UNLV Lands Anthony Bennett

After weeks of speculation, Anthony Bennett, the remaining top ranked unsigned recruit in the class of 2012, announced over the weekend through Twitter that he will be attending UNLV in the fall. The 6-8 forward chose the Rebels over Oregon–after having also considered Kentucky and Florida a few days prior. On Tuesday, Amile Jefferson from Friends Central (PA), the next highly ranked unsigned senior for the 2012 class is expected to make his college announcement. From the Las Vegas Sun: “This offseason, there will be no controlling expectations. UNLV, it appears, is back in full. Anthony Bennett, the No. 7-rated recruit in the country according to Rivals.com, made a verbal commitment Saturday after trimming his list to UNLV and Oregon last weekend. A 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward from Henderson’s Findlay Prep, Bennett fills the Rebels’ most glaring hole at power forward and adds even higher expectations for a team that will likely start the 2012-13 season in the top 20, if not the top 10. “Staying out West & will be going to #UNLV next yr .. Appreciate everyone that supported me through all this,” Bennett tweeted Saturday afternoon. Last weekend he cut Florida and Kentucky from his list of schools. Bennett is the highest-rated prospect to choose UNLV since Larry Johnson and is the second McDonald’s All-American to pick the Rebels in the past six months, joining fellow Canadian and former AAU teammate Khem Birch.”

Him eliminating Kentucky and choosing UNLV is just plain stupid.

^ Sigh. Think. Which team is stacked and will feature rigorous competition for playing time?

Or did you think he was looking for a school with rigorous academics and a chance at multiple NCAA titles?

How do they have a “glaring hole” at power forward? Mike Moser is returning next season…

Bennett wanted to play on a team on the rise, not some miami heat team of ncaa that just wins championships. Bennett has the potential to be a new age larry johnson, the entire unlv team is made up of players who have heart and determination…not egos and taking the easy way out by playing for the likes of a UK. And I’m a Tarheels fan and i cant stand unlv…but even i respect them and their players for giving it their all. Bennett is a class act, showed why he will be better in the pros.

anthony bennett did what felt right for him, as a young adult. good for him. i hate when people project their own rationale on kids.
