Not a bad group of players at all; it should be funner to watch than the NBA ASG.

what about jamal fenton? chvez high school in houston texas.

  • Jakob Kagel

Lance Stephenson is a forward? Hmm, always considered him a combo guard.

  • justin

Love how they left John Wall off this

justin, John Wall is ineligible. 5th year players are not eligible to be McDonalds All-Americans. Jordan Hamilton was also not on the list because of the 5th year rule in the selection criteria bylaws.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Cot dammit, Oklahoma is raiding Texas cupboard in hoops now too?! Jeff CApel is doing his damn thing.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Stephenson is a 2 or 3, maybe thats what you meant by “combo guard”, but he’s definitely not a point in any sesne of the word.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Hey Walsh, why are John Wall and Jordan Hamilton 5th years HS seniors anyway? Academic issues?

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Haha, Oklahoma has always had a penchant for that. In fact, a study was done recently by the Dallas Morning News that more Dallas area kids go to Oklahoma now than UT straight out of HS because “Oklahoma really cares about you, whereas UT mails it in” Now, that only speaks for students, not student athletes, but still. Also, I’m going to quickly mention the biggest snub not on this list (that hasn’t already been spoken for. Jordan Hamilton & John Wall have been mentioned already in length by me) is Daniel Orton.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

ciolkstar, Lance is a SG, not a 3 at all. Also, John Wall is a 5th year senior because he is in his fifth year of HS at a prep school. Jordan Hamilton’s case, I went into DEEP detail about his situation, but here’s the skinny for you- Jordan started HS at age 13 and his father held him back for academic reasons. Here’s the feature I did on him recently about it (it’s also an interview)

ciolkstar, my comment is in moderation because of a link, so I’ll repeat part of it so you know. Lance is a SG, not a 3 at all. Also, John Wall is a 5th year senior because he is in his fifth year of HS at a prep school. Jordan Hamilton’s case, I went into DEEP detail about his situation, but here’s the skinny for you- Jordan started HS at age 13 and his father held him back for academic reasons.

and the link in moderation is the interview/feature I did with Jordan Hamilton about the whole situation so whenever Ryne gets back from lunch and lets this comment through, haha click the link and read up to get educated on it all. It’ll be at Feb.19 @ 12:14 pm

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

ciolkstar, the link is up, check it out.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

just clicked it now, thanks Walsh

  • http://fdklsf.com Jukai

Lance is taking MVP, bank t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

Jukai, as of this moment, I have no arguments on that thought. ciolkstar, let me know what you think!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

That was a good read, Hamilton really sounds like a smart, focused kid. I hope he gets eligibilty before the end of the season, but either way we will welcome him to UT with open arms. I love that his game is so polished already. He has some raw talent, but the smoothness and maturity of his game is what really strikes me.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I gotta admit that I’ve never been overly impressed with Stephenson. He’s very strong and can score the ball when he’s hot but I’m not sure if he’ll be a bigtime pro.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

cstar, thanks. Yeah, he’s a great guy. He’s going to showcase his talent at the Jordan Brand Classic regardless. He’s also got a ridiculous sense of humor by the way. And for the record his final appeal goes to the CIF state level in the next few days, if he gets his way, his dominguez team will have him back & beat Mater Dei. Yes, I said it. Beat Mater Dei. Jordan told me if he got to play Mater Dei, he’d channel all the hardship of the CIF issue and his rivalry with MD and hang 40 on em. Jordan Hamilton: PAUL PIERCE THE SECOND! haha

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

cstar, i dont know about his pro game yet, but as of right now he’s the best pure scorer in the country. the best players are Xavier Henry, Renardo Sidney, Derrick Favors, Jordan Hamilton, Lance then John Wall. THat’s my list in order of the top 6 ballplayers.

  • Billions

I thought DeMarus Cousins signed with UAB….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

nope. he WAS committed. you know what he asked for? He said that if Mike Davis gets fired or leaves, he will be let out of his LOI. UAB declined, Cousins de-committed, and now he has many schools on his list (UAB is not one of them) including a darkhorse, Kansas State.

