Charlotte, Atlanta, Baltimore Among Cities To Host AND1 Open Tryouts This Summer

From our friends at AND1:

The AND1 apparel and sneaker brand, in conjunction with IMG, today announced the first six sites to host open tryouts for the 2013 AND1 Summer Remix Basketball Tournament.  The inaugural event will be a 12-team, $100,000, winner-take-all tournament to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University over Labor Day Weekend (August 29 – September 1).  The “Open Run” tryouts will give anyone the chance to participate in the event, with the best eight players from all of the tryouts forming a free agent team with direct entry into the tournament.

“Our brand has been built on the idea of free expression on the basketball court, and through these ‘Open Run’ tryouts we will give the best players an opportunity to join us for the ultimate prize later this summer in Philadelphia,” said  AND1 marketing director Maurice Levy. “AND1 has always been a brand of opportunity for the streetballer, and we think this summer we will help give a chance to a new legion of creative, athletic and exciting new faces in the sport.”

The six new cities and sites, in addition to last Saturday’s tryout at the Dunlevy Milbank Center in New York will include:

June 13- Morris Brown Gym (Atlanta, Ga 7PM-10PM) Walnut St NW, Atlanta, GA, 30314

June 14- Lions Park Community Center (Raleigh, NC 6PM-9PM) 516 Dennis Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27604

June 15- Ivory Baker Rec Center (Charlotte, NC 12PM-4PM) 1920 Stroud Park Court, Charlotte, NC 28206

June 22 Oakwood Rec Center (Los Angeles, Cal., 12PM-4PM) 767 California Ave, Venice, CA 90291

July 17- Carmelo Center (Baltimore, MD, 6-9PM) 1100 E Fayette St, Baltimore, MD 21202

July 19- Reading High School (Reading, PA 6PM-9PM) 801 N 13th St, Reading, PA 19604

Those interested in participating in the Open Run can pre-register on-line at AND1.com/register prior to arriving or they can show up at the venue and register in person. Depending upon turnout, players should plan on being at the tryouts for several hours in order for a thorough evaluation of their skills.

Teams for the 12 team event will be comprised of some of the best players from across the country including professionals, as well as streetball legends.   More open tryouts will be held in other select locations across the United States.

Additional details, from the announcement of team captains to the naming of celebrity coaches for each participating team, along with musical talent for the event will be made in the coming weeks.

The format is better. Placing for money means little to no tricks and heart, desire and skill will be on the forefront.

I’d guarantee there’s no bullshit when all dat Cheddar is on the line.

Whatever the case, streetball is gonna be relevant again
