The Post Up: May Sweeps!

And flagrants are flying as Dallas gets Game 4.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

How is it you return home from a vacation more tired than you were before you left? I’m probably in the air as you read this so I’m writing at the half of this Denver/Dallas game. Currently the Nuggets are up 10 points and are looking good.

Before I go any further, if you haven’t read Tom Friend’s ESPN: Outside the Lines piece on Billups, make sure you click the link and save it for when you get a moment. The photos alone are worth it, but trust me, you want to read this.

Earlier the Cavaliers completed the sweep of the Hawks. That… Sucked. I really thought ATL would at least get a game and I really wanted them to extend the series. We are rooting for Game 7′s here, people. Josh and crew, you failed me.

Flagrants flying in the playoffs this postseason.

I appreciated Charles saying that the refs have been messing it up in the postseason. I can’t imagine how tough it is to referee an NBA game, particularly a playoff game, but man. I don’t even understand what is a flagrant/flag-1/flag-2/non-call anymore.

I just take what I think the call should be and then make it the opposite and usually that’s how it ends up going.

So, all of this talk about the Lakers losing: Yes, I’m a huge Lakers fan, but most importantly above all else, I’m a basketball fan. And a fan of good battles and good games. That horrific showing the other night was not fun, but it didn’t ruin my Sunday.

Just felt like I needed to make that clear.

And, for all of the Toronto NBA fans, no Lakers/Rockets game on tv…. TSN2 strikes again! I’ll be hanging out at work just to catch the game, it looks like.

Predictions for Game 5 in the Orlando/Boston series? And the LA/Houston battle?

Also, Dahntay Jones is emerging as my non-superstar playoff fave. He’s just so good at doing the little intangible things you need to win. All of the Nuggets are, really. They are so much better than I was prepared to admit at the beginning of the postseason. Just so many weapons. If they keep their heads, well, the WCF will be fun.

Now, for the East. Would you rather your team sweep everyone and be rested for the finals or have faced adversity along the way?

It’s fun watching Brooks turn into a superstar of the postseason, isn’t it?

It’s official. I miss watching Chris Paul. Who is the player you miss watching the most now that they’ve been eliminated? I’m sure Wade is a popular choice, for me it’s definitely CP3.

Okay people, I’m shutting my computer so I can watch this game, fall asleep and then wake up tomorrow and make sure I’m not forgetting something important, since I always do that.

Annnnnnd. Dallas forces Game 5. Crazy game between the Nuggets and Mavs and I’m happy Dallas was able to grab a victory. I think that Denver may come out and pummel them in Game 5, but whatever. Kenyon was barking at someone as he walked to the locker room. He’ll still be heated on Wednesday for sure. Dirk was great and Josh was a warrior.

Cuban was hilarious at the end of the game. I’d like a Cuban-cam just like a Stan-cam for SVG. Imagine the laughs these two could bring over the course of a 48-minute game.

Time for me to get some sleep!

I think the Dirk hate will start to quiet down after this year’s playoffs. it’s not 2006 anymore, and i still wonder if he and the mavs will ever recover from 2007. That was like a castration

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

I, for one, am starting to respect him more. Not only is he good, but he’s also playing like he really wants it. and dominating. Still can’t root for dallas though. I’m rooting for melo to finally reach superduperstar status. HE’S THE ONE THAT SHOULD’VE GOTTEN ROOKIE OF THE YEAR IN 04

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

    i’m obviously screaming at nobody

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

don’t underestimate Slamonline’s level of “hate” for Dirk, Hish. It’s mind boggling.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

TSN 2 is not cool. missing Raptors games is one thing but PLAYOFF games!?!?! thats just not fair

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Yes it is fun Holly. Very much so.
Hisham- he’s a second tier star right now, but for him to make that leap into MVP contention, top echelon type player, his defense and leadership (feel free to inform me though) will both have to improve- having Billups around will do that though. That being said, he’s shown much more effort the second half of the season on the defensive end, taking that extra step to cut off penetration, jumping to contest a jumpshot, using his body more on a box out situation etc. So the signs of EFFORT are there. And thats really all you can ask for.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

