Quizno’s with Andrew Bynum

Because even Lakers centers have to eat…

by Lang Whitaker

I’m completely swamped with work right now, but I thought you guys might get a kick out of this…

A few weeks ago I went out to L.A. for a few days and wrote about going to a Lakers practice. What I didn’t write about was that I was there to do a feature on Andrew Bynum for the current issue of SLAM (with Melo my man on the front).

After practice, I was all ready to sit down and talk with Andrew, but he asked if I would mind if we went out to his car (a Mercedes S600). Sure, I said. So we went out to his car got in and started driving around. Andrew decided he was hungry, so we ended up at…

Sam’s favorite restaurant…Quizno’s! I took two pictures with my Sidekick, one of Bynum looking like Tracy Morgan and one of Andrew signing an autograph for a guy named Johnny who was making the sandwiches. You Lakers bloggers should have fun with these.

Links will return tomorrow. And for much more from Andrew and our big day out in El Segundo (and at Quizno’s), go out and cop SLAM 105 with Melo on the cover…

quiznos is the truth. Subway is dead to me.
There’s an amazing photo in Lang’s story of Kareem using his telepathic powers to teach Andrew the game. You’ll have to get the issue to see it.

i think i’ve been to that quiznos in el segundo

  • Andrew Posted: Dec.28 at 9:59 pm
    Cabo chicken is that sandwhich.

  • FLUXLAND Posted: Dec.29 at 12:29 am
Glad to see you finally put your Sidekick to use, Lang. In no way does this make up for depriving us of the Knicks cheerleaders in schoolgirl outfit shots. Still waiting on those. And don’t say you don’t get the chances with the Knicks playing quintuple overtimes every other night. Hmm.. do the ladies get paid for overtime?

  • Lang Whitaker Posted: Dec.29 at 1:52 am
He didn’t go for the cabo chicken — had some kind of turkey sandwich.

  • Max Airington Posted: Dec.29 at 2:28 am

How’s about a little lotion for those elbows Andy?

  • Ben Posted: Dec.29 at 10:23 am
It was the Nets cheerleaders that Lang either saw or imagined (been to four Net games and have yet to see these outfits).

Na you gotta f*ck wit the Beef Brisket. And after seeing how Kareem is helping Bynum get better, why aren’t more teams hiring former legends just to teach the game to these young cats??? They hire them for everything else but what they were really good at… PLAYING BASKETBALL!

  • Shiz Posted: Dec.29 at 4:20 pm
Andy did look like a Young Tracy Morgan. Lol. Quizno’s: Home of the new Chitterling Loaf (from Tracy’s “Hustle Man” days on Martin). Its sweet like bear meat.
I wonder if Andy’s ever had to fight a Puerto Rican for some sweatpants money…probably not…

  • Daniel Posted: Dec.29 at 4:21 pm

  • FLUXL:AND Posted: Dec.29 at 5:52 pm
Lang, were they Knicks or Nets cheerleaders?

  • The Real Mongoose Posted: Dec.31 at 4:04 pm
Andrew Bynum is an underacheiver? He is still 19, and was recognized as a project when he got drafted. We are talking about the same guy here right, or did you buy into the “Shaq with Kareems jump hook” comment.

Phil need to start Drew and stop playing around, the lakers were playing better ball at the start of the year without Kobe “the shinobi massacre” Bryant in the lineup. He’s way better than Kwame and Ronny Turiaf. No doubt

Lakers were playing better without Kobe? 2 whole games at the beginning of the season? I see a basketball IQ test isnt necessary to post here.
