Head Coach Frank Haith Leaves Missouri for Tulsa

It’s rare that a coach goes from a major conference school to a mid-major without first getting fired. But that’s exactly what Frank Haith is doing.

Haith will leave Missouri after agreeing to a deal with Tulsa today. It is reportedly worth seven years and an average of $1.85 million a year.

After accruing a 129-101 record at Miami from 2004-2011, Haith agreed to coach the Tigers and immediately saw success. He went 30-5 in his first year, and racked up a 76-28 record during his three years in Columbia.

“I loved Missouri. I had a great experience there. I did not have to leave Missouri,” Haith said.

About two hours earlier, Missouri athletic director Mike Alden confirmed Haith’s move and said MU assistant Tim Fuller would serve as interim coach.

Alden called Fuller “a heckuva basketball coach” but wouldn’t reveal his candidates to permanently replace Haith.

The worst part about Haith’s departure? He reportedly told Alden he took the Tulsa job via a text message. Ouch.
