Kicks: The Nike Air Max Barkley

by Chris O’Leary / @olearychris

During the Lakers-Mavs series, Charles Barkley said on TV that he wanted to get Kobe Bryant in a pair of his Barkley shoes, to help protect the Mamba’s injured ankle.

Kobe won’t be in action again until October (or later, pending a lockout), but there will be some Barkley-inspired sneaks available to him if he chooses to wear them.

The Nike Air Max Barkley will hit stores in the Spring of 2012. As CounterKicks explains, the shoe isn’t the exact retro of the Air Max 2 CB ’94 that you may have been hoping for.

“The Nike Air Max Barkley updates the old Air Max2 CB ’94 silhouette with a composite synthetic upper that removes the leather and nubuck overlay straps familiar to the original. Also left off is the signature Air Max2 CB ’94 toe cap piece with a clean toe in place and added perforations for a more streamlined look. Everything else including cushioning and Air Max2 tongue badging appears to be in place, however. This is essentially a Barkley Hyperfuse refresh.

Nike Air Max Barkley releases Spring 2012. Retail is $130.
