SLAM Fresh 50 – 2012

Got bigs?

by Rodger Bohn / @rodgerbohn

While the Class of 2011 is loaded with swingmen, the Class of 2012 could be characterized as “the year of the big man.” Very rarely have we seen a class so dominated with legit posts. Eleven of the top 16 in the Fresh 50 do the bulk of their damage in the paint.  The class rocks a couple of really nice wings who can get buckets in a hurry, but severely lacks in terms of elite point guards. That said, here’s a look at our post AAU circuit Fresh 50 in a class loaded with trees.

Rank Name Height Position School Why?
1 Andre Drummond 6-11 C St. Thomas More (CT) Possesses incredibly rare combination of size, skill, and power.

Drummond is just a massive person. Walked by him once last year before he had a national name that reached me, and i was just like damn! And Birch stood out amongst Seniors and PGs last year, I’m interested in how much damage he’ll do in the next two.

We need more Cali players on this list…. Where’s Gabe York at??, also Where’s Xavier Johnson….can’t wait for Jan. 7th when Xavier’s Mater Dei team, plays Gabe York’s Orange Lutheran Team. Mater Dei has another impressive squad with Xavier Johnson and Fab Freshmen, Stanley Johnson and Shaqquan Aaron and Orange Lutheran is lead by Gabe York, NAU signee James Douglas and Super Sophmore Payton Banks, who was just offered by USC….Should be some great games. MD has owned O-Lu the last 2 years, but the next 2 years should be a lot closer.
