Video: Vince, Melo Sink Game-Winners


When you think about it, two game winning shots on a night when all 30 teams played isn’t anything out of the ordinary. But that isn’t  reason not to mention them. The first GW of 2009 came courtesy of Vince Carter, who might be earning back just a bit of his Half Man, Half Amazing handle this season (could he be an All-Star?). Watch as Vince calmly sinks a 33-footer jumper as time expires:

The second heroic shot came from Carmelo Anthony’s hot hand. Just after Kevin Durant drained yet another gutsy basket from deep to put the Thunder in the driver’s seat, Melo returns the favor in Desmond Mason’s grill with just 0.1 seconds left on the clock. The Nuggets won as everyone predicted they should have, and the Thunder go home with another moral victory, so to say.

Some may wonder why Jarrett Jack’s go-ahead deuce against the Knicks doesn’t get a mention. Since the game was tied before he made the basket, we’re not including it with the previous cold-blooded plays. Sorry Pacer fans.

    great plays by both of em but im just wondering why desmond didn’t but his hand up? that’s melos sweet spot right there.atleast he has made an gw from exact same spot against minnesota couple of years ago.

    Great shots. I think Lawerence Frank should pay a group of fans at every game to sing to Vince Choir style like in Stepbrothers, Vince Carter is a Man-gina, Vince Carter is a Man-gina, over and over throughout the game. He seems to only do things like this when he’s pissed so that would probably do the trick.

    Oh yeah, I know that Chauncey has had a huge impact in Denver and they are definitely a better team with him, but they still have huge holes defensively. When your giving up 120 to the Thunder, your not a solid defensive team.

    No question about the defensive troubles in Denver, B. The team seems to be playing a little shaky recently, but they have to be really happy with how Nene is playing. Along with the Chauncey trade, Nene is making Denver management look real good for getting rid of Camby and his monster contract.

    Ummm VC is more clutch than both of those two combined. He’s hit something like 15 buzzer beaters in his career, not even Kobe can say that!

    @ Mike: Melo Already Has 9 Game-Winning Shots. 1 In Seattle As A Rookie, 1 In Boston And Atlanta In His Second Season, 5 In His 3rd Season, None In The Iverson Stint, And The 1 Against OKC. He’ll Pass VC In No Time.

    LeBron has hit something like 9 of 36 game winners… While Melo has hit 13 of like 19, which is most in the league in makes, but nowhere near the most in attempts… I’m gonna make up a new stat here and say that Melo has the best clutch % in the league… Face it, the guy is underappreciated for his shooting and clutch ability.

    After that game when LeBron scored 29 of his team’s last 30 points against the Pistons in the playoffs, there shouldn’t be any debate as to whether LeBron or Melo is more clutch. Let’s see Melo do it in the playoffs.
