Links: The Dirty Thirty

“What? The new Dirty Thirty is posted? I’ma log on right now!”

by Lang Whitaker

OK, so we’re done feating for a few more weeks, and there’s a ton of basketball between now and the New Year’s. Road trips, homestands, injuries…we’re in the thick of it all. Here, then, is the latest Dirty Thirty. As for Mr. Ping Ping, coming off his triumphant appearance last week on Regis and Kelly, check out the comment by the L-Wolves.

Try to keep it clean…

#23 for us? The Jordan symbolism continues…

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 3:49 pm
El Oh El at TMAC being out for the next 3 weeks.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Dec.2 at 3:49 pm
The Spurs are a Top 10 team again, in my opinion. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but, Go Spurs Go!

  • Ken Posted: Dec.2 at 3:49 pm
At least my zards aren’t last…yet…

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 3:51 pm
and the old ‘Nocioni’s pull my arm trick’ is the 2nd best excuse to ‘the prostitute ate my homework’ when i forget to do something

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 3:52 pm
Ken, if the “zards” go back to being the Bullets i will legitimatly root for them.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Dec.2 at 3:54 pm
The Celtics are the team to beat. They’re the No. 1 right now.

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Dec.2 at 3:55 pm
I was wondering when we were going to see Mr. Ping Ping again.

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: Dec.2 at 3:56 pm
I just clicked on the knicks link and listened to one helluva scam. A 9 year old boy with a dating advice book? Really? How stupid do these publishing companies think we are? That being said, his advice about always combing your hair is dead on.

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: Dec.2 at 3:57 pm
Also, the Sixers are too high

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 3:58 pm
In my eyes LA is the 2nd best team in the NBA right now, right behind my Cats. But i got flawed vision, so maybe they could be #1 and maybe Madonna back in the day could have been hot? Correct me if im wrong, but did i not say that once Gasol and Bynum steped on the court at the same time together, the Lakers would be unstopable? Yeah, i said that, so i guess it just adds fact to the fire of BETstradamus. B!tches

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 4:01 pm
Deelishis, a 9-year old with dating advice, and Ping Ping. Classic.

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Dec.2 at 4:05 pm
Can we get a video of Lang watching Pingping videos? I want to see his reaction.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Dec.2 at 4:09 pm
Can we just cancel the rest of the season and have the Cavs and Celtics play a best of 35 ECF with the winner to face the Lakers?

  • Cheryl Posted: Dec.2 at 4:10 pm
Girlfriend’s got some cellulite. But I guess we can’t all be perfect. My Spurs and Heat are inching up, ’bout like AI’s girl’s hem.

  • Diesel Posted: Dec.2 at 4:10 pm
Lang you accidentally typed the number 14 next to the Net’s. I’m guessing that’s a type-o

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Dec.2 at 4:17 pm
Alec Greven is gonna be the first 9-year-old boy with herpes. Bet.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.2 at 4:19 pm
TMac out 3 weeks. The Rockets didn’t take long to crumble due to injury did they… And who’s that shaking the dirt off of their prematurely buried asses? well that would be Timmah, Manu and Tony ready to bust some ass.

  • what Posted: Dec.2 at 4:19 pm
I wanna see a celebrity sports blog boxing match between Mr. Ping Ping and Baby Mangino from Deadspin.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 4:20 pm
    Ryan wins.

  • what Posted: Dec.2 at 4:24 pm
I agree with Diesel, the Nets are way too low with Devin Harris and Brook Lopez ballin the way they are.

  • Co Co Posted: Dec.2 at 4:27 pm
Yay Hawks are top 10. ;)

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 4:41 pm
@Ryan…:the Spurs will always be top-5 in the world(and top-3 NBA) as long as all of their big three is healthy and under 35…

  • Co Co Posted: Dec.2 at 4:46 pm
So then they have like half a year left? Isn’t Timmy like 34?

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 4:53 pm
@CoCo….:they have this season and maybe next…(Duncan is 33)

  • Co Co Posted: Dec.2 at 4:56 pm
    oh okay.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Dec.2 at 4:57 pm
Tim Duncan can still be effective at 40. It was ugly, but the Spurs are right back in the conversation because of him.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 5:01 pm
it is one thing to be effective and another to be near the top of the world…and Ginobili is the Spurs best player for the last 5 years(and second best in the world by the way..)

  • fds Posted: Dec.2 at 5:12 pm
i thought AI was married and had children?

