The Next Big Thing?

Greg Oden convinced us he would be it.

Looking like Shaq after a typically monstrous throwdown, Greg Oden had fans and scouts foaming at the mouth throughout his high school days. A few injury plagued seasons removed from rocking a Roundball Classic jersey, many now doubt the former OSU standout’s ability to stay on the court—let alone that he’ll have a Shaq-like impact on the league. Here’s to hoping we get to see GO do this for the next decade plus.—Adam Fleischer

I remember this picture. This was the first time I heard about him. I’ve been on his bandwagon and haven’t jumped off ever since.

He still looks old though… And very ugly. How sure are we that this isnt Bill Russell shaved?

Maybe he has Benjamin Button disease…

    That’s original, wayno. ;)

I seriously need to stop makin excuses up for this guy.

If anyone, G.O. deserves his excuses, though.

Common GO, I’ve rooting for you since you went down with your first injury!

The humor in this picture is him hangin onto the rim as if he knew 4 years later he would be hangin on for his basketball career.

My bad Ryne…I’m not on here enough to know that one was already used…lol

I love Gred Oden. Here’s hoping he backs up his word.

    oh that Gred…

I really believed in this guy. Damn. Still hoping he could have multiple years of 12/10/2.5, but the injuries have really robbed him of his explosiveness.

    The next Big Bust?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Greg looked great in college. Too bad that doesn’t always translate to the NBA *cough* Christian Laettner (did I spell that right?) *cough*

  • rob

Teddy what are u talking about laettner at least had a long career and put up numbers like 18-20 with 10 boards for a couple seasons from my memory.. He wasn’t great but he wasn’t a total bust or anything!

ps I cannot believe I just stood up for laetner…

    Yep the next big injury

  • Jose

NO.he cant be a bust.he hasnt really got the chance to improve cuz of injury. All he needs is to be healthy and hell progress.im on tha GO bandwagon too.Cmon Greg!

  • knock knock

Please, this guy wasn’t dominate in college, ONLY in the championship game (where they lost). Then 2 injury plagued seasons in the nba where he doesn’t dominate anything like shaq even when he plays. Because of injury or because he’s finally playing against other 7′ footers? G.O. is garbage, and slam sucks his balls as much as they do lebron. Neither will win any championship as an anchor.

  • http://www.blogs.myspace.com/originadro Witness

Knock Knock obviously took offense to the Laettner comments above.

he is ovah! greg oden, thank you for stopping by the nba, hope you enjoy the next two seasons, cuz thats all you got left. i knew you were a no offense, dunk only, gimpy old man of a scrub but damn, you cant even give us a decent half season. too bad portland didnt draft durant, that would have been amazing. ghostface pryzbilla is 50x the nba player greg oden will ever be.

  • tavoris

Tarzan: Pryzbilla is not 50x better than G.O

  • tavoris

He is more like 10x better

  • Simmy Sosa

He’s giving Kwame and Kandi-man a run for biggest draft bust fa sho…

  • Felix

ghostface pryzbilla? that is an excellent nickname

  • Yesse

Well, i disagree (so far…).Oden can become good if he just works hard, but so far he has not been good.

  • C-Mac

I still think GO can become one of the better big men in the league. maybe not a franchise player but no scrub

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

    im a semi fan.
im a fan of portland thats foh sho.
i really hope he is the next big deal.
    but my mans batum!
someone get a pic of him up!

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

its a wrap, oden is a dead fish

  • riggs

what did yao do his first 2 seasons (serious question i cant seem to remember)

  • Orlando Green

If he doesn’t pull out a good season…biggest bust ever!!

Somewhere Kwame Brown is hoping for GO to have another injured/bad season….

From what I have heard, Oden has great talent, but I have not seen anything. From the couple of games I have seen, he is very unpolished in the post. With his size, he needs to develop a post-up game with left and right hand jump hooks.
