2010: A Jordan Brand Odyssey

A very literal interpretation of the silver anniversary.

by Chris O’Leary/olearychris

Back when the Air Jordan line was in its infancy, 2010 felt like it was a million years away. Visions of the future were all about space, robots and for some reason, people in silver suits.

Twenty-five years later, Jordan Brand is a goliath in the sneaker world. Timing, whether it’s been in the introduction of key designers or the development of industry changing sneakers in sync with the ebb and flow of MJ’s career, has always been on the brand’s side. So of course, 2010 should be no different.

Over the course of this week, the three JB-sponsored college teams (Cal, Georgetown and North Carolina) will all take turns wearing what in 1985 would have been some very futuristic-looking silver uniforms along with silver Air Jordan 2010s. The outfits, of course, commemorate Jordan Brand’s silver anniversary.

UNC wore their unis on Wednesday night in their 77-67 loss to Florida State. Cal will go head-to-toe in silver on Thursday night when they play Arizona and the Hoyas will be in silver on Saturday when they face Notre Dame. Hopefully the jerseys and sneaks treat Cal and Georgetown better than they did the Tar Heels.

A little extra info, if you didn’t have it already, on some upcoming Jordan 2010 releases:

- Black/university blue — March 6
– White/white, varsity red — May 1
– Black/flint grey — May 29

All versions will retail for $170 US and there’s no word yet on if the silver shoes will hit retail.

Images of the silver unis and the sneaks are below.

You can see the hole in the shoe where Jordan Brand shot itself.

It’s alright. Not bad. Is that a wannabe Russell Westbrook as the model?

  • Matt Joe

These shoes look like Payless joints, lol. I rather wear Proteges to be honest, suprisingly decent basketball shoes and one tenth the price. Jordan never helped to lighten my wallet or my parents when I was a kid.

any news as to whether these shoes are limited or a general release?

As much hate as this shoe gets, I’m a fan. The silver unis would’ve looked better as a white base with silver accent. These look like something NASA would use.

this is probably the worst jordan shoe ever.why would anyone pay 170 for this crap? they already have put d wade on the injured list.they look like those pf goodrich shoes from the early ’70′s.hope- fully, jordan brand will get consumer feed back and make a decent offical jordan shoe.everything after the xx has been trash!my true flights look better!

don’t tease me JB !!! i want to buy your product, please make it available. your recent marketing sucks !! you hipe dwade wearing the new shoe and he doesn’t even wear it in the all star game. instead, he wears a color that is limited or not available ? no set release date, why make me guess ?? Ive supported your product for over 20 years but you sure are making it tough
