Coach K Being Internally Investigated For Recruiting Violation

After reportedly making a scholarship offer to Class of 2012 forward Alex Poythress, Coach K is being investigated by Duke University for possibly breaking some recruiting rules. Via CBS: “Duke is investigating whether an NCAA recruiting rule was violated when coach Mike Krzyzewski reportedly offered a scholarship to a recruit during a summer tournament. Forward Alex Poythress told CBSSports.com that Krzyzewski spoke to him earlier this week while he was in Orlando, Fla., for a tournament with his AAU team, the Georgia Stars, and offered him a scholarship. NCAA rules prevent coaches from contacting recruits before they are finished playing in tournaments. Duke spokesman Jon Jackson said in a statement Saturday that the school is gathering facts and that ‘proper adherence to NCAA bylaws has always been, and will continue to be, a cornerstone of Duke Athletics.’ Poythress is a 6-foot-7 forward from Clarksville, Tenn. He is considered one of the nation’s top high school seniors.”

The NCAA’s crazy. Me typing this comment is probably a recruiting violation somehow…

I really hope this isn’t true. As much as I dispise Duke, I really like and respect coach K. It would be a gr8 dissapointment.

You really think, after all these years, that K would break the rules by offering a scholarship during a dead time? Trust me, IF he ever gets caught for something, this ain’t it. And if it is, is the violation that big of a deal? So he offered a scholarship in a dead period. No money, cars, jewelry, or promises of such were exchanged. Not even a big deal. At all.

@duke yeah i know you right yo!! Yea or nay its no biggie.

It would b a dissapointment if this were just the “tip of the iceberg”. This is how many programs get major sanctions if there is more 2 this, therefore the investigation. I just hope that isn’t the case here.

Get real people. You dont win year in year out without playing dirty pool. Corey Maggette was driving a 50k+ car on campus as a frosh.

Coach K hides behind some unwritten moral standard at Duke when in reality he’s as crooked as they come. The media praises him like a god so he gets away with murder. This scandal is just one of many infractions by Krzyzewski

I…find it a bit surprising. But for real, I really think the NCAA recruiting rules are a bunch of BS. Some are good, like changing SAT scores (cough Cal cough) but others are stupid (like the limiting of phone calls to a recruit per month). That being said, you would think Coach K would know the rules front and back.

NCAA coaches are like politicians, the dirt on their hands are proportional to their time in the game.

This isn’t murder. If he did do this, it will cost them maybe a scholarship next season, that’s about it. — I hate Duke, but there is no reason to think Coach K is breaking any rules, definitely not a regular basis. His recruiting is easy, he doesn’t need to cheat to compete like the Tennessee’s & Indiana’s, kids want to go to Duke.
