Kidz In The Hall

Get a pass

by Konate Primus

A while back we had a pretty intense hip hop discussion on here and I remember a few people mentioning all these artist and groups I wasn’t familiar with. And as I’m working on my farewell ’08 post I went searching all those artist people brought up in that discussion and I came across a few good mentions, and allot of bad/really whack ones I.E gucci gucci! But what I felt I should share with you hip hop fanatics is this short interesting documentary about the Kidz in the Hall on tour.  I downloaded some of there tunes and, well I like what I heard for the most part. Check em out they are definitely not your average rap duo. A few other cats stood out to me as well when I was doing my “research” but you’ll read all about that tomorrow .

Some unsigned guys you should keep a ear out for J.Cole, and A.D.H …. allot of talent in those right there.

@Konate:Gucci Mane is BETcats favorite rapper of all time.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Konate, you really disapointed me. Sure i always overlooked your hipster ways. I turned my head the other way when you pick bright a$$ pink shoes and other sh!t under ‘hot’ catogorey. Sometimes you have decent taste in clothes. But i think all that non-lethal make pretend sword fighting you do, called fencing (or walling as i call it) is cool. HOWEVER, you got no taste in music. Kidz In The Hall? THATS VIDEO GAME MUSIC! THEY ARE ON A 2K GAME. THATS WERE YOU GO TO BROADEN YOUR BASE, BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE ONE. Gucci Mane controls the south. YOu come down here, you cant go no where in southeast raleigh without hearing his voice boomin out the trunk of a car or a radio in a open window. I got respect for them Kidz in the Hall, but Gucci would eat either one of those clowns alive in a battle. You silly silly goose. You doubt Gucci Mane? You really think your something. I understand you think his music sucks, and you are entitled to your views, but it is my job to educate you. DONT SLEEP ON GUCCI, DONT BLOCK YOUR EARS FROM GUCCI, GUCCI IS THE CHAMP. “I go hard ball
    Sponge bob
    Flip flop
    Paint job
    Louie V flip flops
    L -V tank top”
Listen to music, not garbage. Im done

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Im not done! The wilt chamberlin mixtape series is the best mixtape series of all time. Pt 1- Pt 5 are>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the crap u call music. Im not being nice any more. And i am totatly waiting for Russ or some OG SLAM Staffer/Roots fan to come along and make fun of me. Ill pull out the heat like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. I finish thigs.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

but anyway, enjoy Swayze/Hypebeast stuff that enjoys rappin about dope-on-a-rope-skinny-jeans-im-a-hip-hop-joke and ill do me.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Hangar 18>>>Any other ‘new’ hip hop group. And the new Ghostface album is decent. But MIMS ‘Move if you wanna’ IS A BEAST.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Gucci Mance may control SE Raleigh(damn, I feel sorry for SE Raleigh), but he in fact, does not control THE SOUTH. T.I.,Bun B,Scarface, Jeezy(who sh!ts on Gucci on the regular in mixtapes), Weezy, Chamillonaire, sh!t even Slim Thug have more of a claim to that than he does.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

You know how I know Gucci Mane probably sucks? His name is Gucci Mane.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

B.Long he may not control the burbs/middle class neighborhoods, but he got ownership where i live. Plus if you go by a hip hop map, H-Town music (or Texas music) is not part of the ‘dirty south’ so Bun B, Chamillonarie (who had a dope thing with 24scoprions recently), and Slim got no claims of ownership here. Everybody loves Jeezy, rap beefs are for rappers, but i just like Gucci more. Weezy doesnt control the South, he controls the entire rap game. I dislike TI so am unfit to judge him. Scarface RETIRED, keep up.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Luda had some good stuff, but its for ATL people, i am not from Atlanta and dont plan to go to Atlanta (no disrespect to Lang)

    We’ve found the new Dylan:
“My Chain My Chain Dont You Like My Chain Mane Young Gucci Mane And I’m Poppin Off The Chain Mane And My Jacob Is So Fruity Call Me Gucci Mane Or You Call Me Gucci Gucci”

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    ^sure as hell

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

yall can say what you want but my mind wont change just like your mind wont change. You can listen to your ‘old school’ and i will listen to my ‘school’

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

By ‘old school’ you mean new young artist who you don’t like.Yes?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

no was addressing you, cause you are a fan of 90′s music last time i checked. I already addressed Konate. Thanks for giving me a chance at claification

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

BETcats obviously hasn’t heard the hottest song in the south out right now, Forgot About Me, by Scarface featuring Lil Wayne…of course.

  • riggs

konate have u listened to any Wale?

  • http://hibachi0.blogspot.com Kid Presto

Gucci mane is aite with me but I don’t really dig him sometimes. He is the kind of artist that when he makes good music he makes it. but when he music is garbage,it is some hot garbage. I only listen to him because like BET says, he runs the south. down in mississippi they treat him like a god. All I hear is gucci, gucci, gucci!! “My chain stupid, my chain stupid, girl I ain’t stupid.” “So much ice call me gucci mane gretsky.” blah blah. it’s aite but he isn’t in my heavy rotation. my boy curren$y da hot spitta is though. that’s the kid none of you should sleep on. Fly Soceity! play wit it.

Sometimes, it is good to be older. This is one of those times.