You know, the Mavs were 0-7 against the Nuggets this year up until last night. They were bound to get one win, right? Dirk gave the fans a good show for their last home game of the year.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

ah, Eboy. Hisham? Exhibit A of the Dirkbasher allstars.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Where am I bashing him, Dark?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

not today per se, E. Calm yourself, but we both know you like sticking it to him.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I want Jukai and his top 15 list. Just for kicks. It’d be interesting.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

If anything Dark, I’ve been complimentary of him for the last few weeks.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/fear/ Fred34

FYI – Cubes just posted an apology to KMart and his mom, inviting them and theirs in his suite for the next game. You can call him lots of things but impassionate is not one of them. Stand up reply from a stand up guy.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Hursty: what top 15 do you want?

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I’m the resident dirk basher actually. But even I don’t have anything to complain about right now.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

that i can confirm sir. I even acknowledged that a few times, Eboy. Ok so lately you haven’t gotten on Dirk’s case, but along with the Mambiatch, the Fakers and refs, the Dallas Überstar gets loads of abuse up in here (up in here… Hehe)

  • http://slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/fear/ Fred34

No one really bashes Dirk, they just use the same stereotypes that Euro players get – soft. And if/when he doesn’t come out swinging, slugging or thugging (al a hoodcats), he gets called the s-word.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

… Denver in 5. I don’t see Dallas wining another game, especially not one in Denver to bring it back to big D.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

ok then: Shia = exhibit A. Ha.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

The one you were talking about on the new cover thread. Your top 15 commenter list.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

people do bash Dirk, and when they cut of his balls in 2007, rightfully so (IMO). after that he’s kind of been a running joke around here. in the meanwhile his testicular cells began regenerating miraculously, and now his balls are back. yes homo (sapien)

  • Dionisio

Dirk is one of my favorite players to watch; especially that he has a beautiful post game also. As for Mark, he was out of line and he knew it. Hard to keep emotions in check when his heart beats for his team.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Have a good one fellas. I’ll read the comments in the morning inc. Jukai’s list if he makes one.
    Peace.

  • Dionisio

Hisham, you painted one helluva picture with all that balls talk. Ha.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Stephen Jackson cut them off and Baron Davis threw them in the meatgrinder. Nellie fed his ground meatballs back to him

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Holly? Players i miss in the playoffs at the moment (apart from Flash, obviously)? Hmm, good question. Gotta say……Mcdyess. That man is the coolness

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

    sorry i’ll stop now

  • http://web.mac.com/roaringred bbaby

I’m still pissed about that ’07 series too, but Mavs fans should have seen that coming. Golden State had our number all year, so anybody who was actually watching was a bit worried.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Can I be the first to say it today? Dirk needs a change of enviroment. Get away from the rah rah of Cuban and settle in to a system that he can play with a solid pass first point guard that can feed him all the time. Not JASONKIDD either. I know he’s the face of the Mavs but he has no chance to ever exceed the team’s efforts of 2006 there, so give him a chance to shine somewhere else.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

“yes homo (sapiens)”. Now that was fun…ny. Nice, Hish.

  • Dionisio

    Haha. Hilarious Hisham.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Eboy speaks wisely. But where would he go? He’s not that difficult a fit in terms of tactics. Walking matchup nightmare, the Dirkster. But an expensive one too.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

What about a team like the Magic for Hedo and Jameer?

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

thanks Dionisio, Dark.. I would like to see Dirk in a……. Warriors uniform! was that out of line?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Yes Holly! I read that Billups article yesterday(no big surprise, I know). It was long but a really great read. I found out a lot of stuff I hadn’t known before and came to realize just how the Pistons became unglued this season. I’m happy for Billups and the Nuggets and i’m officially rooting for them to make the Finals.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

The Bulls for Tyrus and Kirk?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

good fit. That frontcourt would be hard to handle on O. And Orlando’s PF spot isn’t exactly defensive minded right now, so no downgrade there. But Jameer/Skip/Lee aren’t pass first PG’s.

