Elena Delle Donne to play at Delaware
Last summer, the best high school recruit in the country, Elena Delle Donne, shocked the entire basketball community when she told UConn that she was no longer interested in playing college basketball after attending summer classes at the school and withdrawing two days into classes. She informed the program that she was transferring to the University of Delaware foregoing her scholarship to the best women’s basketball program in the nation. Head coach Geno Auriemma told Delle Donne it was not that she had lost interest in basketball or had burned out on the sport but that she was simply just homesick. Delle Donne disagreed back then but close to a year later, she admits that he was right all along. But now she’ll be a Blue Hen.
