Larry Brown Helping Calipari At Kentucky Practices

It will be interesting to see if Brown’s role develops at UK. For now, it’s just ‘another set of eyes,’ according to Coach Cal. From the Lexington Herald-Ledger: “Hall of Famer Larry Brown, whom Kentucky Coach John Calipari called a friend and mentor, has attended UK practices this week. He’ll be at Saturday’s game against Georgia. But not sitting on the bench, Calipari said. The UK coach found it difficult to believe Brown would agree to do the ‘Y’ in the K-E-N-T-U-C-K-Y cheer. ‘I don’t know if he’ll do that,’ Calipari said. ‘He’s such a Carolina guy. He’s wearing Kentucky gear, though.’ Brown, who parted ways with the Charlotte Bobcats earlier this NBA season, is serving as another set of eyes ‘to maybe throw me some ideas we haven’t thought of,’ Calipari said. ‘I just like he’s here. I like hanging around him. I’m more relaxed.’

naw but forget the cynicism this is probably the best fit for him. I don’t think he’s ready for any level of coaching again. Its obvious he still loves teaching the game though, so this will be a great fit for both him and the guys at UK

I guess Kentucky is not playing the right way.

Phil jacksons replacement getting warmed up

  • rich

this is good this way the players dont get sick of him and demand he be fired like what happens everywhere he goes. he improves a team, then they get sick of him and he leaves

Give him two months and he’ll start angling to help another coach elsewhere.

@Hossy that would be Brian Shaw, and my dude is definitely warmed up and ready. Larry Brown can’t handle coaching basketball anymore

Calipari needs help in coaching period. Dude got some issues with his players and I think Larry could help him there.

@Black Rick Kamla, Larry is still one of the greatest basketball minds EVER, regardless of age. and if phil’s hip wasn’t robotic he would probably be keen to coach well past 70. look at nellie for gods sake the warriors had to chase him out with promises of hawiian condos and thai ho0kers. but i will agree with you that the other logical choice would be bshaw as he is a former laker who played under and now has coached the triangle… but no head coaching experience. can he handle all the egos on LA without phils zen effect? Kobe is a handful for anybody, and don’t get started on Ron. what do you think about kurt rhambis? he can’t like minny THAT much. or even nate macmillan?
