Links: Playoffs Diary Day Eight

Wake up, Mr. West!

by Lang Whitaker

And it don’t stop. You know, this might be Day Nine of the Playoffs Diary — not really sure. Feels like 9 or maybe even 10. And we’re just now seeing the light at the end of the first round tunnel.

For the Wiz, that light is wearing a number 23 jersey. After Jay-Z officially got unofficially involved in this ridiculous Soulja Boy/DeShawn Stevenson/LeBron James feud, the Wizards sounded like they were fired up and ready to go. Until LeBron showed up. Again.

In Jack McCallum’s great book about the Suns, Seven Seconds Or Less, there’s a portion that takes place during the Playoffs against the Lakers, and the Suns staff can’t figure out what to do with Kobe Bryant. They’re torn between two options: Either they let Kobe get his and try to stop everyone else, or they focus everything on stopping Kobe and hope everyone else doesn’t beat them. As I recall, they end up sort of splitting the difference, and Kobe ends up splitting them.

For the life of me, with that roster the Cavs trot out night after night, I don’t understand why the Wizards don’t have two men on LeBron at all times. Prison Break West might hit an occasional three, but if you can take LeBron out of the game the Cavs shouldn’t be able to keep it close enough to even come down to a last-second shot.

And I’m sorry to tell you this Wizards fans, but when your team is led in rebounding in all four games by Antawn Jamison, you don’t have a championship team. Maybe you win one round, but that’s the best you can hope for. And it’s not going to improve until something major is changed. Glad to see that Darius Songaila signing worked out so well, though.

In Phoenix, the Suns figured out how to top the Spurs — they watched them miss shots. The Spurs shots a dismal 39 percent from the floor and the Suns got surprising performances from Raja Bell (27 points including 5-7 on threes) and Boris Diaw (20 points, 10 boards and 8 assists). The Suns won a do-or-die Game Four, 105-86. This doesn’t matter because the Suns aren’t going to win this series.

I think the bigger question in Phoenix is, What now? Everyone’s joked about Steve Kerr going back to TNT if the Shaq trade didn’t work out, but realistically, that’s not happening. Kerr was brought in by the owner to improve the team, and Kerr isn’t responsible for the Suns not playing a lick of defense for the last four years. So if/when the Suns lose again in the Playoffs without sniffing a ring, does that mean it’s time for Mike D’Antoni to go?

It’s an interesting conundrum. They’ve been so entertaining to watch and they made basketball in Arizona fun again. But they’re spinning their wheels and no really going anywhere. The thing is, of course, that it was D’Antoni who hatched this plan to make the Suns play the way they’re playing, and who pushed for a roster that (mostly) suits that style of play. So do you toss D’Antoni and start over? I’m guessing the easier answer is to bring in an assistant coach who specializes in defense and try to improve that way, although I think bigger picture, the Suns may be setting before our eyes.

Speaking of teams at the end of their ropes, the Mavs lost Game Four at home and lost their cool, too, as Jason Kidd got tossed in the fourth for flipping the human typo, Jannero Pargo, on a layup attempt. Six Hornets were in double figures, led by David West (24 pts) and Chris Paul, who rebounded from a subpar Game Three with 16 points, 8 assists and 7 boards.

The last and most predictable game of the day was in Philly, where the Pistons climbed out of a 2-1 hole and beat the Sixers, 93-84. We expect nothing less from a Flip Saunders-coached team, right?

Tomorrow night we have Toronto at Orlando, Boston at Atlanta, and then LA at Denver. Orlando and LA have a chance to move to the next round. The Hawks have a chance to prolong what feels like the inevitable. (And yeah, I’m trying to be as negative as possible so I don’t jinx anything.)

And I just got the official schedule from the NBA for Tuesday night — it’s gonna be a doozy (all times listed are Eastern):
Game 5 Philadelphia at Detroit 7:00 PM NBATV
Game 5 Dallas at New Orleans 7:00 PM TNT
Game 5 Utah at Houston 9:30 PM NBATV
Game 5 Phoenix at San Antonio 9:30 PM TNT

And finally, with all the bad blood between the Hawks and Celts following Game Three, I thought it was nice to see how supportive the city of Boston is being toward their new favorite team, the Hawks!

