Video: LeBron’s MSG Response

by Marcel Mutoni

The question on most people’s minds last night was, How would LeBron James perform at the Garden two nights after Kobe came through and wrecked shop? When asked, Bryant guessed that James would put up a quadruple double.

Not quite, but this ain’t nothing to sneeze at either. Do enjoy:

Obviously…Lebron is garbage. You’re welcome, Jones.

  • riggs Posted: Feb.5 at 9:02 am
he couldve actually beat kobes score, had he….you know…..took smarter shots…

  • James The Balla Posted: Feb.5 at 9:03 am
HE sucks … he had 52 with more shots. And wasn’t 20/20 from FT’s!!! STOp trying to be KOBE LEBRICK!!!

  • oliver aquino Posted: Feb.5 at 9:07 am
yeah lebron is better kobe doesnt know how to pass haha

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Feb.5 at 9:08 am
we shouldn’t compare this game with Kobe’s. They just had really good games, let’s leave it at that.

  • oliver aquino Posted: Feb.5 at 9:10 am
im a lebron fan..i hate kobe coz he injured bynum and their chance to win it all this year..

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Feb.5 at 9:12 am
    Crab dribble!

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Feb.5 at 9:14 am
The suit that he wore to the post game interview was kind of wack.

  • Manumaniac Posted: Feb.5 at 9:15 am
Obviously, you are joking, right? I mean, the fact that Lebron is one of the best basketball players who’s ever stepped up on the floor, doesn’t necessary means that Kobe isn’t also one of the top-10 NBA greats. They are both amazing. We’ve got to stop all this silly arguments about which one is the best and let them have their games. These dudes are unbelievable!

  • Germs Posted: Feb.5 at 9:15 am
Leave the words of wisdom to the Dutch! Totally right Gerard. Can’t compare them on a single game. Nice performance though from both of them.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 9:16 am
Manumaniac….stick around for a little while….you may just figure it out.

  • Che Posted: Feb.5 at 9:18 am
A triple double is pretty impressive. I think the knicks should call it a year and start practicing for next year.

  • Hisham Posted: Feb.5 at 9:18 am
    Hup Holland

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.5 at 9:20 am
The bottom line? The Knicks defense is horrible, at best.

  • Mendel Posted: Feb.5 at 9:22 am
I hate to say but I think LeBron might have out did Mamba. 52 with a couple doubles to add is pretty damn strong.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 9:23 am
^Should apply for a rocket science scholarship.

  • ANJOE Posted: Feb.5 at 9:24 am
NOW WHAT LEBRON. cant BEAT KOBE!

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Feb.5 at 9:24 am
So, the Knicks are definetly the new Washington Generals.

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Feb.5 at 9:25 am
Eboy, you still pay attention to mendel?

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.5 at 9:25 am
If that was for me E, i’ll only do that if Penn State is one of the schools.

  • Ohio Posted: Feb.5 at 9:25 am
You guys do realize that not even Kobe, or Michael Jordan have ever had that many points in a tripple double right? Lebron broke that record.

  • Co Co Posted: Feb.5 at 9:27 am
Both were impressive. Kobe is still a better player at this point and its okay. There’s nothing wrong with being second best at the age of 24. Have a fantastic day all!

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 9:28 am
Sorry, Boing….it was for TAD. BTW…good game last night….I was entertained while switching back and forth from that no-talent Lebron’s mediocre performance.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.5 at 9:33 am
E: If you meant the Pistons had a good performance, i’ll disagree. We almost spit up that game in the last 20 seconds. If Sheed didn’t make that 3, I would have personally asked for his trade today. Sometimes he is so smart, he is f*cking retarded.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.5 at 9:35 am
BTW, how are you handling that 30 degree weather in sunny Florida?

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 9:35 am
Well….neither one of the teams played a good game….but I’ll give credit to Stuckey making a ridiculous shot to put them ahead and Sheed for making that play.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Feb.5 at 9:35 am
Hisham: hup Holland? Het is geen voetbalwebsite! Alles kits? Germs: thanks

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Feb.5 at 9:36 am
wait, Germs also speaks dutch: hé man, bedankt voor de reactie!

