Break The Right Necks To Win

by Chris O’Leary

Some quick info for any aspiring sneaker design types, or just for those of you who have fun putting together new colorways of kicks on your favorite brand’s ID site.

Project Bluefoot is starting a monthly design contest, where aspiring designers can show off their skills and catch the attention of some higher-ups in the footwear industry. That’s no more evident in the site’s first contest, where users will design their own version of an Air Jordan XXV, or 2K10, or whatever Jordan Brand will call their flagship shoe next season.

After the July 25 deadline passes for Jordan XXV designs, the entrants will be judged by two JB officials: D’Wayne Edwards, designer of the Air Jordan XX1 and XX2 and the Melo line and Jason Mayden, who designed the Air Jordan 2009 and the CP3 line.

While the winning designs won’t make it to Beaverton for production—the contest is about exposure and getting feedback from two big names in the sneaker industry—the winner won’t come away empty handed.

Up for grabs is an unspecified Air Jordan shoe, an autographed copy of Erin Patton’s new book (Patton was the Original Director of Product & Marketing for JB), and apparel product from Daily Dose Rx.

If you’re into sneaker design, or you like checking out what other people are designing, this is up your alley.
