Technically Speaking: T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

It’s back and it’s a definite must-have!

by Drey Wingate / @ProStatus85

What’s shaking young world? First off, I would like to thank everyone who read my first official post with the SLAMonline family. I appreciate all the tweets and positive feedback. I want to give a quick shout out to Ben Osborne and to the entire SLAM staff for allowing me to do this. Also big ups to the homie Skyzoo for his support on the post. Be on the lookout for his new album “The Great Debater” scheduled to drop in June, and follow him on Twitter @TheRealSkyzoo.

Now that I got my award-winning speech out of the way, let’s talk tech! So I’m at the pad watching the NBA Playoffs and I’m seeing a T-Mobile ad every commercial break. The Sidekick 4G seems to be that deal. After reading up on it and testing one out in a local T-Mobile store, this joint could possibly go head-to-head with the new iPhone 4. I’ve only owned one or two Sidekicks in my lifetime. What I liked about them the most was the screen and how they flipped out. Plus it seemed like all the ballers had one, and it made me feel and look important at a young age.

Anyway, this new Sidekick is powered by the famous Android system. Meaning that the apps is crazy and the speed is on the roadrunner tip. So for all of you video streamers, prepare to be very happy with this phone. The Cloud Text application allows users to send text messages from both their phone and their computer. This is very convenient because you can keep the conversation going even if you’re not around your phone. You can create your own groups that allow everyone in that group to view messages and reply to one another at the same time. It kind of reminds me of BBM except you have the convenience of doing it from your Mac or PC as well. The only other app that allows you to do that is Google Voice but you can’t send or receive media messages. (Hopefully someone from Google is reading this).

The Sidekick 4G is also equipped with something for all of you social network junkies. With the social address book you can have all your social media accounts updated at once. This saves time and keeps the phone running smoothly so you don’t have a lot of apps running at the same time. The video chat gets much love because guess what, you don’t need Wi-Fi! You get an instant connection with your people whenever you want. You got a 3 megapixel camera that has five different shoot modes and great video capture. Quality is everything when it comes to catching funny moments and memories.

I had to save the best feature for last. The Media Hub app gives you the freedom of having all of your media in one spot. You can find whatever it is you are looking for and share them with up to five devices. Yeah you heard right, five devices. It don’t get anymore trill than that. You get the best of both worlds with both touchscreen and keyboard navigation. And to add on to the thousands of apps that are available, you get a 2GB SD card for even more space. This gadget seems to be living up to all of the hype and promotion, a definite must have. For even more info on the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, go to sidekick.t-mobile.com.

I’m packing for an evening flight as we speak but I had to let y’all know what was good before I boarded the bird. Stay connected with us on @SLAMonline via Twitter. We got what fans and ballers want and need no matter. Holla Back!!

    T-Mobile is dead.
    Long live T-Mobile?
AT&T bought them out, didn’t they? Or are in the process of doing so?
I think a tech blog on SLAM is actually smart though.
Hoops, kicks, hip-hop and tech stuff all kinda go hand in hand as far as what hoop junkies seem to have in common.

Not that this was a bad write up, but I was expecting Lang to post this.

There are better phones out there than this. I mean come on, a 2gb SD card plus the phones own memory? Even 2 years older phones can do better than that. Now i’m not sure does the phone have a Wi-Fi chip either if it’s not supposedly needed and i think it is always a good feature.