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 9:36 am
    It’s pretty cold…..but it’s nice.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Feb.5 at 9:38 am
now can someone tell me something about the photo Mutoni used for this post. When you check out the photos of this game you can see there are a variety of pics with LeBron being the only one in the game with the “spotlight” on him. How does the photographer does this? I really don’t understand anything about any technique when it comes to this. En”lighten” me please.

  • Hisham Posted: Feb.5 at 9:42 am
Meer dan twee NL’ers op Slamonline = een invasie. OK back to English

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Feb.5 at 9:43 am
    haha

  • a_whiteman Posted: Feb.5 at 9:57 am
i think lebrons night was better for 2 reasons. #1 is the fact he put up a triple double with 52 points. #2 is if you add his points combined with his 11 assists, he had a bigger impact on the game by scoring and the distrubution to his team. LEBRON JAMES

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Feb.5 at 9:59 am
Ive decided that for today Lebron is better than Kobe, for the following reasons, Lebron play air-guitar and lip sinqs to 80’s rock songs, daps up Spike Lee, and shoots the sh!t with Mr Brooklyn Nets Carter, all in the same timeout. While kobe wonders if his hair cut looks okay and if his laugh sounds real enough, Plus his add on the left side on the screen has some glitch where it yells really annoying sh!t at me. repeatedly.
    Lebron > Kobe.

  • Bigi Posted: Feb.5 at 10:00 am
    Cavs-Lakers should be F.U.N.???

  • riggs Posted: Feb.5 at 10:05 am
what if bron bron scores 62 on sunday?

  • Robert Posted: Feb.5 at 10:27 am
Lebron had an advantage because their game was right after the Lakers came to town.

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.5 at 10:30 am
Both games should have an (*) next to them. As we speak, Charles Oakley and Xavier McDaniel are trying to shake down D’Antoni.

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Feb.5 at 10:44 am
What are you talking about Robert there was a day between the lakers and cavs games and the Cavs played the night before in Toronto…

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 10:53 am
Lebron still can’t shoot, but damn he’s good. And Knicks are horrible on defense. Where is everybody who was arguing with me that David Lee is a good defender. Show yourselves.

  • SLAM ONLINE | Posted: Feb.5 at 10:57 am
    [...] LeBron at MSG [...]

  • Cizzo Posted: Feb.5 at 10:58 am
Lebron will tell you this himself his scoring ability is not on Kobe’s level.

  • B. Long Posted: Feb.5 at 11:03 am
LeBron was incredible last night. Very entertaining.

  • Loqui Posted: Feb.5 at 11:05 am
It’s funny how the MSG network sells this as “dream Week”, uh WTF. Next up the Celtics, that should be good.Lol.
Atleast the knicks stayed in this one, Harrington had 39 pts and 13 rebounds. Say what you will about d’antoni, but he’s got the kncks competing every night, and that’s enough at the moment.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Feb.5 at 11:11 am
If LeBron drove more instead of settling for 20-footers, he would have scored 70 and fouled out half the team.

  • ab_40 Posted: Feb.5 at 11:12 am
hier is nummer 3 LeBron killed the knicks. and so did kobe they both did it in amazing fashion. and somewhere ex knicks players are cringing in a bar itching to run into MSG and have a go at fouling a star player:P

  • Fred34 Posted: Feb.5 at 11:15 am
Knick fans unite!! … and tell me how all the stars a$$ taste … Wanna get record stats - play the Knicks. When does DWade get his shot to pad his stat sheet?

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.5 at 11:32 am
no comment. Stat line speaks for itself

  • Doc Funk Posted: Feb.5 at 11:32 am
Eddie House drops 55 on the Knicks on Saturday. You can write that down.

  • jbn74sb Posted: Feb.5 at 11:44 am
    1. Kobe dropped his 61 in 36 minutes. Had he played 44 minutes, at that rate he would have had well over 70.
    2. LeBron = Ricky Davis 2009, shoving 11 people out of the way to grab that last rebound before flailing out of bounds.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Feb.5 at 11:46 am
Shhhh….Just enjoy it. And wait til Sunday.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 11:50 am
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 11:51 am
I wish Heath Leadger was still around to do the laugh justice.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 11:53 am
    Eboy
Lebron did push Boobie down for that last rebound, which he grabbed while damn near jumping in the crowd. Gotta be fair.
But, like Russ said, if Lebron hadn’t decided to prove to everybody that he could shoot jumpers, he would have scored 61 easily.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 11:56 am
Allen, you are 100% percent correct. On the flip side of the coin though…..(another Sark Night reference)at least dude TRIES to get rebounds….know what I’m saying?

