Kicks: Air Jordan IV ‘Cavs’ Out Saturday

Grab these black, blue and orange joints this weekend.

by Rodger Bohn /@rodgerbohn

Continuing the wave of dope kicks that have hit the shelves in 2k12, Nike will be releasing the Air Jordan IV “Cavs” edition tomorrow morning. Inspired by “the shot” MJ hit against the Cavs back in ’89, these IV’s offer a unique colorway. The combination of blue and orange really makes the shoe pop, and you could probably slide by saying that it’s a Knicks colorway if you’re from the city. These J’s are bound to sell out anywhere, though we doubt Craig Ehlo will be copping a pair.

These will be a limited edition release, retailing for $160. Select retailers and all Foot Locker House of Hoops locations will have them, but your best bet would be to call ahead to make sure your local spot will have them in stock. Be ready to wait a minute, though, as many stores are expecting lines of people waiting overnight to cop these.

These were originally $110. Now they’re $160. When will the madness stop?

Looks like knock offs from a flea market

How the hell did these shoot up to $160? I understand if they were OG colors, but come’on, maaaan! I’m a Knicks fan and had these been called the “Double Knickle” from his comeback game at the Garden when he dropped 55 on the Knicks or something, i might’ve copped. But Cavs? ehhhhh…

My first Jordans were the IV in 1990 (my Mom got them on clearance for me). As a college student, I was able to cop the 1999 retro IV for $100 (that was the retail price in 1999). It’s still my favorite J of all time, but now they’re $160. But before we complain about the price gouging, let’s remember why Jordan Brand has to keep raising prices (or at least why they FEEL like they NEED to): Michael Jordan’s divorce. JK. No, the real reason is because of re-sellers. First of all, they need to stop making every release so limited. Because they’re limiting these and making these quick strikes, they’re making hype beasts drool over these joints. If they just made them more widely available, the supply would somewhat match the demand. But again, the bigger problem is re-sellers (as well as hype beasts being WILLING to pay $300+ prices on eBay, etc). JB basically feels like, “If someone’s going to make money off this shoe, we might as well make a little extra too.” So they’re basically padding their own pockets while taking away from a re-seller’s profits by $50 to $60 a pair. I’ve been collecting kicks for a long time now, but I hate the game now. I was really into it from 2001 to 2005, but the past several years have really turned me away from the sneaker game and especially the way Jordan Brand does business. I will always be a MICHAEL JORDAN fan, and his Air Jordans (especially 1 through 14) will always be special to me because of the memories they conjure but I really am beginning to hate the Brand because he doesn’t care about his OG fans. They just care about bastardizing the Brand by dropping ugly fusions and dropping nasty looking garbage every single Saturday morning and hiking up prices every single year.

…and the quality of most of his retros is terrible. The paint cracking is out of control.

keep spending your money on J’s kids, they are SOOOO worth it

especially since as soon as you scuff em, the guy next to you has on some cleaner kicks, and now you’re out $160. How much money has jordan made off the “hood?”

  • Jono

@owen I don’t see anything wrong with a lil scuff. They’re shoes afterall, they come into contact with the ground, where dirt exists. Naturally when dirt touches things, they become dirty (aka scuff). To say you’re out of $160 (I assume the context you’re using this in is such that the shoes are practically worthless), in silly considering that it’s still the same shoe except it has some dirt. You know, because it touches the floor so your bare feet won’t have to as that was the reason shoes were invented.

  • Kareem

If you can’t afford to lose $160 don’t buy sneakers that cost that much. If it’s going to hurt your pockets to get them dirty then you have no business spending money on meaningless frivolous things like casual sneakers that you won’t be playing ball in.

  • BillOReily

These are nice!!…too expensive for me…i’ll leave these for the kids on welfare to cop…tax dollars at work!

Let’s be real… (and I’ve wasted plenty of money on Jordans myself sadly) But if you had no idea who Michael Jordan was, or that Jumpman logo wasn’t on it and the price wasn’t so high, you’d think that this (and 99% of the original Jordan series) were K-Mart skateboard shoes. And you’d NEVER condescend enough to buy them. Don’t even lie.
