Patrick Patterson is a Wildcat. Finally.

Maybe inbreeding isn’t so bad after all.

Understand, Kentucky fans, this happened in spite of you, not because of you.

I don’t mean all Kentucky fans, or even most of you, just the short-bus riders who posted on the Patrick Patterson diary pages we ran to preview the Jordan All-American Classic a few weeks back. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt to Wildcat nation in general and assume that most of you are decent, rational folks, not the sort of bed-wetting, life-lacking tools who polluted our website last month. But to those of you who are, and who did, well, this is more than you deserve.

I recently spoke to Pat for a piece in the next issue of SLAM, and he reminded me how a bunch of you — and I have no doubt it was some of the same intellectual midgets who graced our pages — had drooled all over his Myspage page last year. He said this made him laugh, and I’m sure it did, though one could argue that such blatant stupidity, which could’ve brought NCAA sanctions, might not in fact have been funny. Fortunately for you, there are idiot fans at Florida and Duke, too, so your existence was mostly negated. And no, if you’re wondering, I’m not a fan of a rival school: I went to Penn State, so there is no rivalry. (Although I do feel compelled to note that, the last time we did play you, at your place, we ended your 20-game home winning streak. Sorry about that.)

Anyway, props to Pat for wading through all the crap and making his pick, and to Billy Gillispie, who appears not to be a bad recruiter. And props to the majority of UK fans who will, I trust, root for this kid to succeed and wish him well when he’s ready to leave. To the rest, I welcome your comments. But please, as always, make sure your chin straps are buckled and your drool cups are in place before you get back in front of your PC. Go Big Blue!

    Hi Ryan

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Well played, Bill.

  • http://www.hollie30.ws Billy Blanks

    Merci

  • Brad King

Aww, sounds like somebody has a little case of UK envy…Get used to it, because it isn’t going anywhere..No matter how much you take it out on the passionate fans who want to win…

    Good luck with that!

  • Brad King

You see, articles like this against the evil UK fans are nothing new. I am one, of course, but this guy likes to think that UK fans are doing something wrong because they are passionate. If something is wrong with having passion about basketball, you dont deserve to write about the sport. But don’t think articles like this that try to make UK look bad in the face of great news are something new… Hacks have beent trying it for years. Hell, since its UK basketball, lets go back to 1954 where some other hack like this guy tried the same thing to which the Philadelphia Enquirer responded, “Apparently the University of Kentucky basketball dynasty is to continue forever.” – Philadelphia Inquirer, December 23 1954. Any recruit that makes themself open to the public whether through myspace or a blog/diary is basically making himself susceptible to being contacted by fans..Its not different from approaching the guy in the street. And while hacks may say it’s a bad thing, the truth is, you dont see it at other schools because NO school has better fans that UK…Accept it.

  • SenoreElgante

On another note, if this guy is getting paid to write this bs, you could pay me half as much and I would do twice as good of a job.

  • Reality Check

Interesting that this guy calls people intellectual midgets when the title of this article in the the html is ‘Roll me some of that blue grass.’ Even more amazing is the fact that people would buy this sort of magazine…

  • http://justcoffee.net Juice

I don’t quite agree with Brad, but must admit that his response was well written and that I do share at least some of the sentiments that he expressed. I freely admit that there are some moronic UK fans out there, but, like Brad, I don’t think that there is any reason to apologize for being energetic, vocal and motivated. UK scored a major recruit in Pat Patterson and another in Alex Legion (not underrated in my opinion after watching his performance (even though his team lost) against Simeon of Chicago, in which he outshined even the much ballyhooed Brandon Jennings and that kid who’s going to Duke this season) and all UK fans have reason t obe ridiculously enthused about their new coach and the future of the program. The wildcats just went from being seriously undermanned going into next season to being a major threat that runs 8-10 players deep for 2007. We needed Patterson to come to UK and he did. So, congrats to the cats and, as always, we’ll be looking forward to more hateful articles about our program and its fans. Thanx!

