Post Up: Nuggets WCF-Bound

While the Lakers look to end this thing tonight.

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

Okay people: The important basketball news is that the Nuggets, the Denver Nuggets and all of their mismatched, troubled, tough and terrifically entertaining players defeated the Dallas Mavericks 124-110. That’s right, Denver is headed to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1985. That’s the year I was born. This is madness. Mayhem. Melo-goodness.

He had 30 last night, Billups had 28.

And they had some happy guys on the way to the locker room after the game. That was fun to see.

Now, for secret time: I skipped the game. Yeah I know, that sounds foolish, but I skipped out on the game to….. see Drake perform. And it was worth every single missed basket. He was great and besides the performance itself, seeing him so happy and proud and just filled with joy to be home, in his hometown performing for his fans, that was just special and had me so damn jacked all night long. I could not wipe the smile off of my face last night.

I love that guy and I cannot wait for his album to come out!

Shoutout to my guy Sweets for the hookup and the perfect night. I’m a happy girl today.

I did see the final 24 seconds of the game, Chauncey looking all content and the guys walking to the locker room. I love happiness.

And tonight, it’s LA and Houston. I’m looking for the Lakers to dig in and get it done tonight. I don’t think it’ll be 40 points, I don’t even think it’ll be 20, but I do think they will close this series out and gear up for those Nuggets.

It’s also Boston/Orlando and I’m hoping for the Magic to come through and force a Game 7. I like Game 7′s but I’m also trying to sort out if/when I’m going to Boston for these ECF’s, so I’d like a little more time. I don’t feel entirely comfortable relying on the Magic to get this done for me, though. Tension on that team between star player and coach doesn’t seem so great going into an elimination game.

Who’ve you got, are we going seven or is it ending tonight?

In case you missed it: ESPN is reporting that Dirk’s ex-girl duped an NFL player… TEN YEARS AGO. It’s time for her to retire that act she’s got going on.

Question for you all: Are you guys watching the NHL playoffs?

And… Because I missed it, Happy Birthday to our favorite teacher/Sam/giants fan, Mr. Rubenstein.

cio, your my homey, but you get dumber and dumber by the day. Homer Simpsoning it up isnt always the best idea, commenting wise

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I don’t know, but I’ve been saying sh*t’s been “gay as fu*k” since the early 80′s and I never meant it to be disrespectful to gay’s in general. Maybe it’s an North American thing.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Here, I’ll use it in some examples: “New Kids? That sh*t’s gay as fu*k”. Uhm, what else? Oh yeah, “You wearing fake Jordans? That’s gay as fu*k, bro”. One more? “You didn’t bang that girl from the club. You’re gay as fu*k, bi*ch” I don’t get the angst about it.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Eboy:You’re using the word ‘gay’ as an insult,as if it is somehow a bad thing to be.Obviously,it has evolved to mean ‘lame’,but there’s a reason for that.Even if you’re not actually meaning to insult homosexuals, using the implication of homosexuality as an insult, even if the word has taken on a different meaning,is well…insulting.Would people feel the same if the reactions to those examples were “You’re black as f*ck”,”What an It*lian thing to do”?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

It’s obviously an American thing, Iz. I’ve actually heard extremely similar things to the two examples you cited. Actually, maybe it’s a Jersey thing. Not too sure….but I know that the whole hangup about “gay bashing” became null and void once our entire country started to air gay television shows, awarded the gays their own television network, began to allow acceptance of gay marriage in certain states, popularized them in all forms of media, etc. It’s time to let that whole thing go away.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

And actually, it’s an insult to me when I randomly turn on MTV and check in on the Road Rules/Real World: The Duel TV show and see two dudes toungue kissing. You follow?

  • AlbertBarr

It’s time to let that whole race thing go away…It’s time to let the whole gender thing go away…It’s time to let the whole Jew thing go away…

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

It’s not an American thing at all, actually. The same happens over here, but usually people grow out of it,not always though.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Albert, in every way, it would be nice if EVERYONE was viewed as equal so these type’s of conversations would never have to be broached.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

    Eboy:How is it an insult?

  • AlbertBarr

For me, I am not upset or insulted by the use of the word gay…I just can understand how, to homosexuals, it can be insulting…I guess I try and respect that. And the original comment was about how it wouldn’t be a Slam thread without casual homophobia…which does insult and offend me a little bit. The difference is using slang because it is commonplace or using it cause you really are fearful of homosexuality. Sometimes it just feels like the latter on here. Hard to get someones intent through writing though…

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

i live in the Bay and trust, it’s the exact same way as Albert describbed above at Humboldt. i went to high school in jersey so i know what Eboy was talking about regarding to the usage of gay to mean lame (“that’s mad gay yo” comes to mind). i learned quickly to exclude that out of my vocab when i moved here.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    This convo is gay.