  • BETCATS Posted: Feb.5 at 11:58 am
    “Posted: Feb.5 at 9:03 am
HE sucks … he had 52 with more shots. And wasn’t 20/20 from FT’s!!! STOp trying to be KOBE LEBRICK!!!” - James the Balla

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 11:59 am
But yes…I digress…9 rebounds are terrible as opposed to getting 10 and might even be a little bit worse than 0 collected against the same squad. I’m not sure though….I don’t have much of a leg to stand on here. I just know Lebron is really awful.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 11:59 am
    *Dark

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 12:00 pm
I couldn’t imagine how fun this would be if I actually rooted for the Cavs.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 12:12 pm
    Eboy
Oh, I wasn’t downing the accomplishment. I wanted him to start stealing rebounds at the end to make sure he got his triple double because that just looks better.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 12:15 pm
    I understand.

  • Jukai Posted: Feb.5 at 12:18 pm
Eboy, how’s Wade’s first-team all-defense goin’ these days against Detroit?

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 12:22 pm
What the fu*k language were you trying to type there?

  • drxslam Posted: Feb.5 at 12:33 pm
It’s pretty obvious now that Kobe is more of a team player than LeBron.

  • Jukai Posted: Feb.5 at 12:35 pm
I guess goin’ should have been doin’… I don’t really know what I was trying to express there.
    Wade sucks.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 12:37 pm
    That’s obvious.

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 12:56 pm
Bodie, so are you saying that Kobe is a more prolific scorer than LBJ? No sh–.LeBron has a very different skillset than Kobe. Kobe is a better scorer and jumpshooter, we can all agree on that. LeBron is pretty much a better everything else.
Russ, I believe that LeBron HAS to take jumpers when he’s being given too much room to keep the defense honest. If he doesn’t, there won’t be any lanes for him to exploit. He’s not a good jumpshooter, but no NBA coach would leave him completely wide open either. He’s capable of hitting 5-6 threes in a game when he’s feeling it. LeBron is streaky with his jumper, you guys make it seem like his J is never on.

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 1:01 pm
    And just for fun:
    29-8-7, 2 steals, 1 block, .49 fg
    28-6-5, 1 steal, .47 fg
You know what that tells me? They’re both effing good at basketball.

  • jbn74sb Posted: Feb.5 at 2:15 pm
Kobe was just sharing the ball by letting his teammates get rebounds, as opposed to ball hog LeBron, shoving his teammates out of the way. Selfish pr-ck.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:27 pm
I always liked lovable losers like Bodie. They sit at home…DVR Bromance….check their forheaeds in the mirror several times a night to see how many centimeters the hairlines receeded…fantasize about stepping on a court in La Holla, hoping to run into someone with less of a skill set than he has and then turns in for the night wandering aimlessly, hoping that Sportscenter plays a Kobe highlight reel to placate his jealousy of the New King and how his hero is stuck somewhere in the back of the BestPlayerMobile.

  • jbn74sb Posted: Feb.5 at 2:28 pm
    La Jolla. Learn spanish, guido.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:28 pm
Actually, Lebron needs to check that hairline too.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:29 pm
Glad you were waiting on me.

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Feb.5 at 2:32 pm
They both are garbage. Chris Paul is the most productive player.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:33 pm
I’m wondering if I should pull an Eminem-like 8 Mile response to whatever it is your little fingers are going to type. “I DID have a Bon Jovi mullet….I DID wear my Jordan jersey to bed every night….I DO have a Dwyane Wade blow up do…..woops!!”

  • jbn74sb Posted: Feb.5 at 2:34 pm
My team won last night, Bon Jovi. Yours? Or have you switched once again, as is your m.o.?

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:37 pm
Naw man……I don’t cry when my best player is downtalked a little…..I got a 4 year old who does that sh*t when his toys aren’t where he left them.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:40 pm
Oh, but wait…..your favorite player has a history of public tearshedding, so that’s commonplace for his fanbase too, yes?

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:41 pm
Oh….and tell your boy to get a rebound.

