Links: Day Six Playoff Thoughts

And the Thunder roll…

by Lang Whitaker

I was actually going to not post anything here tonight because I have a couple of things I wanted to write about tomorrow, but I figured you Lakers and Thunder fans might want to talk it out tonight after that game. Particularly after the Thunder thumped the Lake Show 101-96.

Oh, and the Suns are up 13 on the Blazers in the 4th when I’m posting this, and I didn’t even mention that the Bulls beat the Cavs.

There. There’s your recap.

Check back in this space tomorrow for, you know, actual content.

New decade, new small-city wonder. Ten years ago it was the Kings, and now the Thunder are stepping up to be the NBA’s best example of team/city/fan synergy.

Let’s hope it ends better for them than it did for CWebb and those Kings. At least we know Tim Donaghy won’t be involved this time.

    Another impressive analysis by Lang

  • Ken

LOL. But yeah, props to JRich for going off for 42!

  • Joey E.

    Lakers in 5

  • Jackie Moon

Lakers loss completely takes all the media attention off the fact that the consensus favorite Cavs lost a game to the Bulls, which was more unexpected than the Thunder winning tonight’s game. Kobe shot like doo doo.

  • neaorin

Both Bulls and Thunder are playing better than a normal eight seed. Anyway, so much for the Cavs playing each game like it’s the last.

  • Michael C.

Well the thunder are a 50 win team, so they’re not your average 8 seed anyways

  • Saami

Free throws win games kids! How much are these guys payed to practice!?

    Lang’s sleep deprived.

JRich is having the time of his bball LIFE out there this season. This bodes well for Uncle Nash and Papa Hill.

    9th!

  • Morgan

cosign neaorin. Plus, who is leaving J-Rich that open for that many shots?! The so-called D should be ashamed of themselves… Overall a great night of ball, even though my team lost. Playoffs rock.

    @jackie: who’s consesus?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    @spit: confucius cousin, i think.

D-Rose for MVP!!! He was amazing last night. We need him to play like this every night for a chance to win the series.

  • Sparty’s Law

There is nothing Derick Fisher could do to contain Russell Westbrook. Fish looked lost all night.

  • http://www.nba.com/bobcats Anton

Bron needs to stop getting every call EVERY game. It is starting to bother me!! The game needs to play fair. But it was finally nice to see D-Rose get some love from the refs last night.

  • Diesel

To everyone who’s comeback to Noah’s comments were “concentrate on not getting swept” and to everyone who made fun of me when I said Lebron’s unbelievable shooting in game 2 was not a result of him finally just decideing to shoot better…kiss the fattest part of my @ss! That being said, Cavs in 5 most likely, but I appreciate the Bulls hustle.

  • Diesel

@Anton – I’m a bulls fan and I don’t think Lebron gets too blatantly obvious preferential treatment. I actually think its pretty fair considering he’s the best player in the league. The only part that I don’t like is that NONE of his blocks are ever fouls.

  • T-Money

Hi fake Anton. Yeah, after yesterday’s game, it is safe to say that Bron does not get EVERY call. Deng was still moving on that charge and Jo Noah clotheslined him under the basket. The Cavs are just not playing championship caliber defense. This won’t get it done. 108 to the Bulls?! / For LA, it could all be so simple… Kobe took more shots than Drew, Pau and LO… COMBINED!!!

  • Tommy Patron

Well, really, a player can draw an offensive foul while he is still moving, so to use that as an argument against the call is specious.

  • A.

I don’t know if it’s Fake Anton. I think it’s more Sarcastic Anton.

  • A.

@Tommy Patron: Can he draw it while jumping in front of said player and not even being half way set? It wasn’t as though LeBron was running straight towards him and he was just waiting, he was coming from the side and just jumped in the way. That’s a offensive foul.

  • A.

Or maybe it IS Fake Anton! I give up.

I’d be really happy if neither the Lakers or the Cavs made the Finals. Sternbot would short-circuit and the league could flourish.

  • http://nicekicks.com CharmeloMan

Having the Lakers lose was OH so sweet :) ….James where u at!?

  • Logues

drose is a stud, loved that he was challenging bron, and loved that bron was guarding him, makes the game alot better when superstars guard each other.

  • http://www.nba.com/bobcats Anton

    This is fake Anton.

I hope the refs continue to call that offensive foul on LeBron when he puts his head down and plows through people. This goes for Carmelo and all the other young cats trying to learn from The King. You can’t just force your way to the hoop — a defender needs to at least have a CHANCE to play D.

  • Tommy Patron

@A. IMO he didn’t “jump” in the way. Deng was moving diagonally, but between LeBroad and the basket. LeBroad is entitled to his path in a straight line, but when he then angled toward the basket, creating contact with Deng, that allowed the offensive foul to be called. I really think it could have been a no call, as well, but definitely not a defensive foul.

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

The officiating system is geared to favour the offensive player. It’s a lucky break if ANY offensive fouls are called. Ever.
