Nowadays Juilius Hodge is meandering around hoop’s minor leagues. Once upon a time, he was the ACC’s top player while at NC State, a first-round draft pick and more than worthy of a SLAM Mag feature. A lot has happened in this Harlemite’s life between then and now.–Tzvi Twersky

Really dope photos. Classic SLAM style. Loved this guy in college, still surprised he never worked out.

everything changed for him the day chris paul ko’d his nuts. he lost his mojo.

  • Fleezy

    HAHAHA Tarzan.

Julius Hodge is an overrated punk. Saying he was the best player in the ACC is quite a stretch.

    Fleezy, ACC POY’s don’t count?
I would say things changed the night he got shot while in a car driving around North Denver.

  • Double J

I remember Julius Hodge, that was my boy in the NC2A back then. Too bad he got shot, I remember waiting to hear about some sick statline from him his rookie year, but instead got, “Denver Nuggets Rookie, Julius Hodge, was shot last night…”

  • underdog

Alpha Wolf. I really thought he could make the jump.

Australia hates him. Hope he’ll find a way to be successful.

his nba career didnt suck cuz he got shot, it sucked cuz he was a college player, like adam morrison, and jj reddick.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Well when you never get a chance to play/prove your self it happens. Adam had lots of chances, and is a failure. JJ is not, JJ is a role player and can still shoot, he will never average 20, but 11 ppg doesnt seem unlikely for him.

he’s got a blog at hoopshype.com and obviously gererd red it

    alles goed man?

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/ Michael NZ

Well, I’ve seen him play in New Zealand (for Adelaide)… guess that sums it up really.

  • Roy

he used to play for the adelaide 36ers until they didn’t pay him once so he didnt rock up to some trainings or something like that, then they got rid of him
he was one of the best players in the nbl i think but i never got to see him play cos i went to a game and he wasn’t there…

    Here Moose.
I did a feature on Julius on our blog ( you have to click my name). To find it, go through the list of articles.
The 36′ers said they payed him- they didn’t.
He would probably have gotten MBL MVP (or at least first team). He was putting up triple doubles regularly and he jumpstarted (for a time) a dying league.
Anyways, he could flat out ball. He got picked mid first round, played for Denver sparingly, held Bryant to a season low pt total when JR was injured and got traded the next day to the Bucks who waived him.
It’s just sad that Hodge hasn’t got a home in the League- he’s definitely good enough to be a solid bench player, and for some team (Charlotte) he could be the starting 2…

  • stokesey

Hursty, from my understanding the 2nd time he came to the 36ers (season just gone) he got paid a day late(he did get paid), and then he bailed on the team without notifying anyone!! From the stats he put up he seemed decent, he did have a blog video(via youtube) put up on jronfire.blogspot.com, giving his side of the story but it was taken off the site, for some reason before i saw it. Bit of a mystery

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

stokesey, getting paid a day late in north america is outrageous. nobody would work for a company that doesn’t have an automated payment system. don’t they have direct deposit in australia?

  • Pigott17

he played down under for the nbl and got a triple double,it think it was the first in history for the nbl…or just that season but it was like his seond or third game

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Like I said, you can go through all the old posts on my/our blog and go find the information. He was the best player in the competition- bar none. It wasn’t even close. Seriously.

Pigott- not first in history, but quickest and in least amount of games played.

  • rainman10

He and Ricky Paulding should be in the league somewhere.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cub Buenning

    Tarzan…. C’mon.

Getting shot mattered, a lot! Like BET mentioned, Never given an extended shot in the league (pun not intended)

He was getting some minutes with the Nugs and was back + forth between Broomfield (14ers) and Denver which is the path many take/will take to become solid nba vets.

  • The Last Kings Fan

I wanted the Kings to draft him, but they got Garica from Louisville instead. I guess that turned out ok
