Mike Brown Isn’t a Joey Crawford Fan, at All

by Marcel Mutoni

Bizarre ending to the Cavs-Pacers game last night, as the refs made two highly-questionable calls that essentially decided the game.

Apparently, Cavs coach Mike Brown failed to appreciate the delicious irony in the Pacers’ decision to run the exact same play that he had ran seconds before (and get bailed out by the refs, too). From the Plain-Dealer:

“I went back and I watched the last two plays and that last call on LeBron was the worst call I’ve ever been a part of,” a seething Brown said. “I cannot imagine another worse call than that by that official. It was an awful call and for him to take away a basketball game from a team with .4 seconds on the clock is irresponsible. That is an irresponsible call.”

“It was predetermined from the call that was made on the other end of the floor and it was very unfortunate because there were a lot of men out on the floor that were working their (behind) off to try to win the ball game. We got that game taken away from us on a horse — excuse my French — horsecrap call with .2 seconds left on the clock by that official. Absolutely horrible.”

Settle down, coach. You and Joey Crawford are both wrong here. And for your troubles, expect a call from Stu Jackson by day’s end.

Both are no calls…..Joey needs to retire. He is the worst official in the league.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

I’ll co-sign with TAD on this one!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Mike Brown has some nerve. Neither should have been called, so he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

In other news…..TJ Ford should stay in a closet somewhere……just a nasty block by Lebron. That’s like taking a dude’s manhood.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Wow, Jukai co-signed before I even posted. Very nice. That is a go-getter right there. Take notes kids.

  • slamfan4life

Brown should keep his big mouth shut

  • Gumdrop

That’s two days in a row TAD, the fans like your stuff.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Eboy: Considering TJ cold blooded-ly hit the game winner, I can say for all non-pun certainty that he can come out of the closet.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Everyone get’s lucky.

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Eboy: I don’t disagree, but he manned up and sanked it. That gets my respect. Gibson apparently seems like a better one-on-one defender when he’s going against every squad’s second unit.
That being said, the Cavs have been my security blanket since Phoenix has been sucking and I was pretty angry about everything that happened at the end.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    “Sanked it”???

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

TAD, it’s early, I haven’t really slept, I co-signed you in about three separate comments… cut me some slack here?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Well, since my Pistons season of rooting is at an all time low, i’ll let it slide. It was actually quite funny.

  • http://www.friendster.com/sesa Sesa

    Mike Brown, remember Duncan-Gate

  • http://fdklf.com Jukai

Hey, how do you think I feel? One out of the two remaining pieces of the Suns team I lived and died for is being traded away for a bunch of bratty hacks who can jump high, and one of my favorite basketball players in the game is crying harder than a diabetic small forward who played at Gonzaga.

  • Herfdawg

At least Crawford was consistent. If he called one and didn’t call the other I’d be really pissed off.

  • http://theghostofroyhobbs.blogspot.com Mo Charlo

    You and me both, Brownie.

  • http://blog.allenwalkerdesign.com Allen Walker

I mean it looks like money out of Mike Browns pocket. Now I know why Mo Williams feels like it’s cool to bitch and moan when things don’t go his way. They were both no calls and ‘Bron was out of position. Oh to the well. Cleveland needs loses like this to prep for the playoffs anyway. But to get back on point… Joey Crawford should be out of the game. Make up calls are as un-classy as point shaving.

  • riggs

co-sign herfdawg, if joey had NOT called that foul on lebron, everyone will be screaming inconsistency. brown should just stfu cause he knows if it had went his way he wouldnt open his mouth.

  • Herfdawg

Both calls were no-calls, but he WAS consistent. And that counts for something in an age where half the time you can’t even get that.

  • vtrobot

Where consistently horrible refereeing happens. Do other sports have refs that are as well known within their sports as NBA refs are? If not, I’m guessing that’s for a good reason.

  • Benji James

I agree that neither should have been called, but this just highlights a bigger problem. It’s nice to see one of the stars getting the same treatment as everyone else for once. The refereeing in the NBA is ridiculous. How can there be one rule for one player and a different rule for another? Surely everyone should be treated equally. You don’t see this kind of bias in any other sport. The league seems to look at which players get them the highest viewing figures and let them get away with alomost anything. It’s almost as fixed as the WWE, but at least they don’t claim that pro wrestling’s a sport.

  • bumarty

After watching both fouls multiple times, it appears to me that Granger simply jumps into Lebron without going for the ball and pushes him out of the play. On the other end, Granger catches the ball and Lebron reaches up and knocks it out of his hands. Different plays. Should have went to overtime. I’m sure Mike Brown came to the same conclusion after watching the tape.

  • Randy Brown

Mike Brown’s memory must be really short. Lebron has benefitted from that call more than anyone in the League. This is Jerry Sloan levels of hypocrisy. Support your team yes, but does he think this will help his team at all?