I came to this website, yes as a Kentucky fan, wanting to read updates about patrick patterson. I am MORE than revolted at the way you spoke about people and fans of Kentucky. This has to be the most immature load of crap I have ever read in my life. The “fans” in which you spoke about who flooded your website in the past are just that…fans. You, on the other hand, Im assuming are a professional journalist. In NO WAY what you wrote is professional, and you should honestly be embarrassed. Yes we have people in Kentucky who are unfortunatly not all that educated, but Im sorry…so does EVERY OTHER FREAKIN STATE IN THE US. And every university and college is blessed with “idiot fans”, I challenge you to find one who doesn’t. I am also quick to point out if they don’t…they probably suck come tourney time. On the other hand, we do have MANY wonderful, caring, mature, and well educated professionals. Accept the fact that Kentucky fans are passionate about their school. Accept the fact that Patrick Patterson chose UK over the rest.

    *lowers sails, battens hatches*

  • SagaciousMind

Brad King said it best. UK fans are the best and everyone else is envious of this. UKs fans fill Rupp Arena every game when some schools are lucky if the bottom half of the arena is full. Tubby is gone and UK will be back in track. And then UK fans will say once again, we are the best! UCLA finally got back on top, UK will too!!

  • Mark

I am a passionate UK fan. While there are some UK fans like the ones you describe they are by far the minority. What you must realize is that your article will only encourage them. You have given them far more attention than they deserve. Yet not nearly as much as they desire. They are best left ignored.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jake Appleman

    Ryan,

I find your words directly against the fans of the esteemed University of Kentucky deplorable. You have no basis to criticize such a proud fan base. What? Is this your trademark sarcasm, because it’s not funny. People from Kentucky are people, too; actually, many of them are Farmers like yourself. Just because you don’t have any relatives that you want to have sex with, don’t hate on others because of fundamental differences, because that is ignorance.

  • Homie

‘ballyhooed’ ?? Billy Packer, is that you?

  • Greg

To the author of this rag of an article I wipe my ass with: what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

PS I see you went to Penn State. I understand now. You have been irrelevant in both basketball AND football for some time now. Goodbye.

  • Cat Fan

Wow. How did this guy get a job writing articles for a magazine. Im pretty disgusted at the way he calls us short bus riders and insinuates we are inbred. And how can he even begin to knock our enthusiasm and passion? Thats what seperates college basketball form the pros. I ve heard about the fans on recruit’s myspaces and i agree its a little over the top. But we are crazy for our school and we demand excellence. Being average doesnt cut it in our program. As I can that being average is standard issue at Penn st.

  • http://www.sparkgrass.com Garrett

As a loyal Cat fan, I salute my Crispin brothers overlords. That was an amazing game for PSU, one that any PS alum should be proud to remember.

As for the rest of that article (inbreeding? seriously?), what a weak, pitiful writer.

  • Decs

This post might hit around 50 comments, 98% of which will be hate mail by those Kentucky fans. Isn’t this going to be fun.

  • Matt

You hit the nail on the head, all programs have idiot fans who lack any real life! That being said when you post your diatribes it shows your ignorance for responding to such fans. 90% percent of all UK fans are decent, hard working and respectful. Most are highly educated and have attained high social status. But it seems that because a fan may, for some reason, not like a particular coach then that fan is deemed a loon! For everyones information we had fans who did not like Rick Pitino! We will have fans who do not like Bill Gillispie! I have yet to see any proof a fan has ever gotten a coach fired. The truth is once again 90% of fans liked Tubby, Rick, and any other past UK coach. Also at Kentucky we have the same fan problems of any other school yet various media outlets scold us for having to high expectations or use idiotic misrepresenting slurs like you! Being from Pennsylvania, a main dairy producing state, how would you feel if I accused all Pennsylvanians of copulating with cows. I am sure you have your share of inbreds as well. Good Day, Jerk!

  • Decs

and Greg, I’m not dumber for having read this article, and I understood the article quite clearly. Maybe your just a dumbass and needed something to blaim? I smell a scapegoat.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jake Appleman

How amazing is it that I wrote a comment in what I will call my Stephen Colbert voice and it sounded not only like the previous comments that it mocked, but also exactly like the subsequent ones.
    Wow…
Do all the haters out there realize you’re just proving him right with your responses?

  • David Pat

They say, “Even a broken clock is right twice a day”. So sorry we wish we could say at least the same for you! Go BIG Blue!

  • Bob Johnson

You need to change your name from “SLAM” to “SPAM” because your magazine SUCKS!!!!!!!!! As for UK, I don’t have to explain anything. I think our (7) National Championship banners say it all!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO CATS!!!!!!!

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I’m kind of glad my alma mater’s basketball program sucks.

