Video: Michael Finley Gets Away With One

by Marcel Mutoni

According to League rules, referees can’t review a play when shot clock violations are in question. Because, you know, that’d make far too much sense.

Michael Finley and the Spurs took full advantage of this last night in Sacramento, as they narrowly escaped with a three-point win:

Even Coach Pop knows his team got away with one there: “Spurs coach Gregg Popovich did look at the replay after the game. He admitted the shot should not have counted. ‘It looked like the ball was still in his hands,’ Popovich said.”

… If this screws up the seedings for the playoffs I’ll be mighty irritated.
I guess this is a rule that the League needs to look into somehow/time during the offseason.

  • nate the great

    wow. thats lame.

  • Randy Brown

Although their record doesn’t show it, the Spurs have had a lot of lucky breaks (no Manu pun) at the end of games this season

The league still caters to the Spurs. Sad.

Poor Jukai. Some wounds never heal,do they?

  • Jess

they shouldnt of even needed a replay…clearly a shot clock violation.

The league doesn’t cater to the Spurs. Do you already forgot that during last year’s conference finals the refs didn’t call a foul on Fisher for fouling a Spurs player attempting to win the game at the buzzer? It was just an AWFUL call that could have happened to any other team. And it has more to do with the fact refs are blind.

I also think it’s ridiculous that refs aren’t allowed to review plays like this one when the shot clock expires. Just think what would’ve happened if it was a playoffs game. I want this rule changed before the playoffs start.

There would have been a huge fuss if this were against Houston or Denver. Sacramento? Clearly they didn’t care that much at this point.

    Izzo: No, they don’t.

anonymous: Take off your Spurs glasses please. On the play BEFORE that, with a few seconds left, the ball bounced off Duncan’s foot and it was given to the Spurs instead of the Lakers. The no-call on Fisher was actually a MAKE-UP call for screwing over the Lakers like that.
Stern even MENTIONED that when he was explaining why he wasn’t doing anything with the no-call.

The refs review plays to see if the player was behind the arc or not, and they can review plays at the end of quarters. Stupid stupid stupid.

i like that at the end of the video robert horry is showing us his 7 ring fingers

This is an issue because it does impact the seeding. If the Spurs had lost, they would have slipped to 5th place, no homecourt. The NBA should consider using replay whenever a single shot decides the game.

  • FL1P

last night they took away a 3pointer away from j-kidd 4 plays after the shot, when they determined that he stood on the line. at the end of a quarter!! and they can’t review this??crazy

at least it didn’t happen in the playoffs this time.

  • Josh D(Spurs Fan)

    1.I love the rules
2.I’m a spurs fan and even i know that shouldn’t of counted, but hey, i ‘m not complaining

  • Tim Dennis

I was really hoping they would lose that game so they could drop to 6th and not play the blazers

Did that clinch the Kings having the worst record in the league? Maybe it’ll result in them winning the lottery?

  • Sarah

I’m a Spurs fan but this really bugs me. What a DUMB rule.

    Jukai = drama queen

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

and, Juk’s I’d like to see a link to where Stern admitted that the blown call against Fisher was cool, because of a previous (supposed, I don’t remember it exactly like that) missed call. Suffice to say, I think you’re full of sh1t.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

But, yeah, the ball was still in Finley’s hand. Thats a terible rule, did the buzzer not go off for the shot clock?

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

33 sec mark…yeah but Finley is likable enough for me to give it to him.

It will be interesting to see the Spurs in a few years once TD retires, Manu might as well if he remains injured…. I dont see this team being too dominant for a while….

Just like that lucky bounce Barry got in the 1st round against Kings a few years back
