A-10 Tourney to Move to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center

Yesterday, SLAM received a media advisory from the Atlantic 10 Conference about a “Major Announcement” to be made at a press conference on Wednesday, September 28 at 12:30 pm at the Barclays Center Showroom in the New York Times Building. And now reports and sources are claiming that tomorrow’s event will be the official announcement of the A-10 Conference championship move to the future home of the Nets, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The news comes almost two weeks after the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which had been held at Madison Square Garden since 1998, also announced its move to the Brooklyn arena beginning in 2012. The A-10 will start hosting the tourney in their new home in 2013. Despite being a year away from its grand opening, we can all agree that the Nets are going all out in making sure that, from its inception, their new arena delivers to Brooklyn. From Forbes: “The Atlantic 10 will move its basketball tournament to Brooklyn, beginning in 2013. The conference will host its championship in the new Barclays Center, which will also be home to the NBA’s Nets. The Atlantic 10 has long searched for a steady tournament destination without much success. Since the first one in 1977, it has been held in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Morgantown, W. Va., East Rutherford, N.J., and Dayton, Ohio, among other sites. The last five years, it has been held in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. It will also be held there in 2012.”