  • JB

Honestly, it seems as if a good part of the national media may be pretty ignorant of the UK fan base. It seems the “in” thing to do to bash us for being uneducated hillbillies that ran off a coach because he could not perform at a level that kept our program at an elite status that it had always had….hmmm…how many coaches has UCLA gone through, how many mediocre seasons will Duke give Coach K’s successor?

The fact of the matter is, that we are the Yankees of college basketball…we are the premier program in college basketball history, and we expect the best…our fans are passionate, all others hate us because of envy…get over it.

As far as your generalization about us, well, I can tell you that I have a Master of Science, make quite a good living, and will debate the author of this article any time, any where on basketball, UK, life, or anything else.

  • amina

I no longer live in the United States, and Kentucky was my home and Kentucky basketball like a religion to me. I keep up through my mom now. What has been written about our fans, and Kentuckians in general as inbreads is horendous, and shamefull, and this man should honestly be reprimanded as a journalist, or even loose his job!!! The Kentucky fans are the best in the world!!!!go back to pennsylvania, stay there, and leave us alone!!!!!!

  • martin

SagaciousMind is a dreamer – UCLA back on top? Florida stomped them each on its way to back-to-back. Patterson is a great player but you guys totally choked by dumping Tubby so rudely. Imagine what he could do with this recruiting class. You will have wasted the recruiting success with you temporary coach. Don’t kid yourselves! Go Gators!

  • DandyDan

    *Penn State?*….’Nuff said…..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Decs, my only regret is that we may not get to 50. I have a quota to reach.

  • K22C

Well I do not care much about UK…. but i will tell you syracuse will be a team to reckon with next year.

  • James

I had a good argument to write up. But I couldn’t word it properly. Basically im on Ryans side, those fans on PP’s pages were absolute idiots. He’s not jealous, or hates UK fans (although maybe he does) – they were just really really stupid posts and he is pointing out that they actually had no effect on this decision at all. Also, couldn’t this spamming on his myspace page be considered harassment?

  • natchamps98

I think calling Kentuckians inbreeds is a little much don’t you, pls announce to us next time u come thru our state and we will show u what a inbreed asswhoopin we can give.

  • James

Having read all the comments, I’ve got so much I want to say to these UK fans. But I won’t. Ill just sit here and laugh heartily. TOO FUNNY.

  • AyVee

WOOOW!! okay like every school or team, kentucky’s got the ignorant fans that think UK is the best team in the world and nobody can beat them even if they were 2-30.EVERY team has fans like that but being from kentucky and living right across the river from louisville, you basically cant go a day with out arguing with a UK fan like that. to me it just seems like kentucky has A LOT more fans like that then any other college and thats why i cant stand UK. I am a die hard louisville fan because my dad played there but as a team i like kentucky, i just hate the way SOME of their fans worship them like they came straight from the heavens

  • natchamps98

I take exception to be called an inbred…u marry one cousin and tainted for life..

  • Decs

maybe i should just post 16 more comments to prove myself right?

  • Decs

what the hell, i might as well

  • Decs

this is actually really sad, kind of puts my life in perspective…. i need to get out more, much like those nutter UK fans you describe.

  • Decs

o yer, and why the hell do some of the articles in the slam get continued in the back of the magazine. i hate it when magazines do that, it ruins the flow of the article.

  • Decs

    i give up.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

I’m trying to refrain from padding my own stats, Dec (though I do appreciate your help) but I will answer your question. Like most magazines, SLAM has certain advertising obligations that are pretty much set in stone. Among those are those “fractional” ads (1/4 or 1/3 page, usually) that pretty much have to run in the back of the book. From an editorial standpoint, it sucks because those ads inevitably cut into layouts and make a mess of the editorial design. For years we generally stuck those ads in the Punks section, but we hated how they made Punks look (especially when some of them are soft-porn ads for cell phone screen savers, mixed in with stories about underage players — yikes), so when we did the re-design a few months back, we decided to go back to the very old-school SLAM practice of putting those fraction ads on “jump” pages — the pages that jump the text of a feature article. It definitely helps the look and flow of the Punks section, but you’re right that the tradeoff is bad for one or two feature articles each month that get sort of dismembered and continued in the back. We just felt the current version is the lesser of two evils. I guess just be happy that, unlike a lot of monthly magazines (your Esquires, etc) we don’t do that with ALL our features. Hopefully we never will.

wow. i missed out on all of this yesterday. Ryan, how did you get a job writing/running magazine(s)?

