Kevin takes his talents home.

(Inside a half empty press conference)
Public Relations Director: Hello and welcome to the press conference. Kevin was anticipating a full crowd, so we will wait a few minutes until everyone arrives.
(Two hours later)
Public Relations Director: OK, it looks like no one else is coming so let’s get started. Let me bring out Mr. Kevin Owens.
Reporter 1: Why does he have a guitar?
Public Relations Director: Please hold all questions until after the announcement.
Kevin Owens: Hello everyone… For those of you following along at home… I will be playing this song to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s My Way…
And now, the end is here,
And so I face the final curtain.
My knees, have told me for years,
I’ll miss the cheers that much is certain.
I’ve played, a career that’s full,
I’ve traveled some long European highways.
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Issues with refs? I’ve had a few,
Probably, too many to mention.
I’ve torn a towel or two,
Because of bad calls, to relieve my tension.
I was told each charted course,
Minutes before, I had to fly away.
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I’m sure my agent knew,
That I am a center, and not a two.
But off I went, despite my doubt,
And was driven by and fouled out.
I’ve received the call, and I stood tall,
And did it my way.
I’ve won, I’ve lost, I’ve cried,
I’ve had some falls — my share of bruising.
But now, as tears subside,
I find it all so confusing.
To think I did all that,
And may I say, not for an overly extravagant pay.
It’s fine, I am OK,
I did it my way.
For what of this man? Did he do much?
A few rings, an MVP and such.
Now I move on, into the unknown,
To figure out my life, now that I’m grown.
The records show, I did not blow,
And did it my way.
So there you have it folks. I am retired from professional basketball. It has been an amazing ride, but it is time to join the rest of humanity in the “real world.” I will be continuing to contribute to SLAMonline, telling the story of what happens to professional athletes once they retire. To all my fans (fan), thanks for all your support during my playing career. I will miss you all, and hopefully someday soon you will see me on the sidelines as a coach.
