Corey Maggette won’t be a Clipper much longer

Losing PT to Doug Christie? Ouch.

By Sam Rubenstein

Last night, the recently signed Doug Christie took some of Corey Maggette’s minutes. Maggette was not happy about this. The quotes speak for themselves:

“It’s just more of Dunleavy’s [stuff] again. I don’t get it, I really don’t. It’s crazy. I put in work. I deserve to play.”

“It’s totally mind-boggling to me. [It's] unbelievable that I couldn’t help this team tonight. Why? Why?”

“Give me an excuse, give me something, just tell me something,” Maggette said. “I’m a grown man. I can take it.”

All valid points. Good luck Corey, wherever you end up. I’ve read that San Antonio was thinking about making a move, but I don’t know if that’s such a good fit. Does anyone have any idea where he’s going?

What about Cleveland. If he comes off the bench he gives them a true scoring option.

  • c1 Posted: Feb.7 at 1:58 pm
utah, for millsap, no 1, and somebody like giricek?

  • jake appleman Posted: Feb.7 at 2:06 pm
hmm…he seemed down in the locker room after the game last night. we should have gone and listened.

  • Bryant Reeves Posted: Feb.7 at 2:09 pm
Wow… If Maggette really wants to mess Doug up he should tell him that the Staples Centre is infested with owls - Once Jackie hears about that she’ll never let Doug play there again.

  • William Posted: Feb.7 at 2:17 pm
San Antonio would be a good fit as they need an athletic scorer on the roster. Bruce Bowen ain’t getting any younger. They would also love to find an athletic big man to play alongside Duncan. The ones they brought in over the summer were mostly junk, except for Oberto, which is quite decent.

Magette should shamelessly start hitting on Doug Christie’s husband Jackie. He could even call The Mailman for advice on what lines to use in such a situation..

  • Jonathan Posted: Feb.7 at 2:30 pm
don’t touch the jazz, they’re hot!.. not as hot as phoenix though, amare is the man. back to busniess, the jazz would be ruined, when boozer gets back they’re getting third or fourth seed.

  • Ethan Torres Posted: Feb.7 at 2:33 pm
It’s so obvious that Mike Dunleavy is racist and that’s why he won’t play Corey Maggette.

  • dez Posted: Feb.7 at 2:35 pm
doug christie does that ‘guesture to God’ thing after every shot he makes. and when he walks onto the floor. and when he picks his nose. he annoys me on some weird level.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Feb.7 at 2:38 pm
Has Corey Maggette even done anything this year except populate trade rumors?

  • Sam Rubenstein Posted: Feb.7 at 2:53 pm
Before the dress code, Maggette once wore a wife beater on the bench when he was on the inactive list. He gets a lifetime achievement award for that.

  • Cheryl Posted: Feb.7 at 2:59 pm
Sam, I always wanted to know this: why are tanks called “wife beaters”? School an old girl, will ya?

  • KMG Posted: Feb.7 at 2:59 pm
The League is filled with guys that play Magette’s position…I don’t see the Clips sending him to a playoff contender (provided they are willing to trade). He’ll most likely end up on a squad that’s in the midst of a rebuilding mode, or a team struggling to get the eighth spot in either conference. That tells me Maggette would end up in the East, where at least five or six teams are fighting for the last two playoff spots, as opposed to the West, where only the eighth spot is up for grabs.

  • DEVILb0y Posted: Feb.7 at 3:16 pm
magette will probably end up in boston or somewhere where the clips could get a draft pick or some young expendable players..the clippers are known as a team hat doesnt spend that much on players so they’d probably like young guys or darft picks for corey

Is dougie still doing that kiss thing to his wife?? My god he is a legend.