A fair question, Cub, and one I cannot answer. Russ originally hired me, so you might want to ask him.

“Slam” magazine? Reads more like “Whine” magazine to me.

  • Aaron

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the author calling a small population of Kentuckyians “inbred” and “short bus riders” and Don Imus calling a small percentage of African Americans “nappy headed hos”? They both seem derogatory and racial to me. Shouldn’t this man be made to make a public apology and be fired? Of course not because it wouldn’t gather near enough attention in the media.

  • The Librarian

Calm down, UK fans. Why do you care what this geek writes? He’s a blogger for a crappy magazine whose entire subscription list is made up of about 50 twelve year old white kids from suburbia. You should only freak out when people who are relevant insult you, boys.

  • Porter

By using the term “inbred” you have lost all credibility with even the anti Kentucky crowd you were trying to impress. My guess is that you’re fired before I hit the submit button.

  • http://rivals BodybyJack

My Grandfather was from PA. That makes it a sure thing my family in inbred. After all PA cousins are the best! On a sillier note, if UK, and the UK fans, are so irritating to you why write about them at all?

  • todd randolph

Now I see why the mag is called SLAM…You like to slam people you don’t even know and you have probably never been to Ky..I have been to Penn. a few times and you know you have more inbred people in Penn than Ky..2 bit mag with a 2 bit hack writer..Journalist are professionals and a hack is, well “Ryan Jones”..
One ?, Why dont you write about the worst fans in the world, the Philly fans…Your biggest claim to fame, a frickin sub sandwich..I’d rather be known for Bourbon and bluegrass…oh yeah and our favorite inbred Ashley Judd..

  • UKLawyer

What a bunch of shit. Using the term inbred? You damn loser. You actually get paid to write or you just get it off the bathroom walls? I bet Penn State is embarassed as hell about you.

  • brandon

Just kind of strange that someone from Penn St. would want to use the term inbreeding in a derogatory manner. Ever heard of the Mennonites or Amish? They did studies on groups based in Pennsylvania and their high rate of genetic disease do to inbreeding. PA has some of the highest rates of inbreeding in the country.

    Hello pot?

Hey Decs you worthless waste of oxygen…that was a quote from Billy Madison. Had you a sense of humor, possibly you would have seen it.

  • http://canthang.blogspot.com Derek

SLAM magazine is nothing more than a poor and pitiful attempt at being a baskbetball magazine by hiring delusional writers like this. That was your cue to make a joke about what a horrible teacher I’ll be. And boost my hit count once again. Much appreciated.

  • Cat Fan From DC Area

“Maybe inbreeding isn’t so bad after all”?

Good luck with not getting sued. Good luck on keeping the majority of your college basketball subscribers – espcially since KY fans have one of the largest fanbases in all college sports. I could care less what the rest of the article said, the implication that Kentuckians are imbred not only is a direct attack on KY fans, but the entire state of Kentucky as well. I hope you feel proud.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

The hook has been unlet. And thank goodness.

  • Richie

Great article Ryan, I think Pat Patterson should get a SLAM cover so that all these foolish UK fans will be forced to buy a copy to read it.
@ all the UK fans, please be sure to wear knee pads while you guys are hangin’ off Pat’s jock.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

That’s not a bad idea, Richie, but just so it’s clear, I’m really not partisan on this one. I really don’t care enough about UK or most of their fans to hate them, and I’m sure I could’ve written the exact same thing about certain fans at most schools, my alma mater included. It’s just that this special handful of mouth-breathers made it too tough to resist.

  • Imus_Works_For_Slam_Now

I am a Wildcat fan in Chicago. Your statements are exactly what got Don Imus into hot water. Did you support his comments and right to free speech or defend your NYC Rutgers team? I’m guessing the latter.

Your baseless accusation of UK fans being inbred is both prejudicial and imbecilic. It also lacks proper journalistic integrity. Maybe that’s why you’re writing on a Slam blog instead of a real media source? Have you ever been to the state of Kentucky? I have. They are mostly courteous, helpful, and extremely happy about the lives they lead. To call them inbred is complete lunacy, and to not post your real name is nothing short of cowardice.

On a side note, Patterson stated last week that the fans, “love me” and that they were playing a huge role for him. Get your facts straight before Slam relegates you to to a smaller venue (is that possible, considering where you’re already at?).