You know what sucks? The Cool Kids! They were doing the first part of the M.I.A. show in Montreal last summer and it was kinda alright. So I gave it a listen… GARBAGE. They’re so freaking shallow. I mean… they look the part if you’re into that whole emo/skinny jeans ish but they have no talent whatsoever.
    Wale’s dope.

    Jedi Mind Tricks
    Percee P
    El Da Sensei
    Sean Price
    Elzhi

Just a few of the artists I’m feeling at the moment… and BETCats, when you are saying that people like 90′s music I think that’s narrow minded..people like good music regardless of what time frame it is released. The fact that so many people still bump early to mid nineties hip hop speaks on the quality and lasting appeal of that music from that era.

If you still are listening to Gucci Mane or whoever the flavor the month rapper is now, fifteen years from now (what…year 2023??) I’d be surprised. I’m sorry but the majority of mainstream rap from the southern regions these days is disposable, shallow, and not timeless in any way.

Respect to the real southern artists that paved the way for these clowns that are selling these days..Goodie Mob,Outkast, Withdoctor, 8Ball & MJG, Devin the Dude, Geto Boys, UGK, etc.. artists that had real content in their music and some sense of social responsibility.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Jedi, i was addressing one person (izzo) who does listen to 90s rap. Social responsibillity? If you think rap should have social responsibillity you are wrong. If you let rap music raise you and take every bar litteraly, your mother FAILED you. Because i get my moral values from her, not any sh!t Gucci says.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Word to what Jedi said.

  • jedi420

Fair enough BET, but what about the children that don’t have a proper upbringing? Lord knows there is enough broken families and children being raised by the television and internet…if you are able to support music acts that perpetuate negative stereotypes, materialism to the nth degree, violence etc. then that’s your choice. I personally won’t put a penny into any of these fools pockets…the reality is that these artist are in a position to have their voices heard by millions of people around the world and they choose to rap about chains, cars and guns. While I don’t think it’s their responsibility in anyway to raise someone else’s kids, the fact is that kids look up to these guys and (cringe…) they are role models. The sad part is that they might be good fathers to their own children, but are willing to contribute to the destruction of morals in society today for a paycheque..Just the way of the world I guess, huh??… (steps off soapbox haha :)

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Wale is awesome, best new artist of the year. Kid Cudi makes some decent music. Shout out to Jedi for recognizing UGK, Devin the Dude, and Geto Boys paved the way for this ish.

  • Ric Hardwood

I know y’all mentioned it already… Cool Kids, Kidz in the hall, and Wale. These cats are on the come up….

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

why does nobody know about Hangar 18? jedi, i am from a neighborhood full of them, lots of my friends are them, and they are nice simple people with terrible ideas of what to do for fun. I got a mom and grandparents to set me in the right path, and i got gucci mane to guide my earholes. Thats just my persona; Gucci for the ears, Words for cheers and jeers, and Parent/Grandparents for guidance. Lots of people do got that, they just choose not to use it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Hmm… On the subject, “historically” Geto Boys and Outkast rule the south.
    Not Gucci Mane.
Presently, don’t even mention Lil’ Wayne.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

New York is where real rap rules, though.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Tight clothes wearing, Girl brand loving, Purse hanging, Computer-generated voice singing, Emo hugging rappers need to stop it. Seriously.

  • the author

teddy, i agree with you but girl brand loving… does that inlclude Jay-Z?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Also @ jedi420: Who cares about musicians having social responsibility? Good music is good music. Besides, most of the artists who proclaim they have “social responsibility” these days are usually just pretentious, skinny jeans, purse wearing, skateboarding posers who produce crap and pass it as “hip hop”.

  • Jacob

Kidz in the hall are awesome!!! shout out to B.long for mentioning kid cudi he is really coming up

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

God damn Australia, backend of the world for music. Front end for pretty much everything else though. Gotta check these fellas out.

  • jedi420

@Teddy-the-Bear..trust me dude I’m not into skinny jean, purse rocking posers in any way lol..trying to use your sense of ”fashion” to get over is old hat, word to Kriss Kross.

@BETCATS… It’s all good, I get what your saying man, if you keep it as simple as you like how the music sounds then that’s how you see it. I can’t help but to see things in a different way.. IT’S STILL BIGGER THAN HIPHOP word to Dead Prez… I grew up off of NWA, 2 Live Crew, I had my little Master P/No Limit phase lol..but once I hit a certain age I just couldnt listen to that kinda crap anymore. Not to mention I just simply can’t relate to any mainstream rap. I don’t have millions of dollars, I don’t want to have millions of dollars, I don’t want to base my existence off of an image, I don’t enjoy popping bottles off overpriced champy in da club. To each their own though..

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Jedi: well i am a young stallion who likes to have fun. Can you hold that agianst me? And Teddy is from Canada, no more needed to be said about that, he is a cool dude with strong view points on things. His last name is Dong. Ding Dong Ding Dong

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ BETCATS: I’m pretty sure Gucci Mane has made you just a tad bit dumber than you normally are. Ding Dong? That’s some elementary sh!t right there.
PS: I know what and where real hip hop is. You are from North Carolina and like what you like. Fine. To each his own.
    @ jedi420: Makes sense.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ the author: Lol maybe? I was sort of thinking along the lines of Pharell, though.

  • mattyp

gucci mane……thats almost funny that you, BETCATS, are trying to say he would he naledge (the rapper from kidz in the hall).

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

mattyp: Gucci would eat him alive, then eat him dead.