  • Maha10k Posted: Feb.7 at 4:13 pm
The first time I head “wife beater” was in 1995. Somebody drew a cartoon on my desk of a guy in a tank top punching a woman with a caption that said “Where’s my dinner?” I suppose over time the tank top, given its popularity as an undershirt, became an unofficial uniform of household lounging. The occasional domestic dispute probably tainted the tank top because it’s presence was far greater than any other upper body garment. For some the mesh half-shirt has replaced the tank top as the official garment of domestic violence. However I think that may be a regional phenomenon. Out West, a real wife beater wears a tank top.

  • Cheryl Posted: Feb.7 at 4:19 pm
Wow, I could respond to that in so many ways, but this isn’t a feminist forum, so I’ll leave it alone. Thanks, Maha10K. Very enlightening.

  • FLUXLAND Posted: Feb.7 at 4:25 pm
Was that the Intro to Domestic Violence 101?

  • Sam Rubenstein Posted: Feb.7 at 4:28 pm
I believe that the origin came from plays and movies like a Streetcar Named Desire and Raging Bull, where the main character wore a white tank top and beat up on women. Over time the nickname just stuck.
And whenever you see a guy on the news being escorted out of his home for domestic violence, 85% of the time he is wearing a white tank top.

  • Maha10k Posted: Feb.7 at 4:46 pm
Cheryl, I was being silly. Today is actually my 2nd wedding anniversary. I like Sam’s answer.

  • Clockwork Posted: Feb.7 at 4:46 pm
dez, that ‘guesture to God’ is a gesture to Jackie…who might actually be God for Doug, so my bad

  • Danny W. UK Posted: Feb.7 at 4:48 pm
So if Jackie Christie and Corey Magette were wearing tank tops as they beat Doug?……….

  • HDIYM Posted: Feb.7 at 4:54 pm
I say back to Orlando for Maggette for rights to Vasquez and some combo including Arroyo/ Dooling/Diener/Bogans/Garrity

First i felt pity for that whipped ass christie, now i just detest him…. and Dun Senior. What a jerk

  • Smizzle Posted: Feb.7 at 6:45 pm
Maybe he should go to Toronto. Toronto is doing great right now, and that’s without Fred Jones healthy. Toronto should trade Fred Jones for Maggette straight up.

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Feb.7 at 6:51 pm
because of this link, i actually read up about a streetcar named desire. i’ve always been curious about that title, and you know where i first heard it from? method man’s verse in Wu-tang’s “triumph”.

  • DP Posted: Feb.7 at 7:24 pm
Doug is a punk but he did whoop Rick fox’s ass. His wife is a ride or die chick though. Corey, you need to go to the Knicks. play wit it.

  • Chief Posted: Feb.7 at 8:35 pm
Corey at the garden, finally some one with a work ethic. I second his nomination for lifetime achievement award. Props to Corey for the beater repping. DP, but i think he would do best in New Orleans, throw Chris Paul a bone.

  • FLUXLAND Posted: Feb.7 at 9:21 pm
    I’m with Smizzle.

  • jared Posted: Feb.7 at 9:36 pm
corey to boston for wally Szczerbiak and like there second round pick or something. pretend corey gets injured. That would be sick. next year. greg oden or kevin durant whoever the decide to get. al jefferson.paul pierce. corey. bassy is questionable but still. and haveing gerald green coming off the bench. it wont happen. but still. itd be nice.

  • David Posted: Feb.7 at 10:30 pm
Trade rumors, domestic violence, USA pop culture history lessons… Please Slamonline, keep teaching the mysterious intracacies of life. And a lot of teams could use Maggette but I’m guessing his inconsistency is the whole reason that the Clips benched him. I remember when his draft rights were traded by the Sonics for Horace Grant. I’m not too upset anymore…

  • brandon Posted: Feb.9 at 1:36 am
i think he should go 2 clevland wit lebron

  • linderbooty Posted: Feb.9 at 7:46 am
ta hell with hitting on christie’s wife, he can hit on ME any day :) keep him here (so I don’t have to drive too far to see him play)….but this opinion might be slighly swayed by the fact that I have a tiny crush on him lol
