Kicks: LeBron 9 Released Today

Here’s every colorway we’ve seen so far.

Enough with all the hype, videos, preview and pictures. Today, you can walk into a retail store and put your paws on a pair of the long-awaited primary black/red/white Nike Zoom LeBron 9s. You remember the 9s, right? How could you not. It seems like every day for a month we had news on The King’s new kicks. So, what does the new look feel like?

Lead designer Jason Petrie spoke with SLAM for Ish 153. Here’s a snippet of his comments:

“On the balls of your feet, it feels like a lightweight guard shoe. But there’s also heel protection for when you’re backing down in the paint…For us it’s not about making the lightest shoe out there. It’s about being the strongest, and being able to stand up to [LeBron’s] test of being strong and fast.”

Our friends at Nike help us hit the major bullet points of the shoe below, while you can check out a gallery of every colorway we’ve seen thus far above. Plus, peep a bonus video from Nike, titled “Big Bang,” which suggests LBJ’s new sneaks are the product of another universe. You be the judge.

* The shoe is the first to combine Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction.

* Built for breathability and durability, the Hyperfuse construction is a composite of three different layers of material that are fused together to create a nearly seamless, one piece upper that sheds considerable weight without sacrificing protection.

* A midfoot harness that wraps around the foot incorporates Flywire 3.0 technology for added strength and lock down support. This lightweight upper mimics the speed and strength symbolic of LeBron’s game.

* The finely-tuned midsole provides a unique hybrid cushioning system. By combining Max Air 180 in the heel for absorption on impact with a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot for a springy response, a player is protected on impact where they need it most. A composite shank plate provides torsional rigidity and support while reducing midsole weight.

* Signature aesthetic elements include:  LeBron’s new logo, his signature on the ventilated tongue and, scripted on the toe, the motto: “What we do in life, echoes in eternity.”

* Additional colorways include:
– the limited edition “Cannon” (hit retail early October)
– College: Kentucky (October 15), Ohio State (November 15) and University of Miami (November 29)
– Previously, a China-specific colorway (October 1)
– Other LEBRON 9 colorways will launch at key moments throughout the year.

    Ugly, overhyped, overpriced.

I like the China ones, the Kentucky Ones, Hurricane ones and the id with the all-red.

  • Anton Posted: Oct.25 at 2:30 pm
They usually fall apart after 36 minutes of wear.

    False^

Certain colors are nice, but they are definitely overpriced. I don’t like this trend of Nikes signature models going up by $10 every year.

  • fizzle Posted: Oct.25 at 4:45 pm
Zoom LeBron IV: $125. Zoom LeBron V: $140. Zoom LeBron VI: $140. Air Max LeBron VII: $160. Air Max LeBron 8/V2: $160. LeBron 9: $170.

I copped the Amare Air Sweep Thru PE from Nike Town last week. Loved the style and colorway better than these joints. Plus they was only $90. Does anyone know if the Knick Spizikes are going to be limited edition or a general release?

  • dfrance21 Posted: Oct.25 at 5:18 pm
From what I’ve seen O, its gonna be a general release, but I would be on niketown.com at midnight to be on the safe side. Which pair you copping? I like the orange joints.

  • O Posted: Oct.25 at 5:56 pm
I think i’ma go with the blue pair. I went to the Footlocker and Jimmy Jazz and other sneaker spots in my hood and NO one knew what I was talking about. Even at Foot Locker. This one Jewish cat who gets kicks early knew, but said, I can order them, but it’ll cost you $350. I think they’re limited.” Crushed me. I HATE niketown.com at midnight. I remember being THIS close to coppin’ the year of the rabbit 7′s. Finished putting my credit card info, shippin address and pressed “continue.” It loaded for about 40 minutes (didn’t touch a thing) before saying, “Server time out.” I went back to the site and they were sold out. I was HELLA MAD!! Have a feeling this is gonna happen again…

another shoe kids can’t afford lebron kobe durant wade all thèse guys make me sick starburys the man real dude

  • ripslam Posted: Oct.25 at 10:44 pm
^Durant’s shoes go for under $90, which is exceptional for a quality performance shoe. I played in Starburys, the $15 price is admirable, but they have zero traction and after one game my feet ached.

seen the blue and orange ones today at foot locker… FRESH!

  • everything Posted: Oct.26 at 2:34 am
balled in these yesterday (china cw) and all i have to say is that it has the best ankle and heel lock down i have experienced in years. your ankle and heel will stay right where its supposed to. i felt no heel movement in these and thats what really sold me. try to fit them at your local sneaker shop and youll know what im talking about once you lace them up tight.

    it’s a nice article

  • L Posted: Oct.26 at 6:38 am
Nothing beats a pair of AIR FORCE 1.L

  • Jono Posted: Oct.26 at 8:05 am
Appeared on NBA 2K12 yesterday too, awesome stuff!

  • ubestNOTmiss Posted: Oct.26 at 8:19 am
AF1 for ball? maybe the air force 25… but Air Force 1??? youre simply sacrificing performance, comfort and support waaaay too much for mistaken sense of style.

  • dfrance21 Posted: Oct.26 at 11:25 am
@ O maybe you’re right, I saw them on nicekicks and it didn’t say it was limited so I’m not 100% sure. But november 5th is the date. Sign up for a niketown.com account. it stores your cc info, you get free shipping and free returns. You can pretty much order with 1 click and save a ton of time. But those Spizikes are dope, i wouldn’t wanna miss them.

  • niQ Posted: Oct.26 at 11:51 am
@fizzle, no one said you had to buy them the day the are released. Just wait til it’s on sale or at the outlet then =p

  • Nguyen-Luan Posted: Oct.26 at 12:00 pm
With Nike’s current and upcoming basketball kick lineup. I’m get a pair of Hyperdunk 2011s. Out of heel and forefoot cushioned shoes(LeBron 9, Zoom Kobe 7, and 2011s),HD 2011s performs well at its price range.

  • DS44 Posted: Oct.26 at 1:33 pm
Overpriced for a player who hasn’t won a chip.

  • Mike From Spain Posted: Oct.27 at 4:16 am
I hear that the shoes of the Lebron line are comfortable for the first three quarters of games…

  • everything Posted: Oct.27 at 7:08 am
wow did you just come up with that now? so clever mike!

  • Syl Posted: Oct.27 at 11:05 am
    The Cannon’s are slick