  • Dionisio

If Dallas were to trade Dirk… They might as well go into full rebuilding mode. That would be a sexy team for the Magic fans Eboy. Dallas fans, not too sure if they would appreciate that.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Hish: awww Hell naww. To G-State? Under the tutelage of drunk Nelly? Please lord, no. Not to mention Cubes would rather buy the warriors than hand Nelly his darling.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

    Orlando doesn’t even have a 4 right now. their 4 is a 3

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

TAD will be dead before the end of the day for that statement.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

haha i know i was kidding. That would be a sight to behold, however. I imagine Dirk at the jersey presentation press conference, sitting there with a look on his face like someone just shot his mother

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

I’m with TAD, Eboy. haven’t read the billups piece yet, though

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Which one E?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Oh, I am too, Hisham, but I long ago made a pact with Satan to skirt by on issues like that to keep me breathing.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

yeah, Hish. At the 4, Rasharrrrrd “skinny” Lewis. Funny. Makes one appreciate the DPOY even more.

  • Dionisio

He would be a nice fit in Portland. Trade Dirk for Aldridge, Bayless, Outlaw or Batum, and throw in Joe Prizbilla (spelling?) for salary cap reasons.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

“I’m happy for Billups and the Nuggets and i’m officially rooting for them to make the Finals.” That one, TAD.

I like the Blazers move too….but I don’t think they’d ever trade him to a Western Conference team, if that day ever came.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

The Blazers shouldn’t take dirk for aldridge. That guy is going to be a monster sooner than later. if i’m the blazers, i don’t mess with my current core

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

haha. I KNEW TAD’s statement would stir Eboy up. E is the ultimate team loyalist.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

NO I DIDN’T MAKE JUKAI’S LIST i am now a nobody who will fade into obscurity

  • Dionisio

True. If they do trade Dirk and decide to go young, how much dumber does trading Harris look then?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Not really Dark. I just don’t want to see the #3 commentor in our little world wind up struck down by a bolt of lightning or some sh*t.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

a top 15 list that doesn’t include Tariq is bogus. and I kinda miss Cheryl on there. so your list obviously sucks Jukai

  • Dionisio

Once Aldridge realizes he’s 6’10″, beefs up, and learns a few post moves, he will be a monster. Not to mention stop pulling a young Dirk and settle for 20 ft jump shots.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

F*ck it, let people eat me up for that statement. I honestly don’t think it would cause that much of a stir. My team is out of it and i’m still a loyal fan of Billups. I’ve almost always had Melo’s back and I like Chris Anderson, Nene, and JR Smith. Besides, it is better than the other alternatives.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Tariq and Cheryl lose their spots for lack of attendance, Hisham. But where is NBK & Nikos Bustalousios or whatever the hell his name is?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

oh man, E. You are putting any thought into another J-List by referencing TAD’s placement on it? Irrelevant. Know which list i’d LOVE to see here. Slam’s commenter “blacklist”. The one a few writers alluded to during Kevin Love’s first appearance in the comments section.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Why shouldn’t one be allowed to root for a team that’s still in it, when their own team just got the lebroom treatment?

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

doesn’t exist Darksaber. Although I do like the way you make it sound like the SLAM staff is on some Freemason, secret elite kind of deal

  • Lobo

Wizards trade their draft pick, possibly griffin or Rubio, and maybe nick young or andray blatche and an expiring contract like etan thomas or mike james for Dirk? Dallas gets a rebuilding cornerstone and young talent, and the Wiz get a veteran to win now. Gil, caron, antawn, Dirk and Haywood? Let Flip saunders coach that team and see how many points they will score.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I may have a similiar “lack of attendence” on here in about a week. First vacation, and then a job change. So if i’m MIA, now you know.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Was I the only one that thought the Cavs played like sh*t last night but seemed to make all the big plays at all the right times? That’s the sign of a potential champion. Finding a way to win, even when your team is flat. The Celts had that same formula last year, too.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Hopefully once you return TAD, we’ll be discussing the Conference Finals matchup of Denver and the Rockets.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

There is no way in hell that the Mavs would consider making that trade, Lobo. Best believe the Wiz would have to come up off Caron to even consider trading for someone like Dirk.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I did forget NBK, he lost his spot so I could make the Kevin Love joke. Spanny didn’t make the list so I could make the “WELL HE ALWAYS PLAYED IN THE EUROLEAGUE SO I DON’T KNOW HOW WELL HE’D DO IN THE LEAGUE” joke.
Hursty would probably be top 20…?