  • jbn74sb Posted: Feb.5 at 2:41 pm
Wait - I just heard a whistle. The wind blew and Wade fell down. Get the man a wheelchair stat!

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 2:45 pm
I’d like to point out that kobe bryant is the only player in the history of professional sports in north america to publicly demand a trade AND win the mvp award IN THE SAME SEASON. if that’s not awesome, then i don’t know what awesome means.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:47 pm
Go back to watching Bromance kid…..you’re a little rusty right now.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 2:49 pm
Go back to watching Bromance kid…..you’re a little rusty right now. Oops, there goes a rebound.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 3:03 pm
“Kobe was just sharing the ball by letting his teammates get rebounds”, thats up there with the dumbest sh(t i’ve read..Ever…Unless it was sarcasm,in that case its pretty crafty..

  • TADOne Posted: Feb.5 at 3:12 pm
I see we have some quick-witted people today…

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 3:20 pm
    “Get a rebound”
    That’s funny.
    Really.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 4:09 pm
    Ok, here’s a question.
Is Kobe the most SKILLED basketball player to play the game?
Not the best, the most skilled. Has anybody in the game every duplicated his complete offensive and defensive skill set? Is there a single basketball related skill that Kobe has not mastered?
I’m serious with this question. I think you have to really understand basketball to appreciate exactly how complete Kobe’s game is, and to marvel at the amount of time he had to have spent making it that way.
    Anybody up for this discussion?

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 4:18 pm
Well, allenp, I’d argue that there is not one thing that Kobe does that MJ could not do. His crossover has more flair than MJ but could you really take the pill from MJ? I think MJ’s footwork on the block was more refined as well. Kobe DOES have more moves to attack his man. But you know who else has tons of moves (more than Kobe, IMO) even though he’s not as good? PP. PP has like the complete arsenal to attack someone ISO. It really seems that his whole summer training regime is basically playing one on one.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 4:21 pm
Allen is so wrong for his comment…it’s damning.

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 4:22 pm
So to answer your question : there’s nothing Kobe Bryant can’t do on a basketball court. Like Mike. I like how you nuanced though. Being able to do everything well doesn’t mean that you are the best. It doesn’t hurt one’s case though either.

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 4:28 pm
That got me thinking. Basketball is prolly the sport where HOW you do things matter the most to fans. (eg. Shaq in his LA days. How many times did I hear ‘yeah whatever, he’s just bigger than everybody else’. LeBron, now. ‘yeah whatever, he’s stronger than all the wings, he just powers his way to the hoop and he can’t shoot’) Does it matter HOW a 50-goal scorer in hockey get his? Do strikers get criticize in soccer because they only score from close range and have to be set up? Does it matter in football if your running back is a Jerome Bettis north south or a Reggie Bush east west type? No, you just want him to take it to the house! Why is HOW you do things so important in basketball?

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 4:29 pm
Most offensively skilled..Yeah maybe..But there have been (and are) players who see the court better, get into rebounding position better and more often, defend better (on the block and perimeter), generally have a more rounded, complete game…

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 4:33 pm
Mike was pretty bad at three-point shooting Z. I think he shot around 25 percent for his career. And, I rarely say Mike execute the sort of left to right crossover that is a staple of most young people’s game.
But, my main point wasn’t to break down MJ vs. Kobe, but to point out that there is not one single aspect of basketball where Kobe is not at a master level. He might not be the best at EVERY single thing, but he’s still a master.
    Eboy
Explain why my question is so bad?
    Z again
Nobody likes a one trick pony. Sure, a chick who is awesome and blowing on the mike can make you achieve that happy feeling, but would you really be awestruck by her if that was the ONLY way she could get you that happy feeling? If she couldn’t throw a little missionary and cowgirl in there, would you be as enamored with her.
Basically, the outcome is important, but that doesn’t make it more important then the way you reach that outcome.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 4:36 pm
    Jaymes
My point wasn’t that Kobe was THE BEST. It was that I think he has the BEST COLLECTION of skills.
The girl with the best body might not have all the best individual aspects. But, her collection is still impressive.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 4:42 pm
Yeah ok, i’d go so far as to say he does have the best collection of skills..But IMO a player like Scottie Pippen (in his prime) wouldn’t have a great deal of trouble defending him (as opposed to LBJ for eg.)..If his offensive game isn’t in step, i’m not backing his passing and defensive game to get my team home..