  • http://bestbusinessopportunity.net Best Business Opportunity

I agree, but at the end the referee is the law…

  • pablo (from argentina)

mike brown needs to shut it up. lebron is getting every damn call all the time. it almost makes the game boring. mike brown, I sure bet you wouldn´t be coaching in the NBA of former decades where there were not those stupid ass new rules of nowadays

  • Sdfigits

just another reason to hate the Cavs, remember now, you are aiming for a title, not entitlement

  • Son of Shawn

It was a great move by O´Brien to make the same play

  • http://www.alloutblitz.com cordeazy

    horsecrap isn’t French

  • BostonBaller

Let’s try this again..remember all the grief Doc got for complaining? I do, I remember him getting ripped on this site. In the same amount of time Brown has 20 something comments. lol Maybe b/c he is laughable as a coach at times and everytime he opens his mouth something kind of dumb spills out.

  • niQ

mike brown is an idiot. those 2 calls shouldn’t have been made on either side. thus the cavs woulda lost anyways.

  • vmcb

I love TJ Ford. Both those two last plays were no-calls, though; Crawford should be the one doing the Sam Cassell big-ball dance after winning the game for Indiana.

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

if its a foul on Granger, it’s a foul on LeBron. quit crying and pay your fine which you should get any hour

  • donlaker

david $tern should just let the refs play(pick up game) at all star weekend and have players/coaches ref the game for charity (ref wars 1.0)or some dodge basketball i could see mike brown and doc rivers throwing the ball at steve or violet palmer really hard

  • donlaker

is all the complainin, by king james coming back to haunt him i think so.. shut up and play cavs…

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

actually caught it live. i call it artifically induced karma.

  • The Ghost of Joey Crawford

quit yo’ jibba jabba, mike brown!

  • CHE

Man to be honest Granger was not fouled on that last play. I mean I know the refs don’t have instant replay on fouls but maybe from crawfords angle it looked like a foul which is unfortunate. The play before that Lebron was clearly pushed out of bounds so I can see how both of these were called as fouls. Just a sad way to end a game on questionable calls. As of late Joey Crawford hasn’t been the players or the fans number one fan. He might be over staying his welcome in the NBA.

  • sab

kinda stupid of Bron not to see that play coming, and not to somehow ENSURE that whatever he did, he didn’t foul. you had to know the refs were gonna whistle given any opportunity…

  • bumarty

Anyone making comments about Lebron getting every call has not been watching many Cavs games. Over the last month or so, many officials appear to be not calling much in his favor, almost it seems to spite him. Because of his size and strength, defenders seem to get away with more than the average slap. He’s not helping his case by crying about it at every opportunity though.

  • donlaker

king james is no shaq and refs are tired of his complaining , on evry call
    complain hall of fame:
    jordan, majic,kobe,king james,jeff van gundy
the pacers deserve that win , i think the lakers got into bron and the cavs head and now refs are not going to give him calls two or three games later, bron take it like shaq used to take it.
    shoot free throws.(kobe, maggette,jordan)

  • nbanutt

Point 1 – The calls were by 2 different officials by all accounts, no one can say it is case for consistency. Point 2 – LBJ was fouled by Grainger, you can see Graingers hip “reroute” Lebron, Lebron did not foul Grainger, no “rerouting, as they like to say now” So again, there is no case for consistency in calls. Point 3 – Joey Crawford has a history of bad calls against MB and the Cavs. As soon as I saw he was officiating I knew there would be some terrible calls made by him, but never thought it would be like it is. Point 4 – The officials keep the players accountable for their play, the NBA needs to keep the officials accountable for their officiating. There needs to be some method of objecting/instant replay..and if an official is overturned too many times they get fined and/or suspended. Crawford should be forced to retire. Point 5 – Kudos to Mike Brown, he said what needed to be said. The officiating in the NBA has been run amok since the officials are not held accountable. This may bring the issue more needed attention. Point 6 – Whether Cavs would have won or not is not my issue its the poor officiating.

  • IndyB.

The Cavs still went to the line 16 more times tonight. I dont really think they were the ones who got screwed by the refs…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LMFAO AHAHAH THE SAME PLAY?!! ARE YOU KIDDING?!?! THAT IS F*CKIN HILARIOUS!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ riggs: NO SH!T. Who would complain for a call in their favour? So I guess I agree..

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I’m going to stand here and say that both of those plays were fouls and they both should have been called and they were and Mike Brown should get a nice big fine, J Crawford is an awesome referee/showman and that block that Lebron got on that slow fast break highlighted at least ONE player that doesn’t watch game tape to learn about his opponents.

  • rikson

Theres no doubt that the “stars” get “no-calls” all the time -> when sport becomes business…

  • rikson

IMO im really sick of this 2 class-system. The rules have to be the same for every player. It doesnt matter if its a shotblocker or not -> a foul is a foul. And PLEASE MAKE IT HARDER TO DRIVE ! Stop protecting your stars by changing the rules!

  • rikson

Oh and Mike Brown should just shut up. To hear the trainer of King James complaininmg bout bad-calls makes me laugh (and cry at the same time)…

  • L33tSauce08

I love seeing Brown complain about the call on Lebron when 4-5 times a game lebron does the infamous 3 step to the rim. Regardless of the calls being called right or not, the right team won the game. Enough said.
