Trice Commits To UConn

by Franklyn Calle

uconnThe University of Connecticut has received a verbal commitment from Jamal Trice. The 6-5 shooting guard who is originally from Los Angeles and attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California is now doing a prep year at Mount Zion Christian Academy in Durham, North Carolina, same school in which NBA star Tracy McGrady attended.

After arriving to UConn on the Monday December 29th, Trice set behind the Huskies bench for the UConn-Georgetown game held at the XL Center.

He told the Hartford Courant on Monday that there was no chance he will give a verbal commitment before leaving on Wednesday as he wanted to return to L.A., speak to his family and plan more visits during the second semester at Mount Zion. But apparently he had a change of heart and decided to end his recruitment process on Wednesday morning the 31st when he made his commitment to the Huskies program.

The L.A. native is currently averaging 26.2 points and 6.3 rebounds for his prep team according to the Charlotte News & Observer.

Trice was also considering South Florida, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wake Forest. He will be joining Alex Oriakhi and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, both attend The Tilden School in New Hampshire, as part of the Huskies in-coming freshman class for next season.

I was just asking Justin Walsh whatever happend to Mt. Zion. I new they used to produce D1 players on the regular and T-Mac spent his prep days there. Guess they’re still doing what they do.

Do you think to get young, up and coming star sportsmen to commit to any one particular college, they trot out all the most attractive girls that go there to fill the gym…? That would work.

T-mac wasn’t even truly on the national radar until ABCD Camp, he went from like, 113th to 6th ranked HS senior in the country in one camp…

    A Trice/Walker/Majok pg/sg/pf line-up will be sweet.

I coach this kid and uconn is definitely getting a one of a kind person/athlete. He works harder than any player I have been around and he keeps getting better and is very humble. He will make a lot of people happy at uconn
