Post Up: Nuggets WCF-Bound

While the Lakers look to end this thing tonight.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

Okay people: The important basketball news is that the Nuggets, the Denver Nuggets and all of their mismatched, troubled, tough and terrifically entertaining players defeated the Dallas Mavericks 124-110. That’s right, Denver is headed to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1985. That’s the year I was born. This is madness. Mayhem. Melo-goodness.

He had 30 last night, Billups had 28.

And they had some happy guys on the way to the locker room after the game. That was fun to see.

Now, for secret time: I skipped the game. Yeah I know, that sounds foolish, but I skipped out on the game to….. see Drake perform. And it was worth every single missed basket. He was great and besides the performance itself, seeing him so happy and proud and just filled with joy to be home, in his hometown performing for his fans, that was just special and had me so damn jacked all night long. I could not wipe the smile off of my face last night.

I love that guy and I cannot wait for his album to come out!

Shoutout to my guy Sweets for the hookup and the perfect night. I’m a happy girl today.

I did see the final 24 seconds of the game, Chauncey looking all content and the guys walking to the locker room. I love happiness.

And tonight, it’s LA and Houston. I’m looking for the Lakers to dig in and get it done tonight. I don’t think it’ll be 40 points, I don’t even think it’ll be 20, but I do think they will close this series out and gear up for those Nuggets.

It’s also Boston/Orlando and I’m hoping for the Magic to come through and force a Game 7. I like Game 7′s but I’m also trying to sort out if/when I’m going to Boston for these ECF’s, so I’d like a little more time. I don’t feel entirely comfortable relying on the Magic to get this done for me, though. Tension on that team between star player and coach doesn’t seem so great going into an elimination game.

Who’ve you got, are we going seven or is it ending tonight?

In case you missed it: ESPN is reporting that Dirk’s ex-girl duped an NFL player… TEN YEARS AGO. It’s time for her to retire that act she’s got going on.

Question for you all: Are you guys watching the NHL playoffs?

And… Because I missed it, Happy Birthday to our favorite teacher/Sam/giants fan, Mr. Rubenstein.

If its LAL vs DEN, I wouldn’t know who to root against. I can do without the Iverson bashing if the Nuggets pull it out, but then again it’s Bean we’re talking about… Oh who am I kidding, GO DENVER

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

i wonder what the % of neutral fans are rooting for Lakers and nuggets.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

So gay used to mean happy but evolved (or deevolved) to mean homosexual and now its taken another turn to mean lame or stupid. I think people need to focus on the intent rather than what they want to hear. Calling a video game gay while a little juvenile doesn’t actually imply homosexuality. Political correctness can kiss my @ss.

  • AlbertBarr

Nuggets have to be the neutral favorite as the “underdogs” right?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I am a neutral fan rooting for Denver. Team basketball + no hype = what i like

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

No such thing as neutral when it comes to the Lakers…

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

unfortunately i think ciolkstar is right. i wonder if it’s coz the Lakers organization or if it’s coz of the fans. i’m guessing it’s both, kinda like the yankees. when did this love/hate thing started for the lakers though? i mean when it was the 80′s showtime, most neutral fans sided with them right? so did this begin with nick van exel? shaq? kobe?

for me personally, i stopped rooting for the lakers after game 1 of 2001 finals, when the 6ers won the game in OT. i’m not even sure why. i feel like that was when anakin turned into darth vader.

  • omg

Man its all good bcuz Drake is that guy right now. Hes takin over.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Drake is gay. ghey. gray. grey. and gaay.

I’m more of a Kobe fan than a Laker fan, which considering how much I hated him before is weird to say. Once I saw him actually struggle with something and have some real adversity in his life all while being DOMINANT I couldn’t help but route for dude. Now that it’s his show I’ll pull for the Lakers, but I understand the hate.

I would love to see Pau Gasol carry Kobe to a championship ring.