Hey Lang, if you’re looking for a nickname for Josh Howard how about Towelie (as in Towlie from South Park)?

before pargo even picked up the ball, both of kidd’s arms were up in the air already. i dont see how ANY Mavs fans could boo the call, especially Mark Cuban’s boy toy on TV pointing at the big screen. Oh, and Dirk to Portland!

  • Winslowalrob

The Wiz broke my heart. The last minutes of the game fell on bad coaching and Gibby screwing up. The only redeeming feature of the game was… hot cheerleaders? Wiz might not be able to win in 6 anymore…

  • http://firemitchkupchak.com Reggie Evans

    Go HOCKS!

  • RV

this is crazy, all of the matchups that were suppose to be great are crap, and the crappy ones are good…at this rate we’ll have the spurs against philly in the finals and they’ll probably just hand them the trophy after their first two blowout wins..

  • not the only one pissed off

OFF TOPIC BUT……CROSSWORD ANSWERS. You can’t possibly publish that you’ll be putting the answers up on the site and not do it….especially when your making up words (i know u are, cos i’ve been stuck for days)…..basically I TOO WITH OTHERS WILL SWITCH TO “HOOPS” IF WE DONT SEE SOME ANSWERS…..honestly can you do that to us!!!!

  • RV

and i think somewhere the days got mixed up, this should be day 9, ahouldn’t it?

  • http://firemitchkupchak.com Reggie Evans

I think David West rubbed Dirk’s cheek to get some of his shooting mojo.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

About halfway through Sixers/Pistons I was gleefully envisioning a Sixers/Hawks ECF (which I think could be a really fun series). So much for that, I guess.

  • Oprah’s Daughter

Hova’s freestyle sucks, it was a waste of his time and mine. Thanks for nothing Jigga!

  • http://coco-vents.blogspot.com Co Co

I was doing the same thing Russ.

  • peteb80

Josh Howard is shooting a stellar 26 percent for the series. Just wanted to point that out for all those “experts” who say he’s the Mavs best player.

  • http://firemitchkupchak.com Reggie Evans

The Mavs’ best player is Dirk Nowitzki. Which is why they’re down 1-3 in the series.

  • h-wag

Dirk is doing everything he can for the Mavs, but most of the time there comes nothing from the other guys. If they go out early this year it definately isn´t because of Dirk.
You could say that about last year, but not this year.

  • Tuomas

Damn I’m getting sick at the Pistons doing this over and over. If this results in a first round flameout – maybe not anymore but who knows – something has to be done to try and shake the team culture a bit (=adios Flip). There should be no such thing as coasting in the playoffs. Now they’ve brought it 1,5 games out of a possible four, thank god there’s two wins to show for that.

  • Slobodan Chutzpah

The Mavs’ big acquisition delivered a magical 3-point, 3-assist, 4-reb game. That, along with Howard playing like the very limited talent he is, is why the Mavs are down 1-3.

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

I don’t think the Pistons get eliminated in the first round. They’ll probably win the next two games and advance. But if you’re having this much trouble with the SIXERS, can you really consider yourself a true contender? What will they do if/when they go up against the Celtics or Spurs? So Detroit have lost my respect. No way they win a championship. And the only way they get to the finals is if KG, Pierce, Ray and LeBron all spontaneously combust. Then Chauncey and Rip can spend late May/early June in Maui, where they can sip strawberry daquiris and tell each other how great they are.

  • karan

dont blame howard, he just wants the offseason to come quicker so he can light a J again

  • Tuomas

I haven’t quite reached your conclusions yet Tariq. Well, they’re my team after all. However, the remaining games are a true test and should damn well be treated as such. Put up or shut up – listening to Gangstarr, consequently. Oh, and Flip should really be coaching for his life right now to make it happen.

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

Tuomas: The Pistons are good, but they’re not as good as they think they are. Let’s say they play the Celtics. You think they can stroll into that series, nonchalantly drop a game (as if on purpose) at home and then go on to win that series? The thing that gets me is that THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE; I mean, Detroit has been eliminated the last two years because of their arrogance. You’d think they’d learn from those experiences, but you’d be wrong. And you know, I remember after the Cavs beat them last season, Billups seemed arrogant EVEN AFTER THEY LOST. It must be a wonderful world these delusional Pistons live in.

