Royce White Leaving Gophers

Prized Minnesota freshman Royce White says he’s leaving college basketball. He was suspended indefinitely from the team while police were investigating the theft of a laptop. White says he’s innocent, but “can’t wait for the justice system to go in the right direction anymore.” White states that has no plans to transfer and that “[Minneapolis] is my city.” The 6-8 forward made the announcement this morning by releasing this YouTube video:

    This is a little contrived with the intros and outros, but it’s a good look on his part. I have a feeling his announcement is either a hasty decision that could be overturned, or it’s a sincere decision that will lead to his going to the D-League or becoming immediately eligible at a nearby junior school this season. In short, he’ll return to the Golden Gophers this season, or wing it somewhere else go to the NBA Draft.