  • neaorin

Dirk would thrive as a second banana to somebody like Superman.

  • Lobo

Dirk would thrive as a second banana to anyone

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Superman isn’t even the top option in their offense right now, neaorin. I think if Dirk joins, he will very much be banana no. 1

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

hmm, come to think of it Hish. Slamonline does spell Illuminati when read upside down through a facetted crystal. (oh wait, did i just mention something outta angels&demons? Damn you, unending commercials with your subliminal prodding!) but for real, i think Ryan mentioned such a list once, then declined to go any further.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Dirk kinda looks like a banana, period

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

1 banana, 2 banana. All bananas.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I’m quite sure Cuban would never consider trading away Dirk unless something drastic happened. He is riding the big German’s coattails until he decides he is finished.

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

haha that made me laugh out loud Dark. yeah i know, i saw the comment, but that wasn’t serious (or was it?)

and besides, why should the writers be keeping a blacklist, while it’s the online editor’s intern’s job to ban people from the site?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

How about Dirk to the Pistons for Tayshaun and Bynum?

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

  • http://www.mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

so. that’s. what. scoop’s. been. doing. at. ESPN.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Dirk for Chris Bosh and a (2nd round)pick ? Dirk could fit in the Tdot, Colangelo probably likes him, and the raps could get something for Bosh. And Bosh is a Texas guy (Dallas , I think) and a a young star Cubes could probably resign.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Again E, i’m quite sure the Mavs could get more for him than just that. Dirk, by all means, is still a top 10-15 player in the league. However, he is starting to get old.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Why would the Wizards even want Dirk? They’re already a team of jumpshooters, including their PF, Jamison. That team just needs a defensive center and a backup PG to be a dangerous playoff team again.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

To comment further, Ryan’s “list” was the people that Kevin Love shouldn’t respond to. Which, apparently, was only me.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ciolkstar: That’s a little bit of close-minded thinking. yes, a defensive center or backup PG would be the best for the team, but getting a former MVP like Dirk would definitely help the team.
Although Dirk to Orlando makes the most sense.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Jukai is SO good, he get’s his own list.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

    @Jukai: do I Make top 25???

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

hmm, makes sense, E. Juks does love them lists.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Yes, it could help the Wiz. But help them do what? They still wouldn’t beat the cavs. It’d probably be a good move if they could get Dallas to take on Jamison’s contract and then replace him with a superior if not similar PF in Dirk. But giving up Caron and the #1 would be foolish.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Granger is set to win MIP.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Nice, TAD. I’m a huge Granger fan. Anyone know why they wait so long to announce the MIP? seems like MVP should be last…

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I have no clue. I agree that the MVP award should be the last one announced. There were a lot of good candidates for MIP this season.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    strange timing for MIP.

  • http://slamonline.com Holly MacKenzie

ps. i kinda forgot to mention Dirk’s 44. Sorry Mavs fans.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Ciolkstar: Caron for Dirk? Eh… Now I see what yer getting at. I mean, Dirk’s superior to Caron, but Jamison is a bit of a lesser Dirk himself, it’d be like having identical players.
I was so busy perfecting my list, I guess I didn’t read all the details.

As much as I love Dirk in Dallas, he needs to be somewhere he can win a title. But if they trade him (which is something Cuban will never do) they need to pick up a lot of youth.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Dirk was fantastic last night, and really throughout these playoffs. When he’s hitting that weird turnaround and making every pullup J he can be deadly. I actually think he’d be a tremendous fit on the Bulls, if they could get him for Kirk and Tyrus… but I’m not sure Cubes would bite on that one.

I didn’t realize Dirk was gonna be a FA. But yes, I think Dirk will re-sign with Dallas, if only because they can pay him the most money and because Dirk doesn’t seem like someone who would like to change his scenery.” Tad = Wrong. Dirk already said he will take a lot less money if it helps Dallas bring in free agents.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

BET: Ok, but it still means he wouldn’t consider leaving. And Jukai: No, I haven’t seen that statement. But now that you mention that Dirk is goign to be a FA in ’10, then maybe Cuban would consider trading him instead of losing him for nothing.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Tad: dirk said if the mavs dont bring in quality help for him, he will be on his way, but if they do, he will take a pay cut to help. This means he will leave if they dont bring in other stars and that he will stay if they do. So you = wronger than pedobear (who i didnt need to bring into this, but felt the need to)

  • Myung

I’m still an NBA fan and a SLAM fan so I’ll still drop by the site, but now that the Hawks are out of it, I’ll probably comment less and just read what the rest of you have to say. Go Rockets and Magic (and/or whoever else plays the Lakers and Celtics)!

