The Game, Hood Morning

Did you catch every bball reference on Game’s new mixtape?

Compiled by Tzvi Twersky and Adam Figman

It’s no secret that L.A. rapper The Game is a hoophead—he played high school ball, regularly attends NBA games and even laced ‘em up to run alongside Kevin Durant and Michael Beasley in the Drew League earlier this summer. And, of course, he drops punchlines referencing basketball all over his songs, as is pretty evident on his newest mixtape, Hoodmorning [No Typo]: Candy Coronas. Click through the gallery above to peep every single bball reference on Hood Morning.

These lines are wack. We need a piece like this on SkyZoo. He brings the Heat(no pun intended) when it comes to Basketball references.

  • MUBWAR

Game’s aight but he name-drops waaaaay too much.

  • T-Ray

People gone hate lol but regardless this mixtape is bananas can’t stop banging it! Game is underrated in my opinion and yea he does name drop a lot but what rapper doesn’t? Either way dudes on his sh*t right now.

    These lines are buttcakes.

Word @ Enig. His whole style has evolved into a bunch of name dropping.

  • THE IRON LUNG

Game always keeps it dense with bball references. A few more:

“My newest sh**, Carmelo yellow Camaro” — “Hoodmorning”
“Magic when I shoot, get to bussin’ like Hedo/Turkoglu n***as” — “Mr. West/Money & The Power”
“Walk in my closet, throw on my J’s” — “Mr. West/Money & The Power”
“I’m balling like Amar’e/I’m not an athlete, but it’s a track meet” — “Wow” [Gucci Mane]
“Stunting in my J’s, I got every pair/They put out since ’85 ’cause a n**a ’bout his gear” — “Standin’ On A Corner”
“These Jordans on my feet that’s how big money walk” — “Standin’ On A Corner” [Wiz Khalifa]
“I shot call and ball quicker than John Wall” — “Grave Yard”
“Now rocking with the greatest/On my #4 Jordans, gold bottle Ace of Spades sh**/In these blood diamonds, ’cause this blood rhymin’/Coldest 4th quarter, ni*** I’m a call him Blood Bryant” (BWS)

The best sports line I’ve ever heard from dude was “hit your block, take all your bricks rodman style”

  • larrylegend

    Love for The Game.

  • Brahsef

Game’s garbage. Don’t understand how you can diss practically every rapper in the game yet his whole style relies on name droppin.

The documentary was dope, but after that….hot garbage

These lines are weak. Game is inconsistent as hell. Joe Budden is the king of sports references.

@BE.water – hell yeah, kid! I’ve been listening to that Elmatic joint off and on for like the past two months now.

  • Way up North

@WHAT, yaaaa, budden is under-rated, pump it up freestyle with jigga has crazy bball lines… c-rayz-wallz & wale also have great sports / ball references… game’s cool though, nice effort

Y’all wanna know whose great at references? Zack De la Rocha(of Rage Against the Machine), but you have to be a pretty smart person to understand his references

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Skylar diggins should not be proud of that name drop, he basically called her a b*tch

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

    He is just awful…

  • treetrunks

yea, ELmatic is real good..represent is my favorite on that one..great remakes

Game was my man when he first signed to Aftermath (before he was passed on to G-Unit). He easily had the crew’s 2nd best album after Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and before Young Buck’s debut (that album was a certified street banger). But his bi-polar ish got tiring, man. Going at G-Unit and talking about peace. Then dissing them again, and then trying to squash it. Then dissing Jay, but denying he was going at Jay, and then admitting it was a subliminal. It’s just too much. Sidenote: I chilled with Game for a minute when he was in NYC. He gave me a jar of sticky greens. When I got back to my block, cops stopped me a few feet before reaching my lab. Spent the weekend in central booking for that. I’m not mad at Game at all. I’m mad that I didn’t even get to blaze any of that FREE chronic.

lets be honest, these aren’t punches, they’re mad weak.

  • tomtom

Observing the split personalities on this site is so amazing…and hilarious. When the lockout is mentioned, guys like to sound like damn lawyers and teachers. But whenever hip hop is mentioned it’s like, dawg this joint is wack or dope or ill and the sickness in this ish is crazy raw you know wha i’m sayin nig….

  • C Da Tyrant

    Game dope period.

  • Riggs

He is garbage lyrically and is effeminate mentally.

  • Riggs

@tomtom: i don’t think anyone knows what you’re saying, but nice try.
