Live Blog: USA vs Lithuania

Kevin Durant leads the US into the Finals.

by Matt Lawyue / @mlawyue

For Team USA, standing between them and a slot in the Final’s tomorrow night is undefeated Lithuania. To break down Lietuva, led by Linas Kleiza, they’re a balanced team on offense that has shooters at every position. If they get hot it will be tough for Coach K’s squad, who struggled against Russia’s first quarter three pointers and zone defense. The American’s defensive intensity will have to be on lock all night to disrupt LIT’s half court offense. If Team USA can make this into a full court sprint, they should be able to dispense of the Baltic nation.

ESPN Classic will air this game live at 12 PM EST. ESPN 3 will carry it online.

Is there a site where you can watch this game live?

  • Irfan Posted: Sep.11 at 12:49 pm
Lithuanians are playing very less agressively than against Argentina, it’s too bad. I would really have liked to see how the interior sector of the US Team could handle this of Argentina.

    KD is playin no games!

  • Irfan Posted: Sep.11 at 1:36 pm
Wow… KD is a beast. Without him, this USA team was inferior to this Lithuanian team (itself very inferior to the team that has beaten Argentina).
I think KD has gotten the new team USA points record. At such a young age ! And he seems to be one of the rare polite and clever US players (with Rose, Curry, Chandler, Love).

I’ll repeat it here: USA will take on winner of Turkey-Serbia tomorrow in the Final. I’ll have a final Cover It Live for the game, which starts 2:30 PM EST. See you then, fam.

Congratulations to team usa, im going to be really honest with you, I never thought they would make it this far but I was always rooting for them. KD really has had a helluva performance through this wbc so far and now lets see him do it in the championship game.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.11 at 2:50 pm
im not paying for no ESPN3….

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Sep.11 at 2:58 pm
BRK is right, ESPN3 has terrible coverage and always freeze at the most important moments.

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.11 at 4:00 pm
Is Bryan Crawford here to read this?
Andre Iguodala (USA forward following his defensive effort on Linas Kleiza): “In the NBA they don’t allow hand checking, so you can’t stop guys. Here they let you play a little bit more defense. There’s great ball players all over the world, and you just try to slow them down.”

  • Anton Posted: Sep.11 at 4:40 pm
Odom had a good game, which means his next good international game will be in 2038.

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Sep.11 at 4:45 pm
    Lol@jukai not giving up

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.11 at 4:56 pm
Sorry TSI, I read that and I said “oh this HAS to go on SLAM”

  • JRog Posted: Sep.11 at 5:26 pm
I have Knology as my ISP and espn3 doesn’t cost extra.

  • dma Posted: Sep.11 at 5:46 pm
Linas Kleiza disappeared in this game. I think it was China I saw them play recently, and he just abused whoever was guarding him in the post. Granted, it was China, but still. I still question why Chauncey Billups is on this team. He’s been taking terrible shots.

  • ilyasova Posted: Sep.11 at 5:46 pm
turkey will crash them tomorrow. go turkey!!!
    ccc kerem reyiz ccc

  • Ben Flook Posted: Sep.11 at 7:31 pm
Durant was phenomenal today! And the Turkey Serbia game was classic Tunceri and Teodosic going at it. Finals are going to be great.

  • Michael Posted: Sep.11 at 9:03 pm
the 3 best players in the NBA in order
    1- kobe bryant
    2- KEVIN DURANT!!!!
    3- Lebron james

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.11 at 9:10 pm
@Michael….lets be real okay. KD has been playing great in this international tournament, but that doesn’t mean he’s better than Lebron.

  • bill breedley Posted: Sep.11 at 10:29 pm
KD is better than the sidekick! Purer scorer with pure skills. Bron is N overhyped dunker and an admittedly more athletic specimen. Skill for skill kd trumps the sidekick.

  • tina Posted: Sep.11 at 11:29 pm
thanks Conan, actually found it on espn classic. lucky i had cable :)

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.12 at 1:10 am
Not sure if it was TSI who predicted this two days ago, but Dre Dala really DID defend the hell outta Kleiza. Totally shook his confidence with his rips, deflections and strength. Fantastic team effort by the USA on D, some horrible half court offense though, good thing KD went into MJ ‘i got this mode’. The game of the night, maybe even of the tournament, was SRB vs. TUR. What.a.battle. That crowd, Matt Lawyue is a lucky man to have been in there for that. Ps: seriously, how freaking high can Westbrook jump, incredible hops, and so quick off the ground!

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.12 at 1:15 am
Arslan, Tunceri, Onan and Güler (turkish guards) are gonna have a sweet battle against Rose, Billups, Westbrook and Curry. I’m guessing Iguodala gets the Turkoglu assignment after his great job on Kleiza. Turks are gonna body KD up, hard. And then sit back into their aggressive zone later. Gonna be an epic clash.

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.12 at 2:24 am
Some thoughts on TUR – SRB:
    - as fantastic as Euroleague MVP Teodosic was In the 1st 3 quarters (9 assists till then), controlling game tempo, staying cool under extreme pressure, he was the main reason Turkey got back into the game mid 4th qtr. Tunceri (faaantastic player imo) scored 5 straight on Milos, and Teodosic forced 4 three’s in that quarter that all missed badly (including 2 where he tried to act as if he’d been shot, Reggie Miller style).

  • BossTerry Posted: Sep.12 at 2:25 am
    Sabonis!!

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.12 at 2:28 am
The amount of Ref lobbying by both sides was freaking idiotic. Seemed like every call was discussed at length, ridiculous. The turkish players were especially annoying at this. Onan, Hedo and Güler and Gonlum were talking/beseeching refs all.game.long.

@ Darksaber, definitely an epic game, personally i thought Teodosic was amazing all game, but Tunceri was even better in the fourth, this tournament has had an NCAA feel to it since it got to the knockout rounds. Can’t wait to see Tunceri against USA gaurds later on tonight!

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.12 at 7:06 am
    Great game!

  • Dacre Posted: Sep.12 at 10:40 am
Jukai has been like a dog with a bone with his handchecking activity.