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Dirk wont be going anywhere via trade. I dont see the face of the Mavs for the past 8 years leaving town, especially when their owner is not affected by the current finacil situation and has a good relationship with him. In 2010, i think the Mavs will land 2-3 lesser star players to surround Dirk and run for a championship. I also think that Lebron will pwn New York’s plans and resign with Cleveland, and Wade/Bosh will end up on da knicks…thats just my predictions though.

Dirk bashing has been justified in some cases, and Dirk praising has been justified in some cases. The only problem is when either camp goes overboard. Dirk obviously has some flaws in his game, he clearly settles for lots of jumpers. But, he’s also an incredible shooter and pretty good rebounder. He’s horrible on defense, and barely passable at passing, but he rarely quits and doesn’t treat his teammates like crap. He’s a great player, just not transcendent.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Allenp: Dirk is actually a very capable passer. I think you’re a perfect example of when Dirk hate goes overboard, dude.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I also see him treat his teammates like crap a lot, so your LOVE FOR DIRK is clearly effecting your judgement, Allenp. Didn’t he call them all out for their lack of effort in public?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

I can appreciate Dirk when he plays like Asexual Dirk, not Flagrent Foul Dirk

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I think Jordan did the same thing, Jukai.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Hi BET or BEAT like Jukai typed you out as.

  • http://lacuevacrosscountry.com Slick Nick Da Ruler

Grange Rover really deserves the MIP. Its impressive to see a good player elevate his game to All-Star levels. GO Lobos

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

TADOne: I don’t think anyone ever accused Jordan, who punched two of his teammates in the face during practice, of being “nice” to his teammates.

  • http://lacuevacrosscountry.com Slick Nick Da Ruler

As Dirk’s athleticism leaves him, Im more impressed with the nuanced post moves and fadeways he improbably hits. This series is his swan song.

  • Myung

Not an excuse, BET. Just a reason, my brother. I’ve pretty much been MIA the past several summers on SLAMonline, only to come back regularly in the fall. I love the NBA, not just the Hawks, and I will watch as much as I can until Cleveland wins a ring in a month, but it’s just not the same when you don’t have a true rooting interest.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

    Jukai
    You are prone to hyperbole.
    And the sky is blue.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

Treating your teammates like crap means pouting when they make mistakes, in my opinion. Saying honestly that they aren’t playing well isn’t as big a deal, although I probably would avoid it if I was in the same position. However, I think you can “rip” your teammates in the right way. Larry Bird is famous for that.
I only remember getting pissed at Dirk one time for how he handled his teammates and that was when he got all in Jason Terry’s face for sagging off Nash in the playoffs that first year after Nash left. I thought that was ridiculous and uncalled for and was a sign of Dirk cracking a little under the pressure. I haven’t seen outbursts like that from him since.
I think Dirk is fragile mentally and physically. I think he isn’t a great athlete, which, when combined with his soft tendencies, can make him more easily neutralized.
But, he’s still very effective and I’ve found myself liking him a little more lately as people have hopped off his nuts and kind of been unfair to him. I’m always a sucker for an underdog.

I’m not on the list because of personal issues.

Allenp: does this mean you’re going to become a Kobe fan soon?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Some of my Dirk hate derives from the fact that his Mavs usually play their best ball against my Spurs. That and Mavs fans are like the Laker fans of Texas, once their team starts winning they are EVERYWHERE, running thier mouths.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

I was leaning towards Kobe until his latest performances. The elbow, the petulance, I just can’t cheer for him.

  • Michaelbchnn

The Lakers lose by 15 tonight. Everyone is acting like Sunday was a fluke. Truth is the Rockets have blitzed the Lakers with that small lineup all season. Even last year with Rafer at point, the Rockets beat the Lakers by 20 without Yao.

