Post Up: Lakers/Rox Ruckus

And Ron/Fish/Wafer get a little crazy.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

Okay. I’m home. In Nova Scotia. It is 2:13 am and we’ve got half of a fourth quarter to play, five technicals, D. Fish tossed out, Ron Artest tossed out, Von Wafer tossed out (courtesy of Coach Adelman), Kobe’s elbow connecting with Ron’s neck. Technicals for Luis Scola, Lamar Odom, Luke Walton and Kobe Bryant.

This game is insane.

NBA Playoffs is where crazy happens.

My goodness.

I’m beyond making sense right now and yet I cannot imagine sleeping because this game was so damn nuts. Wasn’t planning on writing today, but needed to because we need to discuss. Everything. Anything. All of it.

I missed the C’s and Magic because I was on the plane and we didn’t have the game on the channels I had access to. I’m still not believing this night. Game 3 is going to be psycho and perhaps we could have some players missing?

I hope Ron is good and the media doesn’t go to crazy on him, assuming he’s going to go crazy. He took an elbow to the throat and overreacted a bit. Let’s leave him be.

Fisher threw Scola like he was a ragdoll.

Kobe had 40. 3 more points to pass Larry Bird for playoff scoring.

Brian Cook on the STAPLES Center court in the final seconds of a loss for the Rockets made me feel badly for him.

Everyone is talking about the Nuggets/Mavericks series and how Denver is going to out-tough Dallas. How Kenyon’s foul against Dirk (and the fine), affected Game 1, etc., etc. This series just took over as the most intense one going. Wow. And, now we go into Houston tied.

This thing is over. Tied 1-1. I knew about 20 people at this game and I’m beyond jealous of each and every one of them.

So, who gets suspended for Game 3? Rafer? Kobe? Ron? House? Fish?

And most importantly, will Adelman allow Von Wafer to step foot into the Toyota Center?

Okay, perhaps even more importantly, Boston and LA have each tied things at 1 game apiece.

I love this game.

eboy thats freakin stupid kobe can get in the lane at will if he wanted to. there were plenty of plays where he had the first step on battier n instead of driving he decided to drain a pull-up. the lakers are gonna be okay on offense. defense is what they need to step on. ron artest should NOT be droppin 28 or 30 on a team thats supposed to win the finals

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Best Artest quote ever? From Johnny Ludden’s column on Yahoo!: “‘I remember when I used to play back home in the neighborhood, there was always games like that,’ Artest said afterward, delivering another memorable history lesson of life in the Queensbridge projects. ‘One of my friends was playing … and it was so competitive they broke a piece of leg from a table and they threw it and it went right through his heart and he died, right on the court.’”

    Smart move Russ.

  • http://jakeandamir.com tealish

It will be a travesty if the L suspends Artest after his unjustified ejection last night. Kobe should be suspended, but it’s a tough call. If he’s not, I’m cool with that too. Beats me how he drew a foul on Artest by throwing an elbow to dude’s throat though. And you wonder why Ron showed a little crazy.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

JamesgoesHam, so when you say Kobe can get in the lane at will are you talking about against the Rockets or any team in general….’cause if that was that case he’d have 4 rings instead of being stuck on three.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Was Ron even being discussed as a suspension for the next game?

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Yeah, I can’t imagine why Ron would be suspended.

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

And I thought the comments on SLAM were crazy: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messages/chrono/14907244

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

That Ron quote in unreal. As in didn’t actually happen. I don’t think its possible to throw a piece of wood hard enough to actually puncture the chest cavity. Reagrdless, Ron is real.

    in = is

    Q-BORO So thoro.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

I don’t remember writing that Kobe was protected from “on high.”
I wrote that Kobe gets treated differently because his Kobe.
    Like Lebron gets treated differently.
    Like Wade gets treated differently.
Like Iverson used to get treated differently.
I thought this was an accepted fact about life in the NBA.
Kobe threw an elbow, the refs appeared to have seen it, they let it slide.
    The End.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Russ, is it safe to say that if Ron doesn’t get thrown out no one would be saying today he “lost his mind”…..i still think that’s overreacting, he went up to kobe, said a few words..did Eddie house and Rafer lose their mind too?? did walton and scola ALMOST lose their mind?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

DP did you really mean what you said about Kobe’s elbow? That it didnt’ even touch Ron? Or was that a typo?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Obviously Fish did.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

ciolk, i think they misquoted him, i’ll have to listen to the interview again i dont think it he said that exactly..

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

everyone said bynum was the missing piece, they didnt know he would be the missing piece.