I for one think this ignorant racist they call Ryan Jones is a deplorable human being. How dare judge the mating preferences of the people of the great state of Kentucky?A state which has brought such noble people as the great Colonel Sanders. The people in the great state of Kentucky do not believe that thay should have to share their obviously far superior genes with outsiders, one way of insuring the conservation of the Kentucky gene is the “attractive cousin” route the other and much more common way is the famous “Kentucky ouder” whose rich smell consisting of fried chicken, cheap domestic beer and sweat acts as a repellent to all outsiders but acts as an aphrodisiac to all within the great land.I call for the public burning of Ryan Jones and all articles and books ever written by his ignorant hands.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    I can’t argue with that.

  • brandon

LOL! FARMER JONES (anyone else find the irony in this) is “from Cali so have fun with that” I seriously hope this was a poor attempt at sarcasm. Otherwise WOW what an egotistical statement to make. And the comparison to Imus…..LMAO. The difference is that you can make these types of statements and outside the handful of readers on the net, no one will care. This is nothing more than a pitiful attempt to “boost your hit count” but no one outside yourself cares about your hit count. I question why you would leave the great state of California to go to PSU. But on second thought I dont really care. Your job is a stepping stone for most. Ryan I envy you,to have the opportunity to annoy and insult so many (they deserve it too)is just something I will only dream about, just remember how lucky you are

  • brandon

Ryan: With wit like that there is no longer a need to directly communicate the fact that you are from California.

As for the Kudos: Im sure some podunk slack jawed, inbred, red neck UK fan sells them at the local thrift store. You might have to hop on your mule to get there and if you have shoes on they will not serve you. Post dated as the kudos may be it is worth the risk.

be advised: They dont take kindly to Californians. Like I said that wit may give you away so be careful.

Personally I think you have watched “Next of Kin” to many times.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Phil, your post is suspiciously reasonable and implies a healthy sense of humor. I think you must be in the wrong place.
And Izzo, I’m just proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free… to piss off rednecks.

  • brandon

Oh and I can say inbred because I have a friend that is inbred.

H to the Izzo: keep it up you are on your way. I think you are selling yourself short. You have as large an audience as Ryan.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    You mean this?
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097967/
Just moved it to the top of my Netflix queue. I doubt it’s as good as Roadhouse, but still, I appreciate the heads up.

  • H to the izzo

Brandon:If I had my own blog on this site trust me you’d be much more offended
Phil:You being a reasonable person with a sense of humour just ruined this whole comments section

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

I will say though, Brandon, I think it’s a shame how you generalize people based on what state they’re from. It’s 2007, man. You should be better than that.

  • brandon

That’s how I live. People are grouped by state and then sub-grouped by college affiliation?

I do have one question maybe you can clue me in. Slam is the only magazine that I have never seen in any office waiting room I have been to is it really that boring?

  • brandon

H: to the Izzo says if he had his own blog id be much more offended. What would you post a picture of yourself and that blow up spartan doll you have?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Yes. Our goal each month is to make The Economist look light-hearted and accessible.
By the way, you know page views are kind of like Nielsen ratings for the Internet, right? So, from all of us here at SLAM, please keep the questions coming!

  • H to the izzo

No Brandon I find real women much better-you should try one sometime and no before you ask your sister doesn’t count
Quick question Brandon:Why are you still here?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Don’t scare him off, izzo. I still have to be at the office for another hour or so, and it’s either this or porn to kill the time. Only one of those options will get me fired…

  • H to the izzo

    My mistake please Brandon continue…..
I have to work overtime so I have about three hours to kill,I now see the error of my last comment-so Brandon call some of your friends we’ll have a hoe-down so to speak

  • http://slamonline.com mutoni

after reading through all of the comments on this post, i think it’s time they shut down the internets.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I wish my college choice had caused this much of a ruckus.

  • brandon

H: I know your pimp isnt making you work OT is he. ooooh real women I am glad you can find them. congrats.

And Ryan as much as I despise your position on UK fans I still dont want to see you get fired. I know the magazine sales aint supporting any of you. If this has to be it then I’ll consider these posts my good deed for the day.

  • http://slamonline.com mutoni

    hicks scare me. seriously.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Wait, The Economist isn’t light-hearted and accessible? When did this happen?

  • http://slamonline.com mutoni

i love the economist, but would it kill them to give their writers a byline?