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

And the thing that irritates me the most is that they have the tools to contend. But they’re punks. For all the talk of T-Mac being a loser, at least Mac and the Rockets have been playing their hearts out against a vastly superior team. Which is the exact opposite of how the Pistons play.

  • Tuomas

Well, it sure don’t look good but let’s see how things play out. I don’t think they would take a Celtics series lightly, actually it might be one of the few things that would consistently motivate the whole squad enough. But hey, you gotta get there first…

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

    Tuomas:

Oh, I’m pretty sure they’ll manage to beat the Sixers, but what has become painfully obvious over the past two years is that you can’t “flip” a switch. If you don’t play hard for extended periods, you can’t suddenly turn it on when it matters. This has happened before.

  • Tuomas

I don’t take the determinist route, my sociology professor told me as much. I also don’t think you get a ring plus game sevens in the finals and conference finals by being an incurable punk. But if you can’t flip it, Flip gon’ have to go.

  • WhaHuh

search youtube, the jay-z song is pretty good. It shouldnt have been played in a DC club though

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

    Tuomas:

I’m not taking the determinist route. I’m not saying that BECAUSE the Pistons have played with arrogance before that they will inevitably play with arrogance forever. I’m saying that if you’re playing with arrogance now, in the early playoff rounds, you can’t all of a sudden play with intensity when you come up against a powerhouse. You have to establish a pattern, an attitude in the locker-room. I hate to use a word that’s been over-used way too much recently, but you have to have a “culture” of how to approach every game.

Did you see Webber on TNT? They asked him about his former teammates, and even though he was trying to be diplomatic, he actually said “they couldn’t care less.” That is a punk attitude. 2004 and 2005 was the pre-punk era, and I LOVED those Pistons. I actually own their championship DVD because I loved their team mentality and dedication to defense. But now, they’re playing like it’s too blase for them to actually play, like we should just hand them the chip and get it over with. Get over yourselves, fellas.

That being said, I don’t believe they’re condition is incurable, I just don’t think it’s instantly curable. In order to change this approach, they need to play hard for a long time, not magically decide to play hard when they’re down in a playoff series. In fact, they almost blew it last night because they couldn’t even bring themselves to care about the game in the early stages. It’s very difficult for me to envision a parade in Motown come June under these circumstances.

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

    *their

  • Tuomas

Tariq: Hats off, that was just about the point – on team culture especially – I was trying to make all along. Actually, in 2004 I began to envision big things at the moment they absolutely wiped the floor with Milwaukee in one game. It also was a first round game, which seems all the more fitting at this point. But hey, a vocal Antonio McDyess happened (only took a broken nose), so let’s hope a few other good things happen too…

  • http://www.yahoo.com Michael NZ

Laughed out loud at: ‘the human typo, Jannero Pargo’. Haha. And Reggie Evans is right – 12th post in – that’s the reason. And what’s up with Josh Howards ‘J’?

  • http://www.tasa201.wordpress.com Tariq

    Tuomas:

Remember that play when Tayshaun ran back and blocked Reggie Miller in the conference finals? I try to think what would happen if the current Pistons were in that situation: tayshaun would probably just walk back while re-adjusting his scrotum.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

By the way, “Prison Break West” is a nickname that should stick.

  • sab

RV, a Spurs-Philly final would be awesome. but i think you’re going a bit far in saying the sixers would blow them out in the first two games….

  • Tuomas

I haven’t had the chance to watch every game, but seems to me that it’s on Rip and Chauncey the most. Anyways, just saw game two. Man, bring it every night guys. And apologies to the Dice Man, one of the lone guys providing consistent effort. He was vocal already in that game, unfortunately he shouldn’t have to be.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Watchin the Lakers Enver Gmae 3 rite now..The Czar and Marv do not deserve Reggie Miller…Gasol catches the ball one handed and Miller’s take on it :”Thats some Michael Jordan,Julius Erving stuff right there.CONNIE HAWKINS”..The Czar and Marv “…….”.Somebody,anybody please shut Reggie up..

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

    Tuomas:

I’ve probably watched less games than you have, but I get the exact same impression. Also, Dice is exempt from all my previous punk statements; I have nothing but respect for the guy. I’m sort of on the fence about Sheed, even though I’m a life-long Sheed fanatic. But Chauncey, especially, has been annoying the hell out of me.

