Andre Drummond Is Headed to UConn

by Ryne Nelson

If the handfuls of returning Lottery-level stars wasn’t enough, here’s news that will make the NCAA basketball scene even more bright in ’11-12.

Top recruit Andre Drummond announced Friday on Twitter that he will be playing for defending national champion Connecticut next season.

The 6-10, 275-pound center announced two weeks ago that he would attend prep school this season. Considered the top big man in the country, Drummond was suspected to skip the college ranks entirely to enter the 2012 NBA Draft (in which his stock couldn’t be much higher).

But the nation’s top big man apparently has experienced a sudden change of heart.

What does the addition of Drummond mean for the defending NCAA Champs? In addition to adding tremendous power and flexibility in the frontcourt, Drummond gives UConn a legit shot this season for another championship ring.

I’ll believe it when I see it.
Still think he’s going straight for the draft.

I’ll believe it when I see it too. However, if this goes through, UCONN will be the team to beat. Andre Drummond currently ranked first on nbadraft.net.

@Neitel, Brandon Jennings didn’t go to college, neither did Jeremy Tyler for that matter =P

@add: That’s how Steve Francis broke into the national radar. I wonder how he will attend, UCONN doesn’t have any scholarships.

Stern said you have to be at least 1 year removed from high school, i.e. Be 19 years of age to enter the NBA draft. Its up to the player if he wants to go to college for a year, or go to europe for a year.

A year in prep school fulfills the one year removed from graduation requirement as well, which is what Drummond was expected to do until this week.