  • http://www.23jordan.com/index.htm mj23

Dirk’s defense is pathetic. He’s a one dimensional player as are most of the Euro players.

Umm, Michaelbchnn, no they didn’t. 99-87.

  • Michaelbchnn

I said last year. And that score was bs anyway, the lakers were down by freaking 29 at the end of 3.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

I can’t believe you made an argument based on the final score.
    For shame.

  • http://www.showmeyourwits.com showmeyourwits

@Michaelbchnn Blitzed the Lakers all season? If getting swept and being no closer than 5 pts at home (12 on the road) is blitzing all season, then please Rockets, let the blitzing commence. Sunday wasn’t a fluke in that the Lakers are prone to playing lazily but the fact is that the Lakers are flat out a better team and will win this series. They still have home-court advantage. The question is how far they will get while having games like Sunday’s b/c Denver & Cleveland will be looking to pounce on any mistakes.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Man, that OTL piece on Billups was dope. That’s going in my favorites.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Hi.

  • Michael

    @showmeyourwits

I wathced all 4 games against Houston this season, whenever Yao was off the court the Rockets scored at will against the Lakers. The Rockets don’t need Yao to play great defense. They still keep the Lakers on the perimeter and when the Lakers jumpers bounce long the rockets can get out in transistion and run it down the Lakers throat.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Hi .

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

    Blitz…wow. Funny guy.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Hi .

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    LET’S GO ROCKETS !

  • http://jakeandamir.com tealish

lol @ B long. A mere 12 point victory! As a Laker hater, I’m just glad the Rockets squeaked out the W before 4 quick jumpers by Mamba!
I don’t want to repeat myself, but I honestly don’t know what more Dirk can do. Dude is playing brilliantly but for the most part, it’s just a momentarily positive sidenote in media and fan perception. Any subpar performance, and the hate will return without a doubt.

  • http://jakeandamir.com tealish

Terry needs to step the F up. Barea is outplaying him. That has to stop if the Mavs don’t want this series to.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Man. That OTL piece on Billups is one of the best features I’ve ever read. The photos are great, but the story is just phenomenal.

  • http://www.showmeyourwits.com showmeyourwits

The Lakers won’t stay on the perimeter when no one can guard Pao down low. They’ll just keep feeding him (and Bynum) like they did in the 4th qtr last game and Kobe will handle the rest.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

If the Rockets win tonight, the series is ova… selfish Kobe is lurking, and I’m guessing it’ll only take a slow first quater by the Lakers to bring him out.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

When I read that Billups story, I only thought one thing:
Iverson was doomed from the jump…

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

Also, Chauncey is the real hero in Denver. I don’t care what Cub says about George Karl…
No under the basket out of bounds play?
    WTH

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

Why they gotta take shots at my dog in the article? Iverson spent the whole year griping about playing time? Crazy…

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

in all fairness, he didn’t gripe about playing time the whole year…the shots at AI were unneccesary in that piece. CB’s acomplishments were enough to write about w/o kicking AI while he’s down.

You know, the more I think about Jukai’s top commenter list the more I like it. Obviously BET is the vogue pick for #1 and doesn’t really merit explanation, so the next three slots I will equate to the top players in the NBA. Russ is obviously Lebron at #2 (which is really #1), TAD is Kobe at #3 (really #2) and I’m D-Wade at the #4 (really #3). Jukai’s list is now relevant.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Really? Ranking posters??? Are we in highschool now? What’s next, ranking the poster with the best smile? Or maybe the poster with the cuttest butt…give me a break. Anyone who ranks other posters should be at the bottom of thier own list…

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

^cosign that guy. That is why i didnt rank anybody, even though i am in high school, so according to the logic above, i could do so. But people put me at the top, and their is a reason for that.

    James White?!?!?!

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!!

Ciolk, all 12 Lakers scored, 7 in double figures. What was that about selfish Kobe?

  • http://www.showmeyourwits.com showmeyourwits

Like Barkley said “this is just common sense basketball”. Chuck Hayes is 6’6″ trying to guard the Laker bigs. They pounded it in early then let Kobe and eventually the whole team do the rest. Game 6 should be no different.

Loved the Kobe and Bron puppets too.