  • Tuomas

If the stuff Reggie said during his playing days was even half as dumb as the stuff that gets out of his yap now, I wonder why Spike or someone at the Garden (capital letter in honor of the old Knicks) didn’t try to actually beat his ass. It couldn’t have been Antonio Davis’s wife though, he was still Miller’s teammate at that time. Don’t even know if Davis was married then, but maybe I can live without the info.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Without a doubt,Miller was badass during his playing days.Guy was what 195 lbs soaking wet and he never backed down from nobody and actually believed he could beat MJ at the GOAT’s absolute prime.Much respect. However it is just frigging annoying to hear his manufactured “excitement” and his mindless jabbering on how the Nuggets would be unbelievable if they did this n that.Man,gimme JVG n Mark Jackson anyday

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Kobe’s adjusted really really well to K Mart’s face-guarding btw,the arc’s back on his J and defenders have one less chink to exploit in Kobe’s seemingly-impregnable game..

  • FLUXLAND

Tariq: would it be fair to say that the Pistons have a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED sign in the locker room from that chip year and there is really nothing to play for anymore. Got money, got all star status, got a ring. They really don’t have anything to prove in their minds. And Sheed seems more concerned with working on his trash talking then anything else. I dunno, I think in some sick twisted way, they like digging holes and creating challenges for themselves… otherwise it’s no fun for them.

  • Tuomas

Tariq: Sheed’s only bad showing has been game three, but that was horrendous. But as far as I can tell, his defence has been there all the time. But Chauncey needs to stick with humble clichés or not say anything at all, at least until he backs it up on the court. He’s the team captain, for god’s sakes.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Quick question tariq.Didn’t Chauncey suck last time in the ‘Offs too???

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

    No offence,obviously

  • http://www.heavyasheaven.blogspot.com DP

Philly is going to lose the series because they cannot score in the halfcourt. They are a run and gun team and eventually they will die by that. Iggy and co. will be very good though in the years to come. by the way, wats up everyone.

Whaddup DP?? Even though I’mma Laker diehard,I gotta admit that third quarter of the 3rd game od the Enver series was filled with “questionable calls” favouring the Lakers.

  • http://www.heavyasheaven.blogspot.com DP

you a laker diehard too PP? wow I didn’t know there were so many laker fans around. But I see a nice brooming coming along for the nuggets tonight. AI is the only one doing sh*t and he just isn’t enough.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

PP: Yes, Chauncey has been sucking for some time now in the Playoffs, which makes his arrogance even more inexplicable.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

You guys do realize that horses only have a productive performance limit of somewhere in the 5 year range. Chauncey should be on the cusp of that downturn and headed into the final stretch of uselessness somewhere in mid May.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

And I’ve been really, really impressed with J.R.Smith,notwithstanding the stupid decision to trashtalk to KB..Kid can ball…got a nice crossover, can finish ridiculously well and hits the deep 3 with swag..colour me impressed..

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

To be fair, Billups played well in the playoffs last year until the ECF’s, where the zone trapping by the Cavs frustrated him. But Detroit is not dictated by the play of one person, never have been. Detroit’s play is dictated by balanced scoring, consistent D, and exploiting mismatches. When Detroit is playing their ‘A’ game, they can beat anyone. But for that to happen, everyone on the court needs to play with a consistent energy level and feed off each other, which they did in the 2nd half yesterday. Unfortunately, they need to figure that out earlier and play that way for 4 quarters, because that is not going to work against Boston. The thing is, and this frustrates the hell out of me, they always play well when it is against very good competition, but play down when they feel they are better. At this point, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Pistons lose out to the Sixers, or go on a run and win the title.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

    Eboy:

I don’t agree that Chauncey has started his (natural) decline. He’s only 31. I think it’s more that he doesn’t WANT to play hard, not that he can’t. And I agree, TAD, the Pistons aren’t reliant on Billups. Everyone who has a ring on that team is guilty of slacking. It’s just that Billups is the most glaring example of that collective malaise.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

And does anyone else think the Western Playoofs suffered because of the intense regular season race just to get into the ‘Offs?? I mean we’ve had compelling games, sure (Phx-Sas,1st game comes to mind),but all the series have gone gone according to seeding till now..Unless Dallas and Houston raise their game, the Eastern ‘Offs might just trump the mighty West..

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

And does anyone else find it strange that Ben Wallace is also suffering from the Piston bug. Although in Ben’s case it may be that he’s just past it.

