West Virginia Sues Big East Conference

The mass exodus in the Big East continues and West Virgina is the next school looking to relocate. But the Mountaineers don’t just want to leave the conference in 27 months when their contract with the Big East allows them to — they want to leave ASAP.  And so they’ve filed a civil lawsuit against the conference, looking to get an immediate release so it could join the Big 12 Conference next season. From the NY Times: “West Virginia filed a lawsuit Monday seeking an immediate divorce from the Big East so it can become a member of the Big 12 before the next football season. The Big 12 announced West Virginia’s acceptance Friday, but the Big East said it would hold the Mountaineers to a provision in the conference bylaws that requires 27 months’ notice before a member can withdraw. West Virginia’s suit asks Monongalia County Circuit Court to declare the bylaws invalid, saying the Big East breached its fiduciary duty by failing to maintain a balance between football-playing and nonfootball members. The suit also alleges that the Big East agreed to West Virginia’s immediate withdrawal by accepting a $2.5 million down payment on its $5 million exit fee.”

Is that the Big 12 that has 10 members, or are y’all confusing it for the Big 10, which has 12 members?

West Virginia in the Big 12 is so geographically wrong. Man, does college basketball have any pull or say in all of this re-alignments?

@Kevin absolutely NONE! I love college footbal….but, I HATE IT!!! EWWWW I HATE THE NCAA, particularly the college football side of the spectrum…..These guys care about nothing else then their money; we’re dealing with kids and their futures, and the decisions they’ve made regaurding their collegiate athletics and the only thing these cats can even think about is their money. Then you compound that with just how ruthlessly they attack any player that even smells like he’s deposited a check recently…its mind boggling. Guys get suspended multiple games for selling their jerseys (AJ Green was suspended for 5 games for auctioning his jersey for charity), Terrelle Pryor was run out of school because he got free tattoos and got a good deal at a Nissan dealership on a darn last gen Z….ughhhhh….The hypocrisy is maddening. I know some of yall cats out there aren’t to hot on the slave-and-master references thrown around about such issues, and I’m usually on your side, but I’m convinced these CFB NCAA cats sit up in their offices studying Willie Lynch or something. Like I said, love college football just hard to even support it sometimes.

It’s sad to see the Big East get divided up, but it is what it is. Syracuse and Pitt made smart moves joining the ACC.
