Copper Foamposite Is Upon Us

A sneaker you might love drops right before Valentine’s Day.

by Chris O’Leary/olearychris

Every once in a while a shoe drops that makes you remember why you love sneakers. It was never in question that the copper Nike Foamposite was one of these shoes (for me, anyway), but that once in a while part has fluctuated as of late.

Foot Locker is confirming that one of the best colorways of the shoes that Penny Hardaway and to a lesser extent Mike Bibby (shoutout to the Wildcats in ’97!) made famous will be up for grabs on Feb. 13, selling at House of Hoops and select Foot Locker spots. They’ll also be available at Footaction, who’s having a midnight release on the 13th. Just to be clear, that midnight release means you’ll need to start lining up on Friday if these shoes make you swoon.

And yeah, it’s okay if shoes make you swoon. It doesn’t make you less of a man or anything to admit that. Reassure yourself of it enough and you’ll believe it. Check out more pics of the copper Foamposite here.

Chris, you say that certain shoes make you remember why you love shoes…I have a question. This isn’t backhanded or anything, I’m not questioning or insulting you, but I’m just wondering why you love shoes? This is an honest question, not an insult.

The shoes very well. I very much want to buy

  • Dfrance

Moose are you American? And that is not to insult you or anything like that but I think its a cultural thing you may not get. Or were you asking because you love sneakers too and wanted to know Chris’ reasons? Anyway sneakers are big business in the states. I don’t think its any different that any other thing someone may like. Like a nice car, or clothes or electronics. People like the designs of sneakers.

  • Dfrance

You know what I take that back Moose. People love sneakers all over the globe. lol.

  • rainman10

HAHA come on guys. Moose never said that he didn’t love shoes. He just wants to know why Chris loves shoes. Moose is American, a sports fan, a SLAMONLINE hall of famer. If you read SLAM you would know who he is. Haha got your back Moose.

@Moose: there’s a lot of reasons. Part of it is that they’re little pieces of history that go along with the game. You can tie great players and moments with the shoes they were wearing when they happened. I think the thing that I like most about shoes right now is that it’s gotten to be this whole other world inside of basketball. People follow what players are wearing game by game through the season and the online community is so comprehensive right now, with blogs and message boards. 10 years ago you had to dig forever to find out info on player exclusives and release dates. Now it’s all there, pretty much the second it happens.

And for what it’s worth, it’s not the end of the world if you’re not from America.

Oh yeah, and this shoe is SO hot. How can it not make you love sneakers?

  • Migs

SICK! Thanks Chris! I love foams, and if the picture is to be believed, it’s a Foamposite One, and not a Foamposite Pro!

I just played in my white foamposites last night for the first time in a while, and although my feet weren’t thanking me for it, these are still in my top 5 shoes. It’s too bad I live in Canada.

    What’s the MSRP on these?

I used to love this shoe. But I don’t think I could sport a copper colour =P

  • tavoris

@niQ-me neither…they remind me of bronzed baby booties. That being said, I’d still cop em

Also super hyped for this one, and as Chris says, it’s one that makes you remember. Really, sneakers in general aren’t always something we love. Some of us are picky, and in the case of the Foams, they’re not a universally loved shoe. Lots of us attach specific moments to shoes (as Chris did his Tai Chis) and the Foams are definitely a must cop for me, not only because I was a huge Penny fan back in the day, but they’re one of the shoes that was worth more than a drop in my proverbial bucket. They’re on my top 10 list for the combination of aesthetic (blew me away at first sight and still does) as well as who endorsed them.

@Chris: I got it, man. I see exactly what you mean. Thanks for the explanation.

@dfrance and everyone else: Guys, I DO like shoes, don’t worry about it. And I AM American, haha.

    @rainman: Much appreciated, man.