  • AD25 Posted: Dec.2 at 5:19 pm
I think if the Milwaukee Bucks suddenly dropped out of the league tomorrow nobody would notice.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Dec.2 at 5:22 pm
GINOBILI!!!! is back. i guarantee the spurs will be either 3 or 4 seed at the end of the season. they got rid of brent barry because when fisher jumped, finley would have jumped right into him, then hit all 3 free throws for the game… DEREK FISHER HAS DONE MORE IN TWO PLAYS TO STOP THE SPURS FROM GETTING A TITLE THAN ANY TEAM.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Dec.2 at 5:22 pm
i cant wait for josh smith to play

  • I am the walrus Posted: Dec.2 at 5:24 pm
Maybe Tim Duncan will be the next Kevin Willis and stay in the NBA for 21 seasons.

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Dec.2 at 5:27 pm
i keep hoping bucks and betcats would turn around the last few years. they both still look dead in the water (if not dead-er).
also, the link in the OKC spot (#30 if you just skipped it) is brilliant. the blog is titled “bend it like bennett” and it is hilarious. i’m still boycotting everything OKC related, but this fine blog will be an exception.

  • Anton Posted: Dec.2 at 5:28 pm
DWade got 37 points and 13 assists last night.
    MVP MVP MVP!!!

  • Jukai Posted: Dec.2 at 5:34 pm
Theo, you’re truly an inspiring story. To be able to post with half a brain is just astounding.

  • Jukai Posted: Dec.2 at 5:35 pm
I’m really not drinking the Spurs kool aid just yet. A team that gets wrecked by an injury ridden Houston team WHILE playing Parker/Duncan/Ginobli isn’t a team I’d be betting any money on.

  • From out of Nowhere Posted: Dec.2 at 6:16 pm
Portland should have been in the top 5. Or at least ahead of the Rockets.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 6:17 pm
@Jukai….:i was waiting something more from you…i have figured out by now that you ain’t over 110 so there is definitely a low ceiling there but this “carrot comment” of yours some months ago was truly great!! Anyway, for a (not so) strange reason you remind me one of my employes that always seem to carry out my orders without really understanding what’s the point in doing so….

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.2 at 6:33 pm
The Spurs are still even more “injury wrecked” than the Rockets. Tony and Manu might have played in that game but neither guy is healthy right now. Besides Tracy, who are the Rockets missing? Shane Battier? I know he closes out on shooters well but he’s no Tony/Manu… The Rockets will have to get extremely lucky to have homecourt in the first round. The “Ron Artest Experiment” is looking like a bust already.

  • Joel O's Posted: Dec.2 at 6:35 pm
I don’t know if this was his original purpose, or if anyone of you has already noticed it (likely), but it’s pretty amazing how Lang has taken Sam’s old Dirty 30 weekly rankings… and SOMEHOW injected the wacky craziness that are the links into the rankings’ comments – and somehow makes it all work cohesively.

  • Joel O's Posted: Dec.2 at 6:38 pm
Oh and I finally got my hands on the latest issue! Manna to the stressed exam-crammer. Both covers were nice – and I prefer CP4 as a player – but not picking up the Deron Williams one, given the historical significance of it, would’ve somehow felt like a tremendous waste.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Dec.2 at 7:07 pm
I’m just glad the lakers and the thunder are both consitent ass teams. Everybody else is just so shaky you don’t know what to expect…

  • davidR Posted: Dec.2 at 7:11 pm
aw man, i was hoping to catch the cover featuring jason bourne (matt harpring)

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Dec.2 at 7:18 pm
    Ping Ping makes me happy.

  • Moose Posted: Dec.2 at 7:42 pm
I just wanted to say, the latest SLAM ish was great, as always. And with my guys high on the list, i can’t complain at all.

  • Moose Posted: Dec.2 at 7:43 pm
And DP, I think you can label my guys as consistent, don’t you think?

  • Pieman Posted: Dec.2 at 7:46 pm
The top 4 are the 4 best teams this year. Including Denver. Think. the Nuggets beat the Celts at Boston, and they lost to the Lakers at Staples and the Cavs at Cleveland, but I think both of those will change now that Chauncey is settled in, and when they play at Denver. I can see a Melo V LeBron finals.

  • Jukai Posted: Dec.2 at 8:25 pm
Theo: Great, incoherent response. Nothing from the best from you.
ciolkstar: Houston was without T-Mac, who is ARGUABLY their star player (what Manu is to the Spurs) but more than that, both Artest and to a far greater extent, Yao, were recovering from twisting their ankles. Oh and Barry didn’t play.

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 8:55 pm
    Hoot HOOT!