  • Tuomas

Didn’t manage to find the box scores, but to my recollection Chauncey abused Jameer Nelson big time in the first round, played good (especially in the wins) against the Bulls and then struggled/disappeared against the Cavs, pretty much like the rest of the team. But like Tad said, it’s a matter of which Pistons team comes out of this on top. This year the coach’s job should also probably depend on the outcome. Good day Tad, by the way.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

PP: Vincent Thomas talked about the Western playoff thing before the postseason even began. I don’t think it was possible to live up to the promise of that amazing regular season. After the flurry of exciting games to end the season, and then that classic Spurs/Suns opener, it’s been difficult to really get into the first round. But I have a feeling that the second round, with the likely Spurs-Hornets, Jazz-Lakers matchups, could be special. The East will invariably suck, though. At least until the ECFs.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

T, Andre Miller is steady working Chauncey Every game. Regardless of the outcome, Chauncey’s decline is being exploited and it will all come to a head if they meet the Celts and he is neutralized by Rondo. That would never have seemed possible just a season or two ago (more than likely probably not in the beginning of this season either) but Rondo has flourished, Chauncey has sputtered. Sorry TAD, but your boy is pretty average right about now.

  • Tuomas

Whoops, TAD seems to be the norm.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

    Tuomas:

It could be that I’m affected by the Piston players’ off-court demeanors. Because I think we all agree that the four ring-bearing Piston starters are the ones who should get the blame. Out of those four, Sheed gives you unhinged displays of emotion, while Rip and Tay stay more or less in the background. It’s Chauncey who most conveys that aura of arrogance and superiority in his off-court demeanor (at least to me). So it may not even be his performances, which, admittedly, haven’t been terrible. I hope I’m making sense.

  • Captain America

That’s not J.R. Smith, that’s his tats ballin

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

Eboy: Webber pointed out something last night: this is a rare series where the other point guard can actually post up Chauncey. I have no problem with someone like C-Bills struggling with a particular basketball aspect; everyone deals with that at some point. I just don’t like the whole snooty attitude. Especially since it’s reflected in their play.

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

hello…I think this series is really exposing the pistons main problem, which is overconfidence and sense of entitlement. Which is what I’ve been saying for months. They act like the sixers don’t deserve to hang with them.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

    Shia: Yup.

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

Everytime I show up , everyone shuts up.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Shia, what’s up! I agree with you guys that the sense of entitlement is problematic, and that definitley comes from their lack of respect for Flip, which C-Webb also alluded to during the halftime show, saying that they wouldn’t pay much attention what Flip had to say while they were stewing over their crappy first half performance. It worked yesterday, but can it work again, against an even better team than the Sixers? Doubtful.

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

What up Eboy.I really feel like the pistons are the mid nineties Knicks reincarnated ..I’ve said it before , I got so tired of hearing Ewing talk about how “the better team” lost everytime The Bulls kicked our asses. It’s worse for the pistons cause they’ve actually won a ring so their idea that they’re the best team is even more inflated. The pistons to me are nothing but paper champions. Like newspaper champions because according to them they’re the best team in the league every year and nobody knows. Well nobody knows because all they do is talk about it and not show it.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

My internet connection is crapping out at work today, my bad. But yeah Shia, they have been playing like that early in these playoffs, and i’m not even going to make any excuses for them. As funny as it may be to say, Ben Wallace leaving did take something from the Pistons, and it was his will. His current play being ignored, Wallace always toook the teams temperature and made sure no one slacked off, or he would let them know about it. He may have got into conflict with the coach, but he had the respect and ear of everyone in that lockerroom. If any of the players slacked off, he had no problem calling them out. It is not talent with the Pistons, it is playing with consistent energy and executing. If they play like that should, they will win way more often then lose.

And I mean I don’t want to sound stupid but for all the talk of “no one has ever come from a 3-0 deficit”,while true, doesn’t really apply here as we’ve never seen a conference so stacked before.Nor have we seen a first round series with two teams this good facing off.

  • namik

Trade Dirk and build around Howard. I think I read that brilliant statement here, and a few people actually supported it. I wonder what those people would say now? And can Mark Cuban fire himself for the stupidest trade of the year? Because he should.