  • AlbertBarr

    albie1kenobi knows…

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

It’s an insult to me as a father, that I would have to make sure that my son doesn’t walk into the room and have him see it happening so I don’t have to explain to a 4 year old “why are those two boys kissing”. I know at some point he’ll know about it, but it doesn’t need to be now. They can do that all day long, with who they want and when they want, but if it affects me and others like me, then it’s wrong. Just like the perceived insult the words I’ve used in my examples would be wrong to others.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

I assume we’ve all seen the comment sections accompanying the John Amaechi stories. That’s the type of stuff I’m talking about, not the gay=lame thing, while bad, isn’t nearly as offensive or small minded.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    ^that comment was como-erotic

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

btw, the past few days there actually had been some very objective and great comments coming from the lakers fan base here, which i think everyone welcomed. but as soon as one or two commenters egged on them it’s all back to the same old ways. c’mon people, you don’t have to be SOOO defensive and have the “me (and kobe)against the world” attitude all the time.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Eboy really doesn’t get it, I guess.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Jukai, go fu*k yourself.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Eboy:How is it more or less offensive than seeing a man and a woman kiss?

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

    Character in the house!!

  • http://lacuevacrosscountry.com Slick Nick Da Ruler

I think the real problem here is Eboy watching Real World/Road Rules

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

This isn’t a biblical issue, Izzo. Using my own home as an example, my son see’s his father and mother living together and the rest of his immediate family has the same structure. Until he’s old enough to UNDERSTAND (something a bunch of you characters need to learn the definition of)that their are different relationships in life, he should be able to comprehend THAT structure first and then progress from there. Again, that’s just my example.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

@Izzo: even though you are right, it’s still harshly frown upon around this corner of the world. people here are trained not to reference any minority group in a negative way. it’s actually really odd that we are so liberal AND closed minded at the same time. it’s still mind boggling really, and i’ve lived here for 10 years. i’m not sure if that makes sense to you, but i know Albert knows what i’m talking about.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Nick, that’s probably accurate.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    *there

  • ciroqobama

    The Duel is ghey

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Oh, and Drake really does suck.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

albie:It’s the same over here, while the country historically has been politcal left wing,it has been hugely socially conservative(divorce has only been legal since ’95 and abortion still isn’t).I think it might be a bit more extreme in the US,though.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Gay = Bad … Women = beautiful … women + gay = fun … women + gay + me = James is a happy man. Men + gay = NO EQUATION (robot voice)!!

  • AlbertBarr

Most Liberals around have the problem of being too principled…they will not participate if it means compromising their beliefs in ANY way, they harangue those who do not agree with them out of self-righteousness (like Eboy is getting attacked right now for not agreeing with Izzo and I 100%) and end up shooting themselves in the foot because A) do you think eboy is more or LESS open to our point of view at this point? and B)you cant make progress by having to be right. Do you want to be principled or do you want to get things done?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

do people really need to have a serious shi+ conversation HERE? I understand the ‘well this talk needs to be talked’ approch, but please do it on your links, not in a room with a bunch of non-serious, non-intelgent opinions (such as James’s 5:02 or my 13:69).

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

@Izzo: “divorce has only been legal since ‘95 and abortion still isn’t.” wow really? abortion i can understand but divorce was illegal before 95? that’s just…wow.
@Albert: that’s probably the most intelligent analysis i’ve heard regarding to the culture/atmosphere we live in. nicely done.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Izzo

Albert:I don’t think I’m attacking Eboy,my questions are so I understand his positions and opinion, since we’ve never discussed it before.I’m definitely not trying to set him up in anyway.I just think it’s pretty sh*tty the way homosexuals are treated the world over.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

The Steve Francis video thread on SLAMTV would be a perfect place for this discussion.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

that’s why we love having you around, BET. thanks.

    @BET lol, 13:69?

Kenyon Martin is reading this thread while calling Mark Cuban a “fa%&ot Motherfu(ker”

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

lets get what everyone wants from arguing (including myself, masta of da flame): “Since some stranger on the internet challenged my morale beliefs, i will adopt theirs instead”……………… now lets talk about the real story here: the rise of Slick Nick Da Ruler as a funny commentor. That guy!!!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

@James: I meant James’s as in a comment james made, thus possesive of James, thus making it James’s. Go to school or live in the momemememement with your boy
