SLAM Fresh 25 – 2011

You’ve been warned…

by Aggrey Sam

I’ve said for a while that this class is special. Now is the chance for them to prove it. It seemed a bit top-heavy for a minute, but more and more prospects are beginning to emerge as elite players. I’ll stop beating a dead horse now, but remember my prophecy. If you do, you’ll look like a genius in a few years.

Rank Name Height Position School Why?
1 Michael Gilchrist 6-8 SF St. Patrick (NJ) Best player in the country.
2 Austin Rivers 6-3 SG/PG Winter Park (FL) Best guard in the country.
3 Quincy Miller 6-9 SF/PF Quality Education (NC) Amazing combination of potential and production.
4 Marquis Teague 6-2 PG/SG Pike (IN) Jeff’s little brother may surpass him one day soon.
5 Rakeem Christmas 6-10 C Academy of the New Church (PA) Nation’s best defender has scary upside.
6 Johnny O’Bryant 6-9 PF East Side (MS) Athletic big man has Amare potential.
7 LeBryan Nash 6-7 SF Lincoln (TX) Too strong, too skilled for his peers.
8 James McAdoo 6-9 PF Norfolk Christian (VA) UNC commit has potential not unlike famous ex-pro uncle Bob.
9 Tony Wroten 6-3 PG/SG Garfield (WA) Talented combo guard and two-sport star recovering from gridiron injuries.
10 Wayne Blackshear 6-5 SF/SG Morgan Park (IL) Louisville commit is athletic wing that simply gets it done.
11 Adonis Thomas 6-6 SF Melrose (TN) Big-time athlete plays both ends of the court.
12 LaQuinton Ross 6-8 SF Murrah (MS) Long wing is talented scorer.
13 Quinn Cook 6-0 PG DeMatha (MD) True point is playmaker with scoring ability.
14 Bradley Beal 6-4 SG Chaminade (MO) Florida commit may be top shooter in class.
15 Michael Gbinije 6-6 SF/SG Benedictine (VA) Smooth wing with solid all-around game.
16 Myck Kabongo 6-0 PG St. Benedict’s (NJ) Texas commit via Canada is a jet, adding savvy.
17 PJ Hairston 6-5 SF/SG Dudley (NC) UNC commit is polished wing scorer.
18 Angelo Chol 6-9 PF/C Hoover (CA) Sudanese product is defensive force with high ceiling.
19 Mikael Hopkins 6-8 PF DeMatha (MD) Post prospect is rapidly improving.
20 DeAndre Daniels 6-8 SF/PF Taft (CA) Texas commit is long, athletic, skilled forward.
21 Dezmine Wells 6-5 SF Word of God (NC) Xavier commit is tough, efficient, productive athlete.
22 Keaton Miles 6-6 SF Lincoln (TX) Slender wing scorer with nice versatility.
23 Nick Johnson 6-3 SG/PG Findlay (NV) Nephew of late Dennis Johnson is skilled shooter.
24 Sam Thompson 6-7 SF Whitney Young (IL) Potential is key for big-time athlete.
25 David Rivers 6-6 SF/SG Hall (AR) Sleeper is efficient scorer from the wing.

wasnt impressed with gilchrist vs findlay on espn, i know he was limpin, but still did not look like best player in country

I like Nick Johnson’s game. He can shoot and rise with the best of them. He looked great on Monday against St. Pats.

I have a feeling that he’ll move slowly up the list as the seasons progresses.

Check out these highlights of 6-5 Class of 2011 Small Forward Ben McClemore from St. Louis. I’ve been asked by a credible scouting service was this kid a top 50 talent.

Kabongo should be top 10 hands down!

  • RJohnson

Chol is the real deal. Proud of you!!!

Gilchrist shouldn’t have played against Findlay. I wouldn’t mind if he sat for rest of season, honestly.

You might wanna check out Jaylen Bond out of Plymouth Whitemarsh in PA

if LeBryan Nash can imitate his name’s games, he’ll be the best player ever. lol

logues: Check him out when he’s healthy. I agree with Ben that he shouldn’t have been playing, but for him to show that type of toughness and heart after an injury was big.
matt/texasfan: Granted, I did this before Myck’s outstanding HoopHall/MLK Day game, but I don’t regret his spot. Waiting to see him on the circuit this summer (without Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph, or the benefit of a loaded St. Ben’s team, although I know for a fact that Grassroots Canada has some new stars) before I elevate him to elite status.
Mike: I lived in Philly for a minute, so I’m well aware of Bond. I saw him briefly this summer and liked his progress, but I’d like to see more consistency. If this was a top 50 list, he’d be in there.

Quincy miller is the truth and is more skilled to me that Michael Gilchrist. Look at how he took over and beat St. Marks