  • H to the izzo

No Brandon my boss is what an odd question to ask
Brandon did you see the Patrick Patterson posts?
Yes the non-in breeding world still has real women unlike the half and half “things” that can often be seen in the crowds at UK

  • brandon

H: at least your pimp is taking it easy on you. Sorry to hear you boss isnt. Reading the posts wont change my opinion on relating dumb UK fans to being inbred. I dont have to read the posts. Its stupid to post anything on a prospects myspace page, content wont change that. Half and half things? I would suggest rehashing jeff foxworthy jokes should be your next attempt at redneck humor. At least ryans are a little humorous.

  • Steve O

Blue Chips is about to air on HBO, I suggest all UK fans watch it to learn the ins and outs of recruiting. Also to admire the acting chops of Rex Walters.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Only a little?

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I will always love Blue Chips for casting Shaq, Penny and…Matt Nover. Obviously that was the peak of Nover’s career—and probably the most money he ever made in basketball. Honorable mention to Bob Cousy shooting free throws and Bobby Hurley playing for Indiana.

  • brandon

Steve O, I have already seen blue chips. Unfortunately for you “how to hold your own, on a message board: for dummies” Only comes in book form.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Cousy should’ve won Sixth Man of the Year for his role in Blue Chips.

  • H to the izzo

Brandon you will really have to at some point get over that sexual attraction you have to a University
So you think my stand up career won’t work out?Oh well back to college for me

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

They need to make a sequel.

  • H to the izzo

Can we actually start discussing basketball here or is it too late for that

  • H to the izzo

Russ:Sequels will only taint the original, but it still does need to happen

  • Steve O

Brandon, congrats on seeing Blue Chips and I’m sorry my posts aren’t up to par with your oh so witty banter. But you will notice I wasn’t pointing only at you when addressing all UK fans.

And yes a Blue Chips sequel needs to be put in the works.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Bluer Chips?
    Live Free or Blue Chips?
    Spiderman 3: Blue Chips?
Actually, f*ck that, they should an animated version with Shrek instead of Shaq. And Eddie Murphy’s jackass as Penny. I’m there.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

You’re welcome to discuss anything you want. However, if you think Blue Chips isn’t basketball, you’re crazy.

  • brandon

H: Its not the stand-up I am calling into question its the ability to join the rest of us as a free thinker. You sound like you are reading from a “yo momma” jokes site. Sexual attraction to a university? LMAO

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    Shreq?

  • Steve O

I’m pretty sure that the brother who was banned from the tribe in The Air Up There also plays on Western U. But I never saw a Jimmy Dolan Shake and Bake

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    The Big Ogrestotle?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    I’m really sorry about that.

  • Steve O

My bad, incomplete post. I meant to say what i wouldn’t give to see a Jimmy Dolan shake and bake

  • H to the izzo

Brandon I’l give you that I wasn’t exactly on top form but that yo momma comment was cold, you have caused a relapse in my depression so I’m now going to eat a gallon of ice cream and then throw it up thanks a lot

Russ I wasn’t talking about Blue Chips, second best basketball movie ever

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    God, you should be.

  • Steve O

I don’t know who would do the role of Pete Bell justice nowadays

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    Nick Nolte’s still got it.

  • H to the izzo

Who’d play Penny’s role these days?

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Well, it wouldn’t be a remake or anything. Sequel. With all the current kinds of guys—I’m thinking a kid who HAS to go to college even though he doesn’t want to (an O.J. Mayo type), a foreign Chad Ford wet dream type who just wants to go to college for the ladies (and who doesn’t speak a lick of English) and some sort of a bad-news guy who can just flat-out play (think any late-’90s Blazer). All with an old-school curmudgeonly coach.

  • Steve O

Agreed it would definitely have to fit in with the rules that are currently in place. I picture the Euro-Kid as someone from Eastern Europe, don’t ask me why. More importantly where can I get my hands on an Western U. Butch McRae jersey?

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

    Russ, where’s slamadamonth?

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

Sorry Russ. Susan asleep on the job. You can resume your hysterical Blue Chips commentary.

  • Phil B

reasonable and a sense of humor? hell yes! that’s why i’m married. wrong place? hell no! i really wanted patrick patterson to go to UK too!! of course, i didn’t even know he had a myspace page. of course all the kids do nowadays. i do too, but i don’t do anything to it. it was fun for a couple weeks though. i feel old.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Ben: Apologies for it not being in earlier anyway. P.S. Harris E-Mail ’07: Sucking More Than Ever.

