Report: Rhode Island to Hire Danny Hurley

After only two seasons at Wagner College, head coach Danny Hurley has accepted the head coaching position at the University of Rhode Island. His brother and head assistant, Bobby, will most likely also move on to URI. SILive has the details: “After a week of struggling with the decision to leave Grymes Hill, an emotional Hurley met with team members and staff this morning to tell them he would be taking the six-year deal at URI, which could potentially pay the 39-year-old more than $4 million. It is believed that Hurley’s brother and top assistant, Bobby, will also move on to URI. Wagner finished this season 25-6, an enormous turnaround just 24 months after going 5-26 in 2009-10. The Hurley name and the family connections throughout the national basketball community also brought the Seahawk program an infusion of well-regarded recruits, the most high-profile being 2011 Mr. Michigan Basketball, Dwaun Anderson, who enrolled at Wagner in December after leaving Big 10 powerhouse Michigan State University at the beginning of his first college semester in August. In two years at Wagner, Hurley compiled a record of 38-23 and 24-12 in Northeast Conference regular-season play. Hurley, the son of high school coaching icon and Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Bob Hurley Sr., arrived on Grymes Hill from St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) as untested at the college coaching levels.”

URI has just hired a proven winner. The Danny & Bobby Hurley show will prove to be a stellar hire. These two only know one thing and that is how to win. Congradulations to both the school and to Danny & Bobby.