  • what Posted: Dec.2 at 9:11 pm
Jukai: Half a brain? You’re giving him too much credit.

  • Dma Posted: Dec.2 at 10:08 pm
even nba2k9 knows how injury prone kevin martin is. i traded for him and he proceeds to get injured for good chunks of the season and playoffs.

  • Jacob Posted: Dec.2 at 11:50 pm
I fully agree about the ESPN comment, they are talkin about the Lebron thing too damn much

  • jrp14 Posted: Dec.3 at 12:35 am
As a blazer fan I find it kind of funy that the magic and the rockets are above us when we have beat both of them, and the Rockets dont even have a better record. Also, take in the fact that we have played 13 of our 19 games on the road, and we are now 13-6.

  • Jack Posted: Dec.3 at 2:04 am
Only beef I have: jrp is right, Blazers should be higher, way higher. And I’m a Nuggets fan. Hahaha oh and whats this? The PACERS beating the “94-95″ Lakers? And Chris Bosh and his Raps got SLAUGHTERED tonight. Two GREAT reasons to gloat =] =] =]. Looks like “killer” Kobe ain’t clutch.

  • Jack Posted: Dec.3 at 2:05 am
Oh correction: the 95-96 bulls. My bad.

  • neaorin Posted: Dec.3 at 3:34 am
The Blazers are legit, they have everything a contender should have, go-to guys, inside scoring and rebounding, three point shooters, good defense, good coach, depth… The only thing they lack is playoff experience. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform in the playoffs this season.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.3 at 3:37 am
@Jukai….:i maybe overestimated you at 110 and that’s why i wrote in a way you could not comprehend. I don’t see a pay raise in your near future…(Merry Christmas!!!)
@what…..:what? (this one always make me smile!!)

  • Gaber Posted: Dec.3 at 5:55 am
@Theo. I would pick Dimitris over Theo;)

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.3 at 6:12 am
@Gaber….:everybody (even fans of Olympiakos) would pick him over Theo now….by the way:Dimitris Diamantidis top-30 in the world for the past 4 years E-A-S-I-L-Y (just ask Novitski).

  • Gaber Posted: Dec.3 at 6:29 am
at least once we agree. now i am satisfied:)
top-30 could be smodiš ( ask Nowitzki;)

  • sefos Posted: Dec.3 at 6:58 am
ping ping with a cigarette is the greatest thing i have ever seen. and i dont even like cigarettes. and neither smodis nor diamantidis is top 30, world. get real. top 100, i could see. but no way top 30.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.3 at 7:19 am
@Gaber&Sefos…:Diamantidis has been twice Euroleague champion, once Euroleague MVP, once European champion, once European defensive player of the year, once finalist at the World Championship, once European player of the year(over Novitski)and i won’t take into consideration the fact that he takes every year the championship in Greece(this is meaningless having in mind the competition) or that he humiliated CP3 in the worlds. I mean, i love Smodic (top-10 player in Europe now)but he is not at Diamantidis level….

  • ClydeSays Posted: Dec.3 at 10:00 am
Lang, What do the C’s have to do to get the #1 spot? Go 30-2? Most wins, best FG% defense, and uh, most techs in the League!

  • Lang Whitaker Posted: Dec.3 at 11:56 am
I went to the Blazers game last night and feel completely comfortable ranking them where they are.

  • Jukai Posted: Dec.3 at 3:13 pm
Theo: I wouldn’t get a christmas bonus in the super market you work at? That’s a pity.

  • cj Posted: Dec.3 at 3:41 pm
I was checking out that Iverson story…DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
she got that big ole booty

  • Edu Posted: Dec.3 at 7:15 pm
    Oden over Rose? Serious?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.3 at 11:26 pm
I laugh whenever a Euroleague fan thinks that Euroleague players are better than NBA players. Then I stop laughing and try to forget about it. Then I read more comments and laugh again.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.3 at 11:27 pm
    I just laughed. Again.

  • what Posted: Dec.4 at 4:17 pm
Co-sign Teddy. Euroleague is for the European players who suck too bad to make it to the NBA.

  • jrp14 Posted: Dec.4 at 5:09 pm
Anyone who has questions about how the Blazers will do in the playoffs should just watch the leader of the team, Roy, for like two or three games. He is never shook, he’s gotta be top 5 in the clutch right now

  • jrp14 Posted: Dec.4 at 5:10 pm
I honestly think Oden will win R.O.Y. I havent been paying attention to all the rookies, but Im guessing he is leading in double doubles, am I wrong?