  • namik

Maybe, but Josh Howard will never be even close to the player that Dirk is. Plus for all the “choker” talk about Dirk, how does 420 get a pass?

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Dirk needs a change of scenary. Will never happen though, since Cuban’s man crush runs deep. If Dirk could be on a squad with a strong lead dog (not JKidd)he just might make all his detractors eat their words by not having to be the perceived “top dog”.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

BET u make me wanna say stuff like Mek=32 yr old Ben Wallace+smidgen of offense..

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

Howard gets a pass because it’s not his team. Dirk is supposed to lead them. I’ve said it at least 5 times here, Dirk needs a real deal superstar to lead the team. He can lead the team in points rebounds assists blocks steals everything but he will never impose his will on a team. They need someone to do that.

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

And truthfully is he getting a pass? People are talking about how his performance has been dismal all over the place.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Yeah Shia, but with Amare getting his 32 ppg,Suns didn’t even stand a chance in the series against the Spurs coupla yrs back.Basically they need someone to shut Parker down consistently,to stand a chance and Diaw filled that role admirably well last game but to expect that kind of D three times in a row is a bit much, doncha think???

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

PP you say things like that, i say things like this: OKAFOR is not playing for the Bobcats in 08-09

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

And I say,Larry Brown is gonna fu{k pro basketball for good in NC,if he inherits a team without a defensive pivotman…

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

I think it will be toughest thing they ever have to do PP. Like I said all I’m saying is that it can be done. They don’t need a superstar effort from those two guys every game they just need a regular season performance from all their players.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

PP we will get one before summer’s end. Just not Okafor

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Fair enough,Shia..Mr.Pringles is gone if they lose first round though..

  • namik

I think Dirk’s done all he can to deserve Cuban’s “man crush” on him this year. It’s just that if a player doesn’t play like Kobe, LeBron, Jordan or CP(in the first 2 games) or “impose his will on the game” like them, then they’re chokers. That makes no sense. That’s why those players are all time players, who might end up being the top 10 players of all time. Sure, Dirk isn’t that, but who is? If you put Harris back on this team, with Dirk playing the way he is, there is no way they would be down 3-1. Jason Kidd has played like doo-doo, so has Howard,Terry has an inflated sense of self and takes ill-advised jumpers all the time and bench hasn’t been spectacular. Plus David west just sh*tted on everyone who said “CP3 MADE West an All-Star” and Paul himself, and its not hard to see why they aren’t winning.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

The Canadian Superhero needs to step up and prove that he truly deserved the back to back MVPS (which we all know he didn’t). If he can, they can steal the next game in SA, but it’s going to be a hard road. If they can get to game 6, though, it’s all up for grabs then, but it’s doubtful.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

    “Apr.28 at 10:19 am
    Bryan says:
And I mean I don’t want to sound stupid but for all the talk of “no one has ever come from a 3-0 deficit”,while true, doesn’t really apply here as we’ve never seen a conference so stacked before.Nor have we seen a first round series with two teams this good facing off. ”

Shia, I am rooting for the Suns but i dont see San Antonio losing 4 straight games without Duncan and Parker down

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

Don’t get me started on his deserving the mvps.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

Nash deserved them but Kobe and Allen Iverson deserved them more (at the time)

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

i have a funny feeling the Spurs are gonna end it in 6 with a buzzer beater by Finley..jus rip the hope outta the entire Suns squad…

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

He deserved it over Dirk last year too.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

Shia, he should have won it over Dirk, BUT he should not have won it the year Kobe dropped 81 or the year AI led the league in scoring and carried his team single handley to the playoffs. Nash should be a 1x, Current regining MVP.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

Shaq deserved it the year before IMO..

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

IMO? are we still allowing that?

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

    I think he deserved both.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

why cant the Suns just win everything?

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

But you dont think that others deserved it more? true fanness right their, Shia.

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

His first win , he turned an entire franchise around.(what’s really funny is that people make this arguement for Jason Kidd but not Steve Nash..When Nash is twice the offensive talent Kidd is.)The second year they lose a ridiculous talent in Amare, Joe Johnson and A pre-bitch Quentin Richardson and still win their division. For all the talk about how superstars don’t make their teamates better this guy is the epitome of unselfish uplifting team basketball.

