Major Payne

Ohio standout inflicting hurt on opposing teams.

by Antonio Curro – Midwest PUNKS Editor

Ohio is loaded with talented prospects in the Class of 2010. The irony is most of them rock the same set during the spring and summer with the All-Ohio Grassroots power based out of Ohio. Ohio State-bound Jared Sullinger is a top-5 prospect, and 6-8 Adreian Payne of Jefferson Township HS in Dayton, Ohio is up there with him.

In addition to a lofty national ranking (NY2LASports ranks Payne No. 20 in the Class of 2010), Payne has a lethal physical package that drips with upside. The young interior talent has nice size, big-time length and decent explosion. Adreian PayneAdd solid court awareness as well as nice instincts, and it’s easy to see why a host of high-major programs are recruiting Payne.

His recruitment is a who’s who of big time programs: Ohio State, Maryland, West Virginia, Dayton, Xavier, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Indiana and Memphis. Payne’s list can only expand if he continues to put in the work both physically and skill-wise.

Adreian Payne competes for the All-Ohio Grassroots travel program based out of Ohio.

We’ll take him at Maryland thank you.

Payne is very close to his Grandmother and quite a few people feel that he will want to stay near her so she can easily travel to his games. Dayton and _avier could end up being his two finalists for this reason. Unfortunately, for those of us interested in his services, he is very, very tight lipped about his intentions.

I hear that he will take an official visit to Akron in conjunction with the King James Tournament at the Zips’ JAR Arena in April.

He is coming to Akron April 18th on an official visit and then returning the following weekend for the AAU tourny.

I hear that Mick Cronin in Cincinnati is recruiting him hard and could end up with the talented Dayton player. Dayton and Cincinnati are very close. The Big East is a MUCH better league than the A-10. We’ve got a good shot at Payne according to many publications.
