Coach K: Kyrie Irving To Play in NCAA Tournament Opener

Reports say the talented Duke freshman will receive around 15 minutes off the bench in his Tourney debut. From the AP: “Injured point guard Kyrie Irving will be back on the court for No. 1 seeded Duke’s NCAA tournament opener. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said at his news conference Thursday that Irving will not start and will play “limited minutes” during the Blue Devils’ West Regional game against the 16th-seeded Pirates. ‘ don’t have a set number of minutes,’ Krzyzewski said. ‘We want to play the way we’ve been playing and integrate him into what we’re doing.’”

    Happy for him

Not sure what the extent of his injuries are/were or how much they’ve healed.
On the one hand, kinda nice since this will probably be his only season in college.
On the other, not so nice if he’s coming back too soon and his jeopardizing his future NBA career.

Yeah, I hope he really is healthy…no sense rushing back and jeopardizing his career.

Put the rest of the tournament field on notice, it’s on now! Repeat!

Just in time for everyone to be too late to change their brackets…touche coach k…touche…

I heard rumors on Monday so I adjusted my brackets accordingly but it’s legit now.
Ayo.. imagine Kyrie Irving coming in off the bench and scorching other teams when they’re winded. SMH…

This is kinda how my Philly 76ers play ball these days. Their second unit burns other teams second unit and can occasionally outscore other teams starters. (not often but at key points in the game)

Hope Kyrie stays healthy throughout the NCAA tournament. RealTalk

This just in: Bracket changes Nationwide have been made at a record breaking rate

This could hurt his stock if he doesn’t impress in pressure situations. High-risk, High-reward decision in my opinion.

Either way, Duke is stil going to the Final Four w/or w/out him. Personally, I think this bad for team chemistry and rotations. Where does he fit in?

While that’s great in theory…they didn’t. The tournament can be kind of random at times, yet it tests the will of teams in post season play. Seth Curry only played 9 minutes against Arizona, which is puzzling. Derrick Williams was a manchild against Duke, putting forth 32 points and 13 rebounds, as he was beastly. My Top 10 for 2011: 1) Derrick Williams. 2) Kyrie Irving 3) Jared Sullinger 4) Kemba Walker 5) Brandon Knight. Irving is a great prospect, can’t hate on his skills. He can score, shoot, pass, rebound, handle the ball and defend, he just may need a full year to run the point so he can work on leading his team to the title. But Kyrie is a straight up playa.

No love for Harrison Barnes? He dropped 40 in the ACC Tournament, is 6-8, can shoot, pass, handle the rock and defend, and is only a freshman! And how about Enes Kanter? He beasted Sullinger at Hoops Summit, though he hasn’t played this season. But Kyrie is real good, as he’s fun to watch in college, my top player, and he’ll be great once he gets to the NBA.
