Shawn Kemp Jr Signs with Washington

After having committed to play for Alabama in 2009 and Auburn in 2010, but failing to follow through because of academic issues, Shawn Kemp Jr, the son of former six-time NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp, will now be looking to finally kick off his college basketball career at Washington after the 6-10 forward signed with the Huskies program on Thursday. From the Seattle Times: “The Washington Huskies added Shawn Kemp Jr., who is the eldest son of legendary Sonic Shawn Kemp. The younger Kemp, a 6-10 forward, signed a financial aid agreement and completes the class of 2011, which includes: guards Tony Wroten Jr., Hikeem Stewart and Andrew Andrews and forwards Jernard Jarreau and Martin Breunig. Coach Lorenzo Romar said all six incoming freshmen are currently enrolled in summer classes at UW. “He’s got good size,” Romar said of Kemp. “He’s a very good athlete. He can run the floor. He’s the type of player that plays above the rim. He’s a real good defender.”

I was thinking the same thing when I read the names. So funny. Andrew Andrews?jannue what? Sorry guys, but it is what it is. Shawn Kemp jr. Sounds equally as huge as his father. Why haven’t we heard of him earlier? Probably just a good player, not McDonalds all American good. I’m interested to see what next college hoops season has in store.

He sure is a big kid. His Dad has only been working with him for a few years. I saw highlights of him when he was 14-15, I assume he gotten considerably better.

This isn’t the first we have heard of Shawn Kemp Jr. He was an alternate in the 2009 McDonald’s All-American game. This kid can play, I’m looking forward to finally seeing him in a college game.

Shawn Kemp Sr. has enough kids to make-up an entire team/coaching staff/ and fans.. I’d like to see the Klumps (oops, Kemps) play against the (Larry) Johnsons.. All jokes aside, is he gonna be the next Patrick Ewing Jr.?

One of his 54 kids. Good size though. Hope he can ball like his dad. Especially since he seems to have the same academic problems as him too.

If your dad is a player like Kemp, Ewing or MJ you’ll probably be an average player at best. If your dad was an average player maybe you’ll be like Kobe or S Curry and be an excellent player.

Never gonna be anything big but he should help the huskies out. It’s cool that he’s Seattle when his dad played in Seattle too! Let’s go Huskies.

The UW recruits does have some of the best names. Andrew Andrews could be a hidden gem. Dropped 31 with on NBA range 3 during Oregon-Washington high school all star game. Really under the radar recruit. Will be the 3rd string Point Guard after Abdul Gaddy and Tony Wroten Jr. UW will have 3 pure point guards on the team. Jernard Jarreau is a Cajun boy, a 6’10″ kid who handles the ball like a guard and 3 shooting range.
