Top Wisconsin High Scool Rivals Face Off at

Third Annual Converse/Eastbay Classic

Featured match-up includes two of Wisconsin’s top-ranked powerhouses Milwaukee Hamilton vs. Menomonee Falls

What: The Converse/Eastbay Classic is a one-day, five game exhibition, bringing together some of the top boys and girls high school basketball teams in Wisconsin. All proceeds from this event go to the JG Scholarship Fund, which allows deserving high school students in need of assistance to further their college education in the state of Wisconsin.

Who:

  • Milwaukee Hamilton (Milwaukee, Wis.) – Coming off of last year’s City Conference Championship and strong showing at the WIAA state quarterfinals, Hamilton is returning five seniors including 6’ 5” Elgin Cook, who has verbally committed to Iowa State. At the end of their 2010 season, Hamilton placed seventh in Wisconsin, according to MaxPreps.com.
  • Menomonee Falls (Menomonee, Wis.) – With the graduation of six seniors, the 2010-2011 Falls basketball team has new roles to fill. They will be led by Greater Metro Conference player of the year and 1st team all-state selection Jean Pierre Tokoto and are in position to be one of the top teams in the state.
  • Madison Memorial (Madison, Wis.) – The Memorial Spartans enter the 2010-2011 season as Division One state runner up. With the graduation of two starters, Vander Blue (Marquette) and Tre Creamer (Logan CC) the Spartans still maintain depth, size and talent, represented by the highly-recruited Junior Lomomba. They are first in Division One preseason rankings, according to Wissports.net.
  • Rufus King (Milwaukee, Wis.) – The Rufus King Generals will be led by seniors Devin Steel and Quintrell Rowe, returning 2nd team all-city performer Arroyo Edwards and high-scorer Cimmeon Bowers. The Generals are coached by Jim Gosz, entering his 20th season at Rufus King .

5:45 PM – Rufus King (Milwaukee, Wis.) vs. Madison Memorial (Madison, Wis.)

7:30 PM – Milwaukee Hamilton (Milwaukee, Wis.) vs. Menomonee Falls (Menomonee Falls, Wis.)

Why: The proceeds generated from the Classic benefit the Jim Gosz Foundation, which in conjunction with Milwaukee Public Schools provides scholarships to Wisconsin students who want to further their education beyond high school but do not have the necessary resources. Jim Gosz is in his 20th year as head coach of Rufus King, a participant in the Classic.