  • Texas

I dislike kobe because he seems(is) like a ashole.
yells at his team mates like they some punks n they just have to take it. have you seen him go to the bench after a bad play n the towel boy gives him his towel he throws the towel at the boy back. Ashole. Selfish punk it seems that now he just wants to win ro stick it to shaq, not for the love of the game. Lakers have no team chemistry, kobe wont allow it, they are scared to make a mistake and get treated like children on national tv.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

ah nevermind, he did say exactly that, he made a stabbing motion though when he was talking so that’s what got me confused, i think he meant they stabbed him not that they threw it like a spear LOL..

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

ron just said a leg off a table, it could have been metal, and very sharp.

  • Texas

wtf happen to ron. He shouldnt make a scene. He’s fukin ron, mann.
Just try to get him back in the next play.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Walton needs to do a better job of avoiding questions, when asked about both incidents, he states he didnt see them, yet was facing the action both times…

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

i’m more interested in why there was a table on around the court, ron seems to play on courts with poles and tables…

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

rv, not everyone plays in squeaky clean “health clubs”

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Thats how it goes in the QB!

  • Texas

    I just read 318 comments.
    It took me 2:50 minutes.
Thanks for making my afternoon at work go by really quick. :)
Kobe = no love for the game but pride

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Tarzan, i hope you don’t mean me…anyway, i was mostly kidding, i can understand a table being around the area, but he played on a court with a random pole sticking out on the middle of the court…that’s pretty crazy regardless of where you come from, most others would have looked for another court, doesnt have to be in a “squeaky clean health club”.

  • truthteller

Diesel! Are you crazy? You probably didn’t watch that game! Kobe got shut down?! Kobe had 32 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals! And he got shut down? Come on now!!!!

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

rv, one of the courts i play at has two poles just out of bounds at midcourt, there used to be a tennis net there, and that siht is dangerous! i once saw someone get racked badly.

  • Kevin

The Kobe/Ron incident boils down to this simple equation:
    Kobe = Safe Negro
    >>>
    Artest = Non-safe Negro

Safe Negro wins all the time. Just the way it is.

  • Diesel

truthteller – he had to take 31 shots to get those 32 points. That’s pretty good D.

  • truthteller

Diesel, who cares how many shots he had to take?

  • Diesel

    Are you serious?

  • Diesel

Google “basketball” and see if there’s a section about fundamentals of basketball and how a team wins a game.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp
  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

WTF are you talking about Kevin?

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

Kobe ain’t really a “Safe Negro” any longer.
You don’t get accused of r(aping a white woman and get to retain your “safe” status.
He just aint as dangerous as Ron Artest.
Martin Luther King wasn’t a “safe negro” but he wasn’t considered as dangerous as Malcolm X.
And no, I’m not saying Kobe and Artest resemble King and Malcolm in anyway, just making a point about degrees of danger.

  • jumpman3224

Love him or hate him this is why Kobe gets the cover so often…330+ comments in less than a day!

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

Wow, first we compared Kobe to Hitler, and now we get the mention of Kobe and MLK and Malcom in the same breath. I know you aren’t comparing. It’s just funny the sh$% that’s being said surrounding this guy that 80% of ya’ll hate.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Actually the Kobe/Hitler comparison came from a commenter misreading a staement madeby myles claiming (incorrectly)that people would root against the Lakers even if they were matched up against a starting five of hitler, Pol Pot, willie Lynch etc…
    I hear you though.

  • frank

YEAH!!!!! the words Nova Scotia were mentioned in a SLAM article…. Is there any other nova scotians on SLAM that I am not aware of?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

update: Adelman says he has talked with Wafer, dealt with it and team has moved on. Wafer will be available Friday night.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

and i’m hearing radio stations are saying Fisher is out for game 3…

  • Diesel

Yeah – Fisher and Alston both got 1 game suspensions.

  • http://www.twitter.com/jamesgoesham JamesgoesHam

Eboy lebron can get in the lane at will and he has no rings. so i dont think that determines championships…sorry

  • jumpman3224

The Rockets are the only team in the L that have two players who can somewhat keep Kobe out of the lane. I don’t see it happening the same way if the Lakers move on. Also Im fine with a player only scoring 6 points in the paint if he is that hot from everywhere else.

As far as people referring to KB24 as a dirty player, some people said the same thing about MJ. Im not saying Kobe is the next or better or anything…i’m just saying.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

wow. Bron just hit a 3 from two steps inside the halfcourt line, then stood there swinging his arms with a ” a’int no thing like a chicken wing on a string” look on his face. I got goosebumps. Cleveland is steamrolling Atlanta.

i dunno fred, fish seems like a pretty strong guy. he basically threw all his body weight at scola. not sure how luis is supposed to counter that. oh and where did fish’s scratch on the head come from?

Andrew Bynum had the same number of points as me last game. Does that mean the Lakers need me to get over the hump?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Jordon was dirty… If he needed to raise the level.
