Pics Of The Zoom Kobe VI

Kobe (or Nike) delivers big on the day after Christmas.

by Chris O’Leary/@olearychris

Kobe Bryant and Christmas Day have been in a committed relationship for many years. Black Mamba’s been playing in Christmas Day games since before he was known as Black Mamba.

He’s now making himself comfortable on Dec. 26 as well.

For the second year in a row, Kobe’s signature joints will release the day after Christmas. Thanks to Foot Locker Unlocked, you can check out pics of the shoe, get info on it and download wallpapers.

As FL says, the shoe will release on Dec. 26 in the black/del sol colorway. The most notable change with this year’s shoe is that Nike has moved away from Flywire, which the Kobe IV and V used as its main selling points. A new traction is on the outsole as well, trading the herringbone style it was using for what looks like a looser impression of a honeycomb.

The shoes will be available at Foot Locker stores and online, as I’ve said twice … now three times, Dec. 26. Fans of Kobe and/or his lightweight, low cut sneaks can start their countdowns now.

Besides from the honeycomb thing, isn’t it just like last seasons?

  • http://slamonline.com Chris O’Leary

It looks similar, Eboy, but the material is different. Flywire is out for a textured material. It could make for an entirely different feel.

    kobe V looks better…

Must. Have. The Kobe’s are my new favorite line of sneaker to hoop in. I don’t play in Jordan’s anymore (3 serious ankle injuries will do that), I just wear them now.

  • Tupack Shackur

I was feeling these in other colorways, but now it just looks terrible. Is it just me, or are they building towards a high cut?

  • larrylegend

seems like nike is about to make a lot of money again.

the texture in the upper actually resembles a snake skin.. Looks-wise i like the IV, but its poor in performance because of lunar foam compared to the V which have zoom.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

this is definitely higher than the V. also the V’s low point is traction because of those “heartbeat” patterns. KD 2 is a must have. great peformance for a lower price.

  • http://slamonline.com Chris O’Leary

People always complain about lunar foam but I’ve never had an issue with it, in the ZKIV or the OG Hyperdunk. Maybe I haven’t worn them long enough. Is it something you see over a season’s worth of use?

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

the problem with lunar foam is that it thins out faster than zoom. basically a softer version.

I remember seeing friends who happily purchased the V’s only to later see their FB status populate with “MY ANKLES! =(“

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

@ Chris O’Leary: Well its still a matter of preference really. Traction and comfort always comes on top for me. I rarely play on well maintained floors so traction is very important.

I routinely ball in unlaced Kobe IV’s and never turned, sprained, rolled, popped or broke an ankle.

  • Justin

Never had any ankle problems in my V’s. I will be giving these serious consideration. Probably won’t go through Nike iD this time around.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

    look nice, comfty

Boing – unlaced? You’re just playing with fire! Although they are snug to begin with, I still gotta tie them up for that extra security.

  • http://slamonline.com Chris O’Leary

I never understood how people could play with their laces loose or undone. I gotta do mine up tight.

  • str8 from samoa

these look more like running shoes

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com Masr

I like these, they’re pretty good kinda reminds me of the V’s but I like it.

  • Blackphantom

I like these. The only thing about Kobe’s shoes are Ankle support problems, but nothing beats some Jordans in that department. I freakin rolled my ankle twice rocking 7s

  • JTaylor21

@BPhantom, damn can’t you tell just by looking at the 7s that they have NO ankle support. Cool shoes but the Brons 8s are better.

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

@chris, the IV’s have a wierd pressure point that dig into the soft spot on your ankle(well mine anyway)when you tie them tight, the the tight fit of the shoe itself is decent enough. Plus if you like to talk sh!t as i do, it gives you extra ammo when you dont even have to lace ur joints to school your man.

i got myself a pair of Kobe V’s and KD II’s

planning on getting the Adizero Rose or the Micro G Black Ice, idk about the Kobe VI they look like they’re gonna spew out poison in my feet :P

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Not sure I like the texture, I prefer my sneaks smoother. Going to wait and see what the Jordan 2011 looks like before I commit either way. I was hoping someone would do a hyperfuse with better heel support; fingers crossed.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

@ Jtaylor.. how could you tell lebron 8′s are better. they aren’t released yet.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

@ Omphalos.. there are rumors that the Lebron 8 post season will incorporate hyperfuse technology. also it will come in zoom cushioning or air max 180.. so maybe you could look up for that.

  • Ronald

To the people complaining about Kobe’s not having heel support: you guys know that it has been scientifically shown that high-mid tops does not increase ankle protection? It’s mainly all about heel construction.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

^ adding to that i remember C-Webb saying that even the best high-tops couldn’t prevent his ankle from getting injured.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Cheers for the tip off J, I thought the Hyperfuse tech was great aside from the cushioning system. Hopefully it will be in more than Lebrons. I didn’t think there were going to be Lebron 8s? Just Zoom Soldier IVs?

  • JTaylor21

@J maybe because there have been countless pictures of them all over the web, than you very much.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

^Jtaylor you liar. You concluded that the 8 are better(ankle support) just by looking at pictures? Not by actual testing? have you ever tried a basketball sneaker? you can’t judge performance by looks. what if nike failed to address improvement on that part? simple. you failed. there’s the door. you don’t want it with me.

  • JTaylor21

@J, yes I want it with you and some. Have you even worn the Kobes so how can you talk? From what I’ve seen and played with low tops are just like Chucks, there’s a higher possibility of twisting your ankles in them than high tops like Brons.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Jtaylor. chucks are in no comparison with the kobe line. yes i’ve worn (meaning tried, not judged by looks) kobe IV many times and never rolled an ankle. high-tops doesn’t assure you prevention from ankle injuries. hence there are times that high-tops restricts mobility or freedom of your ankle. i’m still in favor of it though compared to low-tops, but because i actually tried a low and not concluding through pictures, i can say that a low cut shoe with the right technology like the kbIV provides enough amount of ankle support and freedom in the ankle area.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Jtaylor also i never argued about kobe’s line better than bron’s. all i said is that you can’t say that this shoe has better __ than this just like what your sayin. get it? hell i would choose my zoom soldier III’s over any kobe’s. kd II’s have better stability and ankle support than lebron 7, yet it is a mid-cut shoe. air zoom generation is mid-cut but poor in ankle support. Air force 1 is a high top yet bad on ankles. These days its the material, the form, the technology incorporated, all that combined makes a shoe great. were not in chuck taylor era’s anymore.

  • JTaylor21

@J, all I’m saying is that I’ve worn both the Kobes (low tops) and Brons (high tops) and I’ve come close to twisting up my ankle real bad in the lows and never even had a bad step in the highs. People are built differently and get injured differently so that’s probably why people like lows over high.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Jtaylor, just don’t conclude through pictures..

  • Ballin Professer

well ive had kobe v’s and they were really good but they ripped heaps and at the start it had no grip but the good now. These look alot different than the others mostly cause of material but same basic shape. hope these are good :D