    Dear SLAMonline Commenters,
    F*ck you.
    Sincerely,
    The Houston Rockets
PS: See you in LA for Game 7 b*tches

    I hope you’re right, Melvin. Oh yeah….”If you’re scared…”

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Some thoughts on what just happened:
    - When Scola gave Lamar the double spin move in the first quarter… i smiled like a proud father
    - On Landry’s Hammerdunk in the fourth, Camera panned over to KBiatch waiting to sub in, and he gave one of my favorite Kobe-faces ever: the “nooo, Pau you are so beneath me” look.
    - Artest TOTALLY flopped on that technical. His antics are really starting to annoy me. Every game, he tries to provoke the Mambiatch. I hate Kob’s with a passion, but that was no Technical Foul. Get outta here.
    - Hey look, a Darth Stern sighting.
    - In the first quarter, i thought i was listening to STAN Van Gundy. So enthusiastic was the hyperbole spewing out of Jeff’s mouth. Good thing he settled down as the game progressed.
And last of all, how brazen is it to put Scola on the bench late in the 3rd, with the game he was having, then let Carl Landry run havok like that. Adelman’s got skills.

    RAY ALLEN: WAKE UP ALREADY!

  • melvin ely

@eboy: made that comment when rockets were up 10 with about a minute left. Pretty much knew they were dunzo by then.
Feel sorry for holly bout getting the outcome of game 6 wrong, but I’m curious to know what she thinks about these rockets if she really loves happiness that much :) cos really, this is one happy bunch of guys

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

i love how rockets keep proving us wrong.

  • AlbertBarr

    Game 7 will be interesting…

  • AlbertBarr

    Can the Rockets win it?

  • AlbertBarr

    oh…and Holly gets her wish…game 7s…

  • melvin ely

I’ll be the first to admit that Houston would probably have little to no chance of snatching game 7, but damn if these rockets haven’t already won me –and a lot more others– over with their style of play and heart on the court. Which, really, makes it very hard to imagine Holly rooting against them, heheh. Also, at what point this week is my previous comment going to come out of moderation?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Umm, since nobody’s jumping on this, here goes: WAIT TILL BYNUM GETS BACK!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

melvin? my guess is Sunday, 9.15pm.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

the worst part of a game 7 wouldn’t be a loss, but a loss on the road, the rockets deserve a standing ovation from their fans the last time they walk off the court…hopefully if they do lose LA will be classy..maybe..

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

    Lakers are gay.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Darksaber…While i sgree Kobe didnt deserve the T, Artest didn’t really flop, he did get head butted in the mouth by Kobe, they showed him later talking to Kobe and he stuck his tongue out to show Kobe the cut, it didnt look intentional, but i guess the refs thought so. Artest’s reaction, running around, was actually because he got called for the foul first, so he ran away because he disagreed with the call, but he fell back first because he really did get hit..

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Rockets are like the Bulls of the west now – everyone says they have no chance but they keep playing hard. Loved Aaron Brooks’ comment postgame:
Question: “How do you feel everyone writing this team off, and how will you approach game 7?”
Brooks: “We still have no chance(sacrastic)! But we’re gonna play anyway.”
    Aaron Brooks > Allen Iverson

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

RV: i get that, really do. But watch the play again and Ron was wrapping his arms around KB24 starting at around midcourt, away from the ball…. that’s just unnecessary. That foul did not merit a T. Thing i never knew about Playoff ball, 7 T’s and you miss a game. Nba, where learning new facts happen.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

she really asked “Outside of the houston lockeroom not many people had given you a chance..” sorry, just had to correct you so his answer made more sense

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

oh, well then i dont know what happened there, i only saw the head butt part…i think the refs always overeact when Stern is in the House…and maybe it’s time for someone new to step up and get techs…Phil Jackson, this means you..

  • melvin ely

@Darksabre: yeah I thought so. Was this because I typed in “f*ck” and “b*tches” on the same post? Hmm, didn’t know slamonline frowned upon asterisks so harshly :D

  • melvin ely

@ RV: Phil getting T’d up and thrown out of a game would be awesome. And this is only because I’m imagining his post game interview about how competetively they used to coach games in his neighborhood that coaches would occassionally die of chair legs through the heart.

If it’s safe to say that Lebron and company are on a mission this year to annihilate every team they face this year, then the Softshow in La is on a mission to mail in every other game. LA really doesn’t deserve a win against HOU – I’d love to see them humiliated at home (again). But either way they’ll get smoked against Denver so we can all look forward to Melo vs. Bron. Dear Kobe, we just don’t believe in your sorry a_s anymore and we don’t care about you anymore. We once did, but right now that seems like a lifetime ago. Peace.

KOBE! LEBRON! FINALS! 2009! ON ABC! NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
