American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk Rosters Released

While the McDonald’s All-American Dunk Contest has came and gone, our friends at InterSport have released the rosters for the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships in New Orleans. The field is far more loaded than they offered at Mickey D’s, and SLAM’s own Dave Spahn will be providing coverage of all of the action.

[March 26, 2012] CHICAGO – The second annual American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will be held at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, March 30, in New Orleans. This year’s event will take place at the Alario Center, located at 2000 Segnette Boulevard, Westwego, La., 70994. A limited number of complimentary screening passes are available for the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. Screening passes may be requested by visiting HighSchoolSlamTix.com. Screening passes do not guarantee admission, and seating will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for those with screening passes only.

“American Family Insurance is proud of the way these young men and women have pursued their dreams, both on and far above the basketball court,” said Annette Knapstein, American Family Insurance vice president of marketing. “And it’s not just the athletes. The communities really came through in supporting their players. We’re looking forward to the competitions, and to seeing where their dreams take them in the long run.”

The 24 competitors in the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships include:

* Winner of Facebook voting competition

The final three roster spots in each contest were filled via Facebook fan voting. The Facebook campaign featured 48 high school seniors – 16 competitors in each category – who uploaded YouTube videos to the official Facebook page and were then hand-selected as bracket contestants. Each week for four weeks, the contestants competed in a bracket-style knockout competition. Half the field advanced to the next round after a week of voting until, ultimately, the dunker, men’s 3-point shooter and women’s 3-point shooter with the most votes remained. Now, these fan-selected contestants will test their skills against some of the nation’s top college recruits. To find out more about the Facebook competition, visit: (facebook.com/HighSchoolSlam).

Alumni of the event include Oklahoma State’s Cezar Guerrero, Texas’ Sheldon McClellan, UConn’s DeAndre Daniels and Wake Forest’s Chase Fischer.

The American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships is scheduled to air Sunday, April 1, at 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The broadcast team includes Tim Brando, Bill Raftery and Lewis Johnson, as well as reports from expert analyst Chris Stonebraker of MaxPreps. JP Tokoto will give Johnson a run for his money. He can do every dunk Johnson can do and more.

I also think that it will come down to Shaq and JP. Its already a light battle on you tube of theses two dudes going head to head. In that video I give the edge to JP. You can tell Shaq didn’t give a full effort after a while but I think that had a lot to do with JP making everything look so easy. He really has Vince Carter type hops. It’s going to be a pleasure to watch them go at for real though.