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 4:46 pm
I use Scottie as an eg. ’cause i think he’s the most complete defender i’ve seen..Lebron would give Pippen more headaches with his combination of size speed and agility than Kobe would..IMO

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 4:46 pm
I’d argue that the outcome is far more important than the method. But that might be a little too macchiavelist.
MJ is a career .32 shooter from deep, Kobe is at .34, James is at .32. That’s pretty much a wash, no?

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 4:50 pm
Absolutely Z, Kobe is more likely than the other 2 to knock down 10 trey’s in a game, but he’s also more likely to attempt 10-15 than the other 2…

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 4:53 pm
This past week gives you the impression that if Kobe wanted to be a hog and not be overly concerned with results he could average 50 points, and if LBJ was the same he could probably average a triple double..

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 4:57 pm
    Z
My gut tells me that Kobe is a better three point shooter than Jordan and Lebron. And, since I’m reading “Blink” right now, I trust my gut.
Also, in looking at the stats, I see a steady improvement from Kobe in percentage despite a steady increase in attempts. I don’t know. I think Kobe is clearly better.

  • Z Posted: Feb.5 at 4:59 pm
Kobe is not that great of a passer if you want to be picky. He dumps it to bigs at the rim when he’s on the move but he rarely creates open j’s for his teammates like Wade and Bron do.
His rebounding is just average for a wing.
His D is somewhat overrated. He thinks he can cover little dudes on the perimeter. I mean, people do get by Kob. Even in the Olympics, he was applauded for covering guys from the half court line but dudes were still getting past him.
He’s not much of a shot blocker. Even by wing standards.
His post up game is average at best.
I mean, there are holes in his GAME. But if you are talking about his BALL SKILLS, then yeah he’s second to none.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 5:01 pm
You know what, I take back my comments about Jordan and threes. True, he never shot a whole bunch in a given year, but his BEST percentages game in years where he shot more, and his best percentages are far better than Kobe’s.
That is really interesting. I didn’t realize that. Maybe Mike has him beat on just the skills thing as well. Hmmm…

  • Jukai Posted: Feb.5 at 5:12 pm
Didn’t Jordan average 50% from the three one year, or something close to that?
Also, co-sign every single thing Z just said. Kobe’s passing is simply not very good.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.5 at 5:15 pm
I remember when Kobe played the facillitator role for LA and his passing was very good.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 5:18 pm
I think his passing game is good..his court vision in all aspects, is probably not at some other players level though

  • [...] I hear this guy has what the playground kids call game and hops. Maybe even skillz and/or steez. I dunno. I don’t really get these yutes today with all their saggy pants and roller skates. (Video via Slam) [...]

  • Big J Posted: Feb.5 at 6:08 pm
MJ had the best post up game for a 2 guard ive ever seen which Kobe is just average at and Mj shot a higher percentage pretty much every year then Kobe excluding 3 point% in a league where handchecking was legal

  • kadavour Posted: Feb.5 at 6:08 pm
whoa fellas, Kobe has THE BEST post up game of ANY Wing in the game. Have you seen this man’s footwork? It’s ok to shut up when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 6:15 pm
Who said he wasn’t the best post up wing player?

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 6:39 pm
    This is highly amusing.

  • Eboy Posted: Feb.5 at 6:40 pm
I’d stick around…but I got ribs on the grill and it’s getting colder out by the half hour….so I need to get my pork game on. Yes..it’s 45 right now…that’s like the Artic tundra in Florida.

  • jaymes Posted: Feb.5 at 6:42 pm
45 degrees celsius over here…enjoy the cold!

  • jbn74sb Posted: Feb.5 at 6:56 pm
45 degrees!?!?! Get back inside eboy. You’re gonna get frostbite.

  • Jukai Posted: Feb.5 at 7:01 pm
If it was 45 degrees here, I’d be out in shorts and a tee-shirt. Damnit Eboy.

  • MalevolentKing7242 Posted: Feb.5 at 8:53 pm
The King is better stat wise but still kobe put on a more exicting show…

  • Dutch Rich Posted: Feb.5 at 10:53 pm
Did anybody see the new Rik Smits Footwork Fundamental DVD series?

  • Mack Posted: Feb.6 at 5:27 am
Man that is an ugly jumpshot.
