Jordan Classic rosters announced

Just got the following press release from our friends at the JBAAC. Always a fun evening at MSG, and this year’s game boasts a typically great lineup of players. We must admit, however, that there does seem to a glaring absence…

Xavier Henry (Oklahoma City, OK/Memphis), Derrick Favors (Atlanta, GA/Georgia Tech), John Henson (Tampa, FL/North Carolina), DeMarcus Cousins (Mobile, AL/Undecided) and Renardo Sidney (Los Angeles, CA/Undecided) will headline the nation’s best 20 high school senior basketball players at the 2009 Jordan Brand Classic, presented by Foot Locker, at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m. EST. This year’s event will once again be televised nationally live on ESPN2.

The Jordan Brand Classic will also continue to include a regional game, showcasing the top prep players from the New York City metropolitan area in a City vs. Suburbs showdown. In its second year of the event, an International game will tip-off the tripleheader by featuring 16 of the top 17-and-under players from around the world. A portion of the proceeds benefit the New York City-based charity, The Children’s Aid Society.

In addition to Henry, Favors, Henson, Cousins and Sidney, the event will also include Kenny Boynton (Plantation, FL/Florida), Avery Bradley (Henderson, NV/Texas), Dominic Cheek (Jersey City, NJ/Villanova), Abdul Gaddy (Tacoma, WA/Washington), Keith Gallon (Mouth of Wilson, VA/Oklahoma), Jordan Hamilton (Compton, CA/Texas), Lamont Jones (Mouth of Wilson, VA/Virginia Tech), Wally Judge (Jacksonville, FL/Kansas State), Tommy Mason-Griffin (Houston, TX/Oklahoma), Alex Oriakhi (Tilton, NH/UConn), Daniel Orton (Oklahoma City, OK/Kentucky), Mason Plumlee (Arden, NC/Duke), Durand Scott (New York, NY/Miami-FL), John Wall (Raleigh, NC/Undecided) and Royce White (Minnetonka, MN/Minnesota).

‘In its seven year history, the Jordan Brand Classic has featured an incredible alumni list of current NBA stars,’ said Keith Houlemard, President of Jordan Brand. ‘The Jordan Brand is proud to once again showcase the future of basketball in the world’s most famous arena while benefiting a great cause in the Children’s Aid Society.’

This year’s event tripleheader will begin with an International Game at 3:30 p.m. followed by the Regional Game at 5:30 p.m., and the All-American Game at 8:00 p.m. The International and regional rosters will be announced at a later date.

The absence would be Lance Stephenson. Is he really not in this game? We’re trying to figure it out. It will still be a great game with a lot of exciting players, but not putting the best player in NYC in this game seems weird.

ya snubbing “born ready” is messed up but if id have to speculate the reason would have to be his altercation with that female student.

Ben, it might be about shoe deals. his team might be reebok. and if he expects to be in the mcdonalds game, he will probably play in the roundball classic as the second all star game instead of Jordan.

Yes! I can’t wait to attend this year’s Jordan Classic Game. I notice a few familiar names. I’m glad that undefeated team – Oak Hill Academy – has not only one, but two of their starters playing this year. Lance Stephenson isn’t on the team but everyone knows that even w/o the Jordan Classic he’s still an excellent player. April 18th I will be in MSG thrilled to see Class of 2009′s great talent.

I watched Lance Stepheson at the Prudential Center versus St.Benedict’s Prep. The kid is without any doubt is a five star recruit. He has a great body and is game and basketball IQ is ahead of anyone that I’ve watched this season including Trishian Thompson(St.Benedict’s Prep) Kyrie Irving(St.Pat’s), Michael Gilricsh(St.Pat’s) and D’Marcus Cousins…However, his weakness is his attitude…And, if Mr. Stepheson decides to act like that at the next level plating for coach Bill Self I see him playing himself out of the line-up…And his attitude and ego was what kepted him out from the Jordan Classic…Mr.Stephenson you are better off going to St.John’s because Bill Self has a very good team and does not need a kid like you to be a cancer on a team…But without any doubt Stephenson is probably the best player in the nation if not he’s in the Top5…

Royce White is the man. Lance wants nothing to do with Royce.

isn’t Marcus Jordan, u know MJ’s son, a senior this year? He’s supposed to be better than Jeff Jordan, and Jeff got to play in this game 2 years ago…

I think Air Jordan did Lance Stephenson a favor by not including him in the Classic. His Airness is not approving of his behavior. I hope Lance will now understand the value of character coming from his Airness. If he doesn’t listen to Michael and change his ways I don’t know what to tell you.
And please god, Lance, go to St. John’s – your home court will be Madison Square Garden where you made your fame. Stay close to home!