  • tike

HEY THERES NO PLACE LIKE PA..BEING THAT IM FROM THE GREAT STATE….ON ANOTHER NOTE THANKS PAT FOR PICKING MY SQUAD LOOK FORWARD 2 SEEING YOU IN A UK JERSEY…HOLLA

  • http://slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Russ, I think I speak for all slamonline.com readers when I say I’m VERY excited to read your unique take on Flip Murray’s memorable dunk in the next issue.

  • Eoin

Wait…where did these people come from?DO YOU IDIOTS JUST COME TO ANY SITE THAT HAS THE WORDS “PATRICK” AND “PATTERSON” ON IT??Good God.I know I’m late to this, but if there are any Kentucky “fans” reading this, they should try reading the magazine before they just abuse Ryan. And while they’re at it, realise that their comments on the Diary were everything that is wrong with college basketball recruiting. And shut the F*** up…God damn…

  • http://slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Yes, Eoin. Yes they do. That’s the problem with google news alerts…
Anyway, I do appreciate the support fellas, but in fairness, these people have definitely upped the unintentional comedy rate around here, so I’m sort of glad they’re around. As long as it’s only temporary.

  • H to the izzo

Now I know I’m late on this but Gary Busey could play the coach in Blue Chips……oh ya F*ck Kentucky

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

I’m certainly not going to start now, OMWM.

  • oliver

    ata boy ryan-

  • brandon

the only thing good that came out of the article was unintentional. The mark of a great sports writer

  • natchamps98

Oj Mayo’s Weed Man – why don’t u suck yourself since your head is up your ass..come to our state and say that to anyone’s face and u will never ever see the light of day again…

  • H to the izzo

    Thy’re still here apparantly

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Their stock is hearty, izzo.

  • http://. H to the izzo

In a bid to get to 200 I would like to say that Adolph Rupp couldn’t coach Ben Wallace to a Defensive player of the year..oh wait Ben Wallace is black he wouldn’t have coached him anyway

  • natchamps98

U all suck, Slam magazine sucks – u have ruined your self in state of Ky – good move dumbasses

  • brandon

I do have a question when Izzo asks for your hand in marriage Ryan whose last name will be kept? Or are you all progressive and it will be. Mr. and Mr. Ryan Izzo-Jones.

H: all you need to do is keep up the dumb posts and you can reach 200 on your own. Or did you not realize that?

  • brandon

In an effort to help Izzo out in his quest.

Ryan there are benefits to having a disabled domestic partner

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Honestly, I can’t see why people feel the need to be insulting.

  • http://. H to the izzo

Actually Brandon I’m spoken for and believe this or believe it not my real name isn’t izzo its Alan so…good one.
And also if you could keep your ignorance away from this site it would be great,I have a brother that is paralyzed from the waist down and his life has been nothing but a struggle..my comments were nothing but playfull joking around but if you want to say things that you have no idea about how thier lives are affected by this…just stop you ignorant pr*ck…some people

  • http://. H to the izzo

    sorry about the rant

  • brandon

I was referring to your mental disability. OH so I see you can make fun of inbred people where some have no choice they cant pick there parents. That is all fine and good. But once what you perceived as a joke towards someone that was closer to you then its time to get all up in arms and rant and call me a prick. So you are saying it is perfectly ok to make fun of people as long as they arent connected to you? What a hypocrite. You are what I like to refer to as a band wagon jerk. You take the side of what is popular so you can be a part of something because your to weak to stand up for what you really think. If you really think it is wrong to make fun of a group of individuals then fine. But dont pretend that my statement about disabled people was ANY different than the ones you made about inbred people you hypocritical a$$.

How the hell would I know if you or your brother was physically disabled. I was connecting the dots between your posts and your MENTAL capacity. Sorry you havent done much else here other than toss out idiotic statements and kiss Ryan’s ass. On top of that you let your womanly emotions get the best of you in a pitiful attempt to rally support from others.

    You are pathetic

I guess the difference in playful joking and offensive joking is if they relate to you or not.

And Im not sorry about the rant.