  • dubya816

Why are the Wear twins on this? I’m sorry but I can think of a few other players who are more talented and deserve it. Maybe they are for the sake of height I dunno but they don’t seem like legit players to me.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

dubya, on the low, they don’t deserve the slot. I can think of two big men off the top of my head who deserve the spot, even if you keep Wall and Hamilton ineligible to play. Daniel Orton & Mouphtao Yarou. Personally, I say screw the fifth year rule and just let John Wall and Jordan Hamilton in the game. They let Gerald Green, Bill Walker & OJ Mayo play…All of a sudden they get iffy about it?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I’m pretty sure I take John Wall over Stepheson and never look back.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

john wall long term=probably more potential than Lance. Right now and in the next 2-3 years? LANCE.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    One from Lowell! Whoo!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

If I needed a pure scorer who could give me 20 as a freshman, you’re right on Stepheson. But just look at the success Westbrook had at UCLA and in OKC. I felt like he outplyed Collison from the jump. I’m not sure if I think Stepheson will be as good as OJ Mayo(or even Eric Gordon). It may have something to do with the fact that I’ve been seeing and hearing about Stepheson for so long that I’m starting to tire of the “hype”. While John wall has really burst onto the scene more recently.

  • YAY AREA’S FINEST

bill walker didnt play in the mcdonalds game… jordan hamilton couldnt possibly play because he hasnt played a game all year… sam thing for daniel orton, he has been hurt and missed a large chunk of the season, something that eliminates him from consideration from mcdonalds… LOL @ taking lance over wall, there isnt a coach in the country who would

  • Diggy

Lance is the truth! He is going to prove it cause he is tired of all the haters…

  • http://myspace.com/yungjames187 Smoovetendo

lance is still undecided? i think he’s goin overseas

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

He should, he’s not getting a degree anytime soon. No offense, but I don’t think that’s his priority (which is cool). Go get that gwap!

  • j spenc

How can this list of players be the best players when the nation’s leading scorer is left off the all-star list. his name is John Jenkins from Gallatin, TN, he averages 42 points a game and shoots 68% from the floor and 48% from 3pt land. Who is on this list of players doing it like that, tell me please.

  • http://fdklsf.com Jukai

Justin, c’mon man… Hamilton over Lance and Walls? Derrick Favors? Can you explain why? I mean, I’m not a Favors fan (I think his potential is overshadowing his actual abilities) but Hamilton’s game just ain’t there. I don’t know.
Also, I believe Lance is going to opt for college as he’s been notably concerned with the news coming from the Brandon Jennings’ camp.

  • http://fdklsf.com Jukai

That being said, Xavier Henry will be my most likely pick for 2010 number 1 draft pick (if Rubio doesn’t take it, that is).

  • scott

Just my opinion but the top seniors are:

    1. John Wall
    2. Xavier Henry
    3. Derrick Favors
    4. DeMarcus Cousins

Those four probably have the most NBA potential. Not so sure how good Hamilton, Stephenson and Sidney will do in the League.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Justin Walsh

Jukai, I take Hamilton over Lance because he is a better all around player. I take Hamilton over Wall because I haven’t jumped aboard the huge Wall bandwagon completely- he needs a jumper badly. Rivals WAY overrated Wall. Xavier Henry IS the best player in the country, that kid is loaded. Scott…In most NBA potential I agree except for Cousins. Sidney does everything Demarcus Cousins does only much better.

  • Prentice Mcgruder

John Jenkins will be the top scoring freshman in the country next year.

  • YAY AREA’S FINEST

why is wall overated? remember you sed that after he does one year in college and is a top 5 pick… was demar overrated? he hasnt fared that well in college? rivals had him #2

  • scott

@Justin… From what you read Sidney seems to not have his priorities straight. I hope he doesn’t turn into another Derrick Catcher (spelling might be off).

  • scott

Rivals had Greg Oden ahead of Kevin Durant. That goes to you show you right there that they mean nothing.

  • bigDre732

I followed lance ever since slam did the piece on him when he was a freshman… but this season evertime I see a game on tv 1. Linclon loses 2. He complains after every play 3. His bball i.q. Doesn’t look like its there at all times granted I kno the schedule isn’t his fault but the crying to the refs not gonna help you.

Anyway I’m a big tarheel fan can someone explain to me how Coach Williams doesn’t have john wall signed he’s in his own back yard

  • Big. O.

The best player at the McDonald’s game with be hometown hero: Kenny Boynton; he ruled the AUU circuit along with backcourt teammate Brandon Knight, and proved that when the occasion is the biggest he delivers like no other player can. Hands down the best senior in the 2009 class.

  • dukedolfan

Why wasn’t John Wall selected? He has a poor attitude, but dude can play.

  • Cizzo

Not interested as much as the previous years and Eff the 5 year rule put John Wall on display I don’t care if he’s 25 years old he is the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • john

i like how they left me out.lol

  • Quail

living in Kentucky, i gotta ask… where’s Daniel Orton at???
