Twas the morning of Christmas, and all through the nation
Not a team was stirring, the players were on vacation
The coaches were breathing and not stressing for a change
Ok that part I made up, no stress from coaches would just be strange
UConn and Carolina were snuggled away in bed
While visions of John Wall’s domination danced in their head
And Oklahoma all nestled in the Big 12 pack
Hoping and wishing that Blake Griffin would come back
It’s been quite a while since the Pac-10 didn’t matter
But underachieving Cal and struggling UCLA hardly raise a clatter
All they can do is look up and tip their cap
At 7-4 USC who has bested them so far, despite playing like crap
And down in the South as we all know
Kentucky is back and their fans are aglow
While in Mississippi State what might appear?
Bulldog fans are hoping Renardo Sidney will soon be here
Evan Turners season was interrupted all too quick
And Michigan’s subpar play has Wolverine fans feeling sick
Kansas is one and Texas is two
If you disagree with those choices I don’t really want to talk to you
The Big East is good, check that, really good once more
Syracuse, West Virginia, Villanova and Connecticut is quite the fearsome four
And Seton Hall and St. John’s are surprisingly strong
You can never keep those New York area teams down for very long
Luke Harangody is once again among the country’s leaders in scoring
The guy just gets the job done, even if his game is boring
Xavier Henry is so underrated it’s sad
I know there’s that talented freshman in Lexington, but this guy ain’t half bad
The Missouri Valley and Mountain West are looking incredibly strong
Denying these leagues multiple bids won’t keep the NCAA Tournament selection committee in business for long
That last line was wordy, so for that my bad
But it’ll be another March Madness without Billy Packer this year, so let’s be glad!
Saint Mary’s is good, Gonzaga is struggling
Not seeing the Zags on top out west would be most puzzling
But let’s be honest, let’s be frank
Save for a few, most teams out west stink (at least this year anyway)
2010 is almost here, it’s fast approaching
Which means conference play is ready to really get rolling
Carolina/Duke is just 48 days away
But for my money this year, I’ll take Texas/Kansas 48 hours prior any day
It’s been a great first six weeks, with many more to come
The new year will be better for others, more so than for some
But for this day now, teams will break from their struggle and quell their fight