  • henry

hey slam nice call on thad young. kid is impressive with his energy.. seems to help power the sixers with key boards and jump shots. looks bright for him

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

yeah but year 1 Allen Iverson made a team filled with bull sh!tters get the 8th seed in the east and played with every injury known to man and 3 known to ant, then year 2 KOBE BRYANT happened (81 points v. Toronto, 62 Points, 3 quarters v. Dallas)

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

And I’ve seen Nash in person a few times and while his defense isn’t all league caliber, I’ve seen worse defenders. The really great thing about that: go check older issues of slam where they do a story on him and say his defensive ability is what made the suns draft him to begin with. He can’t stop Deron Williams or Chris Paul or Tony Parker…number 1: tell me who can. Number 2 I’ve seen Nash make KEY defensive stops when it counted..Whether it be a charge or a steal. Give the guy a break. I understand that when a guy does well , he gets the backlash but don’t downgrade the guy who in this “off year” he’s averaging 17 points and 11 assists a game.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJGghOuFlQ People’s Princess

    Jus a coupla things Shia:
    1) Nash has aged better offensively, but when Nash won the MVP,Kidd was comparable (at the very least )offensively to Nash.
2)Kidd was and is better on the boards and defensively.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

if Iverson that year had 1/4 the talent Nash had that year, 76ers would have won a ring. All Iverson had was an injured Chris Webber and a un-experience Sam Dalembert for help and they got messed up by Detriot. If Iverson had just one out of Joe Johnson, Q-Rich, Stodmire, Barbosa, Marion, or Bell he would have had give Detroit some hard times.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/betcats BETCATS

alright Shia i will debate this matter some other time i got class to go to

  • http://myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

PP I respectfully disagree…While MAYBE just as good a passer…he was never in his life the caliber of scorer Nash is or was. BET, the west was pretty stacked back then too and everyone here knows my favorite player of all time is Allen Iverson but I don’t think he deserved it over Nash ..Webber was still putting up 20-10 and The 8th seed in the east or the best record in the league which means more?

    Ok off to work.

Being from Cleveburg, you gotta love having a contender, but a few things…What happened to “not-so-big” Ben Wallace? He looks like he lost a size or two. Maybe it’s just that Lebron is huge, but they seem like they are the same size…Note to Mike Brown: your best five is Delonte at the 1, Boobie at the 2, Lebron at the 3, Ben at the 4, and Z at the 5…Start Boobie over Walter. Oh and Devin, you’re no Lebron…get your own identity…Question for Sinbad: What the hell is Gilbert doing trying to take over the game in the final moments. His circus shot was lucky at best for a guy who seems to have lost confidence in his shot…Caron should have had the ball down the stretch, and drawn Lebron’s sixth. Go Sixers…

I wouldn’t consider nash a scorer in the least bit.

  • RV

    @sab, you’re kidding right?

  • RV

and when Tmac cried about being tired, i had a problem with him admitting it because he’s helping the jazz, and sure enough the Jazz players like it : “I like it. Yeah, yeah. I like it,” Kirilenko said. “We are really paying attention to him. I think we are doing a great defensive job, forcing him to play physical. We know he does not like that. Foul him sometimes.

  • RV

“I think what we have seen in this series is he is set or stuck in this kind of a game and it’s not going to be easy for him to do anything with the ball.”"These are the playoffs, man,” Williams said. “You’ve got to step it up. I’m definitely glad T-Mac has said he had no legs, because that’s our game plan — try to wear him out. All the guys — Ronnie Brewer, Matt Harpring, AK — they all did a good job on him. He shot 9-for-25 and we’ve got to be happy with that.”

  • http://www.respectkobe.com DP

    who is sab?

  • RV

    deron:
“I’m happy he only got one shot (in the fourth quarter),” said the Jazz’s Deron Williams. “I am surprised. I thought he’d be a little more aggressive. I know he talked about being more aggressive to (the media).” Good job Tmac, way to give them confidence. Oh yeah, and AK also said Tmac disappearing in the 4th has become a “tradition”.

  • RV

i dont know, he replied to me early in thread

  • http://www.respectkobe.com DP

dang, how can AK talk bout anyone when he was one shout from Coach Sloan away from killing himself? crazy sh*t, RVizzle.

  • Tommy Patron

@Bryan: The Suns won BECAUSE Amare had his worst game. They spoon feed him like he’s the greatest thing yet, neglecting everyone else, including Nash.