Your ignorance and lack of a spine has been displayed time and time again.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

I think izzo was saying it’s OK to make fun of people who choose to have sex with their immediate family members. And I would tend to agree with that.
    177…

  • brandon

Well thanks for clearing that up for me ryan

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

I am your humble public servant, brandon.
Since you’ve stuck around this long (and may in fact be the only one left), let me ask you something: Were you one of those people who posted on Patrick’s diary a couple weeks ago?

  • brandon

Sorry I need to clarify that for Izzo he might not get it. That is such BS ryan and you know it. His and your statements were both about inbred people. Not the contributors of inbreeding. I dont see that clarified anywhere before now. I think you should work on your own back peddling before you try to do it for someone else.

Why could Izzo not come up with this lame a$$ excuse for himself? Maybe he is searching through your purse for his balls.

  • brandon

No honestly I was not one of those people that posted anywhere on Patrick Pattersons anything. Not that you read everyone of my posts but I actually stated my discontent towards those people, UK fans or not. There is no need for that. I also have openly stated my issues with many fair-weather UK fans. The ones that turned on tubby so quickly after his departure. These people are not UK fans, they are not inbred they are ignorant. The only excuse they have is lack of knowledge and commonsense. To me as a Kentuckian and a UK fan your comments were appalling on many different levels. I dont expect you to really care you wrote about your opinion and I am doing the same.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Then I wasn’t talking about you. My comments on those diaries, and in this column, were incredibly specific. Obviously, I don’t think the state of Kentucky if populated with inbreeders any more than I think Central Pennsylvania is (and you should see some of the people around here). I used the inbred and short-bus references to make a point about the stunning lack of intellect and common sense these people exhibited, just as your implications that izzo and I are effeminate and/or gay are making a point… well, they’re not really, but I guess what’s the difference? You didn’t have to take any of this personally, man, but you chose to.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Or “is” populated, if you prefer. I’m in trouble now…

  • http://. H to the izzo

Brandon I honestly don’t know why I’m replying I never once said anything about you personally,I made my point through a rash stereotype that I don’t even believe, those people were trying to sway the choice of a potential player through threatening remarks, which was ridiculous. All points I made were directed towards them not you.If you were one of the people who wrote against it then you shouldn’t be offended.I didn’t want to get personal in any way because there is no need for it,but your remarks annoyed me because I never meant inbred in a literal way or directed towards everybody in Kentucky,I am not that dim,it was obviously not serious but you chose to take it serious. Also a question:What are you defending?

  • brandon

Point taken. I knew your article wasnt directed at me persay but i was mutually included if that makes sense? Being a UK fan and being born and raised in Kentucky add to that I am a “redneck” or farm boy. Maybe that better articulates point of reference.

And it was “And” not “Or” on my description of yourself and Izzo……..LOL

Well I must say that you do have a talent for turning this all around.

Im not an editor and I made enough grammatical errors in my posts. People in glass houses should not casts stones…..err something like that.

  • http://. H to the izzo

Look if your here to stay make a comment on another aricle because this is getting a bit tedious

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Deep down, I know we all love each other. Just not in a gay or inbred way.

  • http://. H to the izzo

Can’t we all say we’re all gay and inbred just to be done with this

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

That wouldn’t really work, izzo. If we were both, I mean.

  • http://. H to the izzo

We would have world peace if everyone was both

  • Steve O

UK is pussing out playing at UMASS… bums!!!

  • brandon

Ryan could you please write a more generalized UK hate article to appease steve o? He’s like the 3 yr old no one pays attention to when the adults are talking. Next time Steve just say “Hey, I want some attention”

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Sorry man, I don’t have it in me.

  • Steve O

What can i say brandon I wasn’t hugged enough as a youngster, obviously sarcasm is tough to pick up through type. I read that in the paper the other day and wanted to fire you up, again. Mission accomplished.

  • brandon

Sorry but I dont tend to think about any of you when reading the sports page. I kind of play it by ear. Like the true evil master mind you are you only relate your fiendish plan after springing your trap on me. OH THE HUMANITY…..WILL IT EVER END. I have been out smarted by STEVE OHHHHH!

  • anonymous

Pat is a great player and i wish him well at Kentucky.

  • bigmike407

Questions of the day: Will he want out since Tubby has left the building? And how long will he stay at UK? As a UK fan (in UF country, no less. I went to the camp after they won it all in ’96 and had a ball.), I hope he stays all four. But in this day and age, where the League is now the new get-rich-quick scheme, will he leave unprepared to get paid? I’m glad we got him, but I doubt he’ll stay around long.
